That little grey plastic lid you picked up was the Private Wire connecting the WB 1400/1800 early warning system. Those R.O.C. posts could be made to be very cosy indeed.

It's such a shame they after vandalise part of our history. I taken a couple of friends to see the one near me yesterday and kids had set fire to it.

During summer/autumn 1990, my Darling Mary and I resided with our two daughters in an 'immobile mobile home' at Blenkinsopp Castle (a few miles east of Gilsland.) Our youngest daughter had a friend who lived at Gilsland. We occasionally drove our daughter there to visit her friend. Although I was very interested in history (including nearby Hadrian's Wall and its associated forts - Birdoswald and Vindolanda, for example), I was completely ignorant of the ROC posts. Never seen a shelf in the toilet. I done 3 in one day. 2018. one last year. September or so. 4. Had one with carpet. This one not much left. I had lights, wiring. all sorts, one burnt out. darlings set alight a concrete box. prats. Culham. didcot power station chimney lights in view, dark by time we got out. there as a clue, power station lights in my video. All pinned on a web site. Done the ones by me. no more to do.

i would be carrying padlocks with me and any good ones i would lock them, not likely to get complaints, only people going there would be people interested or idiots, i never will understand the thinking in smashing stuff up.
