It's used well over a 100 times throughout The Bible to refer to a disfiguration or a imperfection. There is no other time in The Bible that the Hebrew word for oath is used to describe an imperfection anywhere else in The Bible. This is an indication that that particular passage was not translated properly.

Regarding sacrifice, if God is indeed the Creator of all things, as we believe that he is, then all of creation is rightfully his. He has the right two any or all of it, any time that he wants. Sacrifice was way of worship that would be sacrificial/costly to the worshipper. The Old Testament sacrifices also pre-figured the sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins. Sin is so serious, that blood must be shed to receive a pardon for it. The blood of bulls and goats were the best that man could do in the Old Testament, and God received that, but the blood of Jesus forever takes away one's sins. Regarding Cain... God is God, and he saw that the punishment given to Cain was correct and appropriate. Man can never get judgment perfectly correct, but God always does, and so we must trust in the sovereign wisdom of God in regard to the punishment that he gave to Cain. I hope that this helps. There can't be a "lack of answer" if nobody knows. He only points out it is never explicitly stated and can only be speculated. Nobody is giving him back pats, he's trying to do the basic courtesy of directing people away from making racist associations they can use to justify discrimination against black people. If you think at all that the Bible wants you to envision God making Cain African, I worry about what else you're misapprehending from the text. How would this even serve the mark's intended purpose of letting people know they shouldn't kill him?
