The Immortal Iron Fist by Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker & David Aja was a revolution when it released in 2006. The story of Danny Rand going against the Immortal Weapons and then fighting for Kun Lun has its high points, but with the sudden departure of its creators, and being taken over by Duane Swierczynski and Travel Foreman... how did this series fall so far?
With the Omnibus being reprinted and expanded to include the second half, I wanted to revisit the series... but do I regret it?

Glad I kept my Original Omnibus after hearing your thoughts on the additional stuff. I already thought the Fraction bits took away from or repeated the Brubaker bits so to hear there is even more rehashing but uninspired and with bad art. Yeah no thanks. I was hoping for a fun team up of some sort, exploring all the different Weapons more.

I didn't get chance to read The Immortal Weapons separate series, so maybe that alone is worth the upgrade, but yeah you've dodged a massive bullet not reading issues 17 onwards haha. Hope you're doing well mate!

Outside of the classic Iron Fist era this is one run that piqued my interest straight away.. So definitely happy you reviewed it on the channel. I did not expect it to get such a mixed reception though. Still when it gets a modern epic It'll be one of those times I'll probably still pick up the run just for the artwork and the first half alone😄😋 Loving the longer reviews by the way.👍

The first 16 issues are definitely worth a read! But I think the complete collection is stupid out of print now haha! Yeah, I didn't think I'd be so mixed on this either, I guess that's the fun of doing these reviews and questioning why I enjoy or don't enjoy it :) Glad you like the longer reviews too! Should have some more coming up soon! :)

I'm not a huge fan of Matt Fraction as a writer but I am a fan of Ed Brubaker. This is one of those titles where I'm skeptical to pick up and read it. However after hearing your thoughts on both good and bad I might give it a shot.

After this I really want to read the omnibus :-D especially the second part that I haven't read before :-) The "horrible" art is certainly not perfect but from what you've shown it wouldn't go into my worst 10 let alone be the worst :-) but art's really subjective so I understand you're irked by a certain style more than others. Thanks for an interesting video :-)

Uuuuf i respect where’s your coming from but 50 seeems way to low and I get it quality dipped hard but as a overall package I would still give this closer to like a 65 percent maybe a 70 percent cause the first half is that good

If I'm honest the percentage is mostly just to conclude the video, and I was so conflicted that I had to specify what I'd give the two halves. 80 seemed fair for the first part, especially with it's rushed wrap up. But everyone is different, I've been trying think of a more fun rating system for a while but haven't landed on anything yet. Thanks for watching, David

So I should actually try to get the first printing? The only good thing about reprint, is that it is cheaper than the out of print first print I guess.

Admittedly I'd recommend getting whatever is cheaper haha, and you may enjoy the second half, I just honestly didn't. But if you do get round to reading it, I hope you enjoy it!

@@MaddoggComics I actually ended up buying the reprint and then got a copy of first print for same price. I know I got issues lol. Almost done reading the whole run, second half wasn't THAT bad lol. Wasn't great but not awful. Art for second half was a big dip though....

I really enjoyed the first trades a few years ago so am looking forward to reading this Omni. Sad to hear the second half isn't as good but hopefully it's more 50 for me for that part rather than 30!

Thank you mate, and yeah, it's just my personal preference, I don't think anything can be 100/100 and I hate watching a review to hear that score because there's no point even elaborating if it's perfect haha. Ahh damn, I really liked the first part of Outcast, and I'm glad you had a better experience with it overall :) Maybe one day I'll give it another go haha. Thanks for watching mate :)

@@MaddoggComics That's my thoughts too. Perfect scores aren't for just liking the book. Perfect scores almost shouldn't exist really. I keep track of everything I've read and give it a grade out of 10. Most stuff I read that I enjoyed I would call a 6 or a 7. It has to really blow my mind to crack into an 8 or higher. I don't think I've ever given a book a 10. BWS Monsters was a 9 for me and is the highest rated book I have. (Upgrade Soul a close second) You don't gotta like Outcast. I agree it kinda fell down at the end a bit. OverallI still enjoyed it. That was a 6.5 for me. I enjoyed the read though. Kirkman doesn't seem to really know how to end a series though.

Thanks man, and yeah, a lot of people don't seem to like the rating but when over a third of a book is straight up bad, I just can't go much higher haha. I've been trying think of a more fun ratings system for a while, but can't seem to find one I really like, but watch this space! :) Thanks for watching mate! :)

I’ve already bought this and had seen some decent reviews if it. Never read any of the original material so was quite looking forward to it. Now it’s sinking down the reading pile with a few other “buy now regret after seeing review” items.

The first half is still worth the omnibus alone, so don't worry :) who knows, maybe you'll find the charm in the second half and I just overlooked it, let me know what you think when you've read it :)

Back when I was reading the badly translated German versions of comics, I gave this run a try and... It was far from my taste. Mostly because it had the usual Brubaker Marvel problem of being as corny as a shipping container full of grain bars! HA! 😂And not in the cool and fun way, like in Fractions own Hawkeye run, or the best Deadpool books. I might get the real version one day, but that's far from likely.

I have the first trade, the first arc was pretty good and I really liked Orson but the tournament lost me, it was just not interesting anymore, especially with those wack ass fights.
