For this week:
1. Students observed dry ice (solid CO2) go through phase changes (solid to liquid--sublimation). A piece of dry ice was placed into a balloon. The balloon inflated as a result. Students had to draw a model of how the molecules of CO2 were arranged before and after the balloon was inflated. Students then observed what happens when powdered dry ice was placed into a pipette and that pipette was sealed and placed under water.
2. Students did Phase Change Lesson 2.1: Causing Freedom of Movement Changes (slide deck). For the lesson students completed activities 2.1 Warm-Up, 2.2 Recreating Weird Water Events in the Sim, and 2.3 Modeling Weird Water Events.
3. Students did Phase Change Lesson 2.2 Understanding Energy Transfers (slide deck). For the lesson students completed activities 2.2.1 Warm-Up, 2.2.2 Experimenting with Magnetic Marbles, 2.2.3 Using the Sim to Observe Energy Transfer, 2.2.4 Explaining Zooming in on Phase Change, and 2.2.5 Homework.
4. Students did Phase Change Lesson 2.3 Evaluating Evidence and Claims (slide deck). For the lesson students completed activities 2.3.1 Warm-Up, 2.3.2 Interpreting Evidence About Phase Change (card sort), 2.3.3 Reasoning About Phase Change on Titan, and 2.3.4 Writing a Scientific Argument graded.
5. Students copied down notes for the Phase Change Unit Guide on page 24 and 25 of the Reference notebook.
6. At the beginning of each lesson students reviewed questions from the previous lesson (Phase Change Review).
