My thoughts on the potential addition of a 6th weapon type to Genshin Impact, looking at popular community choices and evaluating how well they would fit into the current game.

I predict Gaunlets. We learned from an event that Natlan has shadow boxing Techniques. This means they very likely have punching based characters and therefore possible gaunlet users in the future. Edit: Yes People I am aware of Melee Catalyst being Added. But it does open doors for alternative uses of Catalyst. Like...a Gun.

First things that came to my mind while reading the title: Gauntlets, Hammers and chains. 2 out 3 but i gotta say that hammers could be mixed up with claymores, like the scythe and polearms.

Considering scythes rely more on slashing rather then striking, i think it’s better it would be two handed weapons/claymores, similar to large battle axes. Chains would be intetesting

The clear differences the hammers and Claymores are very evident, claymore weapons make horizontal slashes as their typical attacks with maybe a vertical slam at the end, hammers would be full vertical slams and some vertical strikes for variety, and their charged attack would be a constant slamming against the ground (like claymores) like in Monster Hunter. Well Monster Hunter weapons could also be nice in Genshin due to how interesting they are, like imagine having a gun lance with Xiao, that is definitly a cool idea

They could EASILY make characters who use Catalysts fight with martial arts. I've submitted ideas for 5 different characters that do this. Hopefully, if nothing else, it makes them realize it's an option.

Whoa! The game actually found a way to introduce bare fisted/gauntlet type movesets without needing to create a new weapon category. I'm excited for Heizou now.

I don’t think characters utilizing kicks along with their fists is as big of an issue as you said it would be. You can keep the weapons as fists only while allowing their model to throw in some kicks as hits. Honkai already does it with Fu Hua involving some kicks in her rapid strikes, whilst still only having gauntlets as their equip-able weapon. Fists would easily be the likeliest candidate to me due to the large amount of real life counterparts to reference, and a potentially unique charged attack mechanic similar to Carole’s in Honkai.

I'd love to see a catalyst character who fights using breakdancing or bboying moves. Think of Mercury Black from RWBY or Eddie from Tekken. All of the catalyst characters we currently have shoot magical projectiles from their palms but it would be interesting to have a character shooting magical projectiles from their legs too

5:08 but Itto's third normal atk is a kick and even with his burst buff, the animation doesn't change and he does a kick with geo dmg, the same could be done with fist weapons

All the attacks you’ve listed (except for the first comment, you’re correct) aren’t the character directly, it’s the elemental damage. The characters body just directs it.

Love that catalysts will cover hand to hand styles, it really does fix the issues addressed by a whole new gauntlet weapon class

I think the way they made make catalyst user fight with fist is brilliant, I really can’t imagine a male character dancing around with bubbly movement 😂

5:06, as an Itto main, in the third one of his four basic attacks he sticks his claymore in the ground and uses it as a support to fling his legs and kick the opponent. His leg even has the trail that weapons leave behind when swinging.

Out of all of these choices, I think gauntlets have the highest chance of becoming a weapon type. But not small, glove-like, gauntlets. I think they would be huge and clunky like Vi from League of Legends

@@Strykerx31 i meant in terms of designing movement, like it will hard to make the character use kicks bcs they will look riducolous. Claymores have this issue to, and makes very illogical atack patterns. Like why even is razor using his claymore, when he can't even properly lift it (4th atack in his pattern)

If you still remember Teyvat Chapter Storyline, Iansan, Natlan's featured character, is wearing some kind of gauntlet. So gauntlet will some sooner or later. EDIT: She doesn't wear any gloves or sorts, but her fisting pose would suggest such, hope it's true.

Heizou's release has pretty much confirmed my long time theory that there won't be new weapon types. Catalysts are the perfect way to make any kind weapon animations that aren't currently in the game without having to rework old systems. Whips, guns, charkram, hand to hand would all be easily implemented as the style of attacks from a catalyst. We've already seen at least one hammer in game (debate club). Axes could also just be lumped in with claymores if they decided to add some. There is little to no reason to actually add a new weapon type.

yeah, this is basically what i think too. character attacks and abilities are so diverse that i really don’t see the point of adding another weapon type. if you want a dual wielder, roll for childe; if you want a hand-to-hand fighter, roll for heizou; etc.

I would love to see 2 sword users. It'll be faster than 1 sword, versatile and easy to fit the genshin aesthetics. Daggers would also be nice. It is the closest to hand to hand combat, but also can be thrown :)

Speaking of Honkai, they’re literally adding a Chakram character next update which I think is interesting because not only is it a weapon type that would fit Sumeru, but the character themselves looks a lot like a character that would appear in Sumeru, almost more like a Genshin character than a Honkai character. For anyone curious, her name is Pardofelis and people are already calling her adult Diona because of her cat thematic lol.

I don't play Honkai, but i looked it up, and two of the chakrams have "Purana" in their names, and the title of the chapter involving Sumeru is called "Truth Amongst The Pages of Purana". There's hope for chakrams!

With the weaponswaps from other characters this would be a more reasonable assumption on how to get new weapons into the game. Same with a scythe blade being added to a pole arm.

I’ve always thought an actual shield weapon would be cool, though shields are considered a role, not a weapon. Most users are simple supports, with even a set that utilises distributing the shield users Def/Hp to others/converting it for others, like other supports in game can do. They would hit weak, but if you hold a shield, you could block weak attacks and projectiles/take less damage from lethal attacks, or DPS made users (characters like Noufumi in shield hero is an example of a heavy damage dealer) wouldn’t be able to take lethal hits like support based, and probably not make a shield like other units, but could focus on rush attacks. Tho they wouldn’t come too often, DPS shield users, as the rest focus on shield, absorbing, healing, application, converting or sharing % of stats, etc.

I just want a fistfight character. Just for the personality. Imagine itto throwing hands. Functionality wise, probably heavy hitting like the claymore, a bit fast, but much smaller range. I dunno, I'd just wanna see it for funsies Edit: I should stop commenting before watching videos lmao, yes this was akin to the gauntlet suggestion. Maybe if the shoes would be too complicated, the character would be purely a boxer?

honestly, his argument for them needing shoes is pretty weak imo. so many games have martial artist/monk style classes that use kicks but don't have shoes in order to do them. look at world of warcraft monk or ffxiv monk.

Chain whips sound surprisingly possible and refreshing, I think the biggest problem is actually "brand recognition", like if you say chain or whip, is super niche, is better to just use the term "rope". since is more broad. As for gauntlets, gameplay wise I don't think kicks matter that much, since that sounds like moves for specific character animations (like Zhongli or Itto), there is also some build up with some name drops here and there, also the fact of opening tons of collab units since there are lots and lots of characters that straight up don't use weapons, also makes the heavy attack niche more broad, since you can only use overload, geo or claymores for that, things that aren't very flexible or common to use. Though, visuals are pretty inflexible for that weapon type.

I like the idea of axes having melee normal attacks and a ranged charged attack. Not only does it remind me of God of War 4, it allows for the weapon itself to take on different shapes like a throwing hammer, a boomerang, a throwing dagger, a kama sickle, or just a normal tomahawk.

I think it's gonna be the Kusarigama (a chain with a sickle on one end and heavy weight on another), with this, Mihoyo can introduce a new hybrid weapon type (kinda like Childe). You can hit the enemies from mid-range (further than sword but shorter than bow) with the weight and hook enemies towards you when doing charge attack with the sickle. At close range, you will hit with the sickle. Imagine how sick(le) it would be!

I think there's no point to adding a new weapon type, since it's not something Genshin Impact needs. Like, at all. The game is lacking on so many things and a new weapon type isn't one of them. The current 5-type system is already balanced and it covers pretty much everything. Adding a new weapon type would just make things more complicated. New animations, balacing the characters, new artifacts, making new characters, making these new characters synergize with the already existing ones, possibly having to come up with a 6th slot for the artifacts needed to build a character, which means spending more time and resin to grind these artifacts... Let's not forget all of this would make the life of newcoming players even more difficult. And what could possibly be the benefits to adding a new weapon type, besides pushing banners sales because of the novelty? Which, mind you, would have to be a game-changing novelty to keep players interested and to compensate all the troubles. Let's not forget what happened to poor Aloy: they rushed the character making her mechanics clumsy and didn't even bother adding constellations. As a result, barely anyone plays with Aloy today.

Long axes and scythes can just be added into the polearm categories. They're similar enough in shape and usage.

He did explain the issue with making a scythe just another polearm, the stabbing motions wouldn't make sense for most scythes.

that's just boring, why not have new weapon types with new charged attacks even if they're niche, this video is interesting but i can't say i like the passion-less approach to adding a new weapon type in a video game, it doesn't have be some sort of revolutionary addition to the game, make it look cool and be viable and that's it, why hold back in a PvE game? there's so many options, sword and shields, big axes, sword and daggers, i can think of ten more but you get the point, literally any new weapon type would be an overrall good addition to the game since it would mean variety, which is what the game needs the most right now since its getting stale

for the gauntlets… a type of putting them away could be smashing them together, or stomping on the ground. these are actually a lot more easy to deal with then you put them to be, as having a character land while punching the ground (making some kind of element do something with the ground around them) could be a good way to plunge. In fighting terms, it would be a unpopular option in terms of usefulness- yet that doesn’t matter to some, the cool look with gain it popularity. You can only focus on one target at a time, which harms its mobility. Overall, I like this choice.

I think there’ll be more characters w/ weapon stance changing abilities like Childe and Raiden so maybe there could be a “gauntlet” catalyst user eventually

Chain whip really does fit the game! While watching this, I quickly remembered about my original character and thinking of having a collaboration with genshin (lmao), anyway, I think, chain whip will be like the changing weapon mechanics just like shogun and itto, for example, when a polearm character uses their burst, it will turn into something like chain whip....that's what I think...but having it as a new weapon type will be really great!

The new 4* char Heizou actually could wield gauntlets. His attacks are punches and kicks, only they deal elemental dmg. So I think if they wanted to make gauntlets, either this is the first step towards it, or they would just make ppl using martial arts catalyst users and have them punch electricity or smth.

Honestly, dual wielding swords is something I always like in games. I feel like the difference you could make between dual wield and one handed is attack speed and damage. Each individual attack is weaker, but you hit twice as fast. It is interesting how you talk about how Genshin’s more realistic and grounded sorta prevents more flashy stuff like other games. I think FGO is one example for me. Despite a servant being put into a certain class, they many times are distinct enough from each other with some wilder concepts. Such as swords for arrows, fire weapons out of a portal, or just tossing random shit at the enemy.

I believe for dual wield, Mihoyo will continue to make Childe like character where Childe does duel wield sword and gets faster by changing his weapon using his skill. Childe doesn't hit that hard but which is why he's good for reactions

@@Punniz Yeah, I can imagine a character that uses a normal sword as their weapon, but they create another blade that adds elemental damage to their attacks. Could change the attack pattern a lot too, such as a kendo-like stance for 1 sword vs a very circular, dancey style while dual wielding.

i could see hoyoverse adding a character that just copies and dual wields whatever sword you give them instead. think darkbolt jonin from honkai, who dual wields in her animations-but her weapon type, blade, is just one weapon in-game and is mono-wielded by other battlesuits.

Here is a trick for duel welding sword characters. Equipment weapon with their left hand, a family treasure or cursed sword (muramasa) on their right hand. Tapping elemental skill is like the character's auto attacks, with 4 or 5 attack strings. Kind of like Diluc's skill only without the cooldown. You can mix and match different basic attacks and ending with skill taps or vice versa for combinations to end with different attacks (jumping upward slash/thrust/360 spins). Holding down Elemental skill, the character does a cool flippy flop sword spin imbues with their Element and initiate cooldown. As for Elemental Burst, I don't know let me hear your thoughs. Also how about a character with a passive that can perform a dash attack after dashing, or plunge attack from any height but consume stamina.... 😏

Gosh, I know it comes with complications, but I’ve fallen in love with the idea of gauntlets and the inclusion of hand to hand combat. I had always preferred claymores over swords and polearms because even though it’s slow, it hits heavy. With the gauntlet, though it’s range is short, I imagine it having rather quick and strong attacks, and with skills that infuse or deal elemental damage, I would 100% welcome gauntlets to the game. Also, though it’s not a claymore at all, would a big war hammer fit the claymore’s animations?

I don't think Hammer would fit, even if the character had the right animations (like the spin2win charged attack instead of the slash2kill) and since basic attacks are somewhat customized for each character even if they could add a specific fighting style to some characters that makes hammer look really good, the other claymore users that could also use that hammer would look foolish doing so xD The only reason catalyst has 2 forms (so far) it's because it just floats there generally and does nothing so it could be anything really. A chair, maybe, could act like a catalyst.

Guns or Muskets would fit in a hybrid Melee and Ranged Weapon style, mainly in you can just give Bayonet to a Musket and have Normal Attacks being Melee Attacks but able to do an aimed shot. However Aimed Shots from Guns would be different for Bows, like for starters it travels faster and doesn't arc too much, and characters can only shoot when the gun is fully charged or similar to bow's elemental aimed shot. Basically look at Samurai Warrior franchise character Magoichi Saika.

there is a good game example with melee muskets, it's code vein(anime'ish souls-like) in melee muskets hit like swords and quick polearm, but damage is lower, in exchange they better at energy generation for magick system and they could use "mana" to shoot strong magick projectile.

Having Guns in the game will just feel so goddamn out of place. Just, the idea of a character just pulling out a fucking glock and shooting a man is so utterly ridiculous, I can not take it seriously. Just my opinion though.

@@pozzsicle Guns are already in the game with the Fatui Pyro slingers using rifles. Plus there are many different kinds of firearms throughout history that could fit the style of the game. Guns have been around for centuries, so there's no shortage of options. You can have musket style of the 16th century or lever action rifles like the ones the fatui already use. Modern guns will obviously be out of the question, but if you take a nation like Fontaine which has 18th century Europe written all over it and give it weapons from that time period, you can have some pretty interesting characters, playstyles, and mechanics.

The possibility of roping enemies in (or chaining yourself to them) with chain whips sounds like it could be a great solution to the problem I, (and many others) have with teleporting enemies; they also just sound dope as hell, especially with how flashy they could be.

I think that the rope/chain weapon idea is awesome and I would love to see it in game, as there would be a lot of ways to make characters have unique animations for them and being able to move enemies around would also be cool. It would also mean that we have more crowd control options if we could use ropes/chains to move enemies

too slow. Knowing the legendary ability of Lazyhoyo to botch things up, a crossbow would have worse physic than the cleymores. This aside, pay attention> by the time the churls or the hoarders load their crossbows you have time to do half rotation of your whole team. Unpractical, especially in a game that gives you like 20 seconds to kill a whole army. ;)

Another idea I had is a staff which acts basically as a claymore catalyst hybrid with elemental infused melee/short range attacks and a lot of aoe (like hitting the ground with it to produce a shockwave). It would just go on the back like polearms and their simplicity in design I think makes them VERY easy to make skins for due to them pretty much coming from fantasy entirely (not bo staffs, magic staffs). The only problem I can think of in terms of design is the fact that they'd probably need to make contact with the ground which makes animating difficult because genshin isn't flat like honkai is in terms of terrain

I always felt like the fatui soldiers were given the weapon types that were once considered for gameplay, but were ultimately cut. Guns, hammers, staffs, gauntlets and dual blades. They're all pretty good ideas but maybe they didn't have as much potential as the ones we did get.

I think shields could be a unique weapon addition to genshin. some creativity might be needed for the combat animations unless they wanted those characters to have a sword or something as well, but it would be very easy to differentiate from the other weapons, and wouldn’t have weird character interactions like gauntlets, or be too flashy like scythes or whips. it could even be neat to have a unique charged attack where they block with the shield instead of a normal charged attack.

Sadly a shield as weapon is pointless since we have characters that can generate shields while still allowing combat. A parry or counter with the shield is also pointless since characters like Beidou and Yunjin shows you dont need a shield to do that.

@@fegoracedia6080 diluc and keqing’s bursts can hit enemies from range, and yet bow and catalyst characters aren’t pointless because of it. all of those abilities that you mentioned are limited by skill cool downs, and are only on a small portion of characters, the value to a shield weapon type would be adding more flexibility and variety to the characters that can prevent/parry damage. (also, not sure if you misread my comment or if I’m misreading yours, but you could absolutely design shields in a way that would still allow the characters to attack with them.)

That is very interesting. Despite shields historically having 1 - 2, if you're generous - uses, plenty of games get innovative with that kind of thing and genshin could too A shield could combine standing still to block damage (scaling off Base ATK maybe?) with a charging capability, like the one in Hades. A shield could be thrown, like the one in Hades. There are a few ways that can be taken

@@theladoflads7884 its funny that you say that, i didn't mention it but i was actually inspired by hades for this idea! i was thinking the charged attack could be like the bull rush ability where you block and then rush forward with the charged energy once the charged attack is released. there's plenty of creative possibilities for using a shield as a weapon in something like genshin, since it isn't super realistic for most of its combat lol

I've seen a lot of innovative ways a shield is used outside for defence like how Shielder Mash from FGO mixing side swings,spins and charges to use the shield as a weapon ,an option turning the shield into a mid range weapon by removing it's handle but still connected by chains like from Beat the vandel buster, there's even the shield hero manga to show the shield take on different roles.I know these are likely what you had in mind. I know that the character skills are what makes the weapons go beyond imagination but we still need to consider keeping it grounded with basic rules when skills are down, like what category of shield if small shield,medium or even tower shields will be the main template for future characters,how the shields are handled based on character body type like the tall and medium body can handle a shield charge but how about the child bodies. I do want a new weapon type but they have to act different and not like just a pallet swap from other weapons

With the chain whip idea, I think it would be a pretty neat machanic if you could use it like normal, but also aim where's you want the blade/ball to go. Like you can group a bunch of enemies and then aim it and aim the weapon at said group.

Really love your idea about chainwhips and think that it would be really badass, but unfortunatly really niche have as a full on weapon type. My thoughts is that they can add something like you said "meele-range" where by tapping you just hit in front of you, but by holding attack you will throw weapon. (still can be easilly implemented with any melle weapon type as a character moveset) As for the guns, they are will be unique, cuz all ranged weapons right now have limitation of projectile speed, while guns would hit instant. And on hold they might have any type of unique mechanics, that might even be dependend on a weapon equiped by character (another unique feature) for example one weapon will charge shot and deal one target hard hit, another might start shooting fast weak shots, another might on hold leave a cloud of elemental damage, like fatui do.

We have some precedence for bombs (Klee, Aloy, that one section in Amber's story) so I feel like they'd be a good candidate for expansion. Also guns could be a happy medium between bows and catalysts: aimable projectiles that don't need charging.

@@birky0191 Well, you are right, but it wouldn't be the first case of this happening. Raiden canonically uses a sword but her, as a playable character uses a polearm. Also, and I may be wrong here, a character like Ninguang, that that has rocks are her weapon. Does she really uses a catalyst to fire to rocks or is the catalyst something the game added, as "rocks" aren't really a weapon?

on the argument of gauntlet and kick, while it is true that there is none char that kick the enemy but there is already many char that have kick animation, which mean they don't shy away from using kick so only thing they need to do is connect the kick into a hit. The main problem i'm worry about gauntlet is combo, gauntlet user is famous for having chain of combo, which is also one of the reason why they are a fan favorite, but mhy is making it very clear that they want the game to be casual friendly so adding something like combo might make it seem complicate for those really casual or new player as char with combo usually have learning curve. edit: a slight correction, Itto do kick his enemy so the redflaim problem about kick is not so valid anymore

One thing you could do with daggers is make them melee/ranged hybrid weapons if you also allow for characters to throw knives. In that case you could also design weapon/character abilities around that by combining different types of attacks

Even if new weapon types aren't added, it would be cool to see new movesets or variations implemented on existing ones. Honkai's Darkbolt Jonin and Flame Sakitama use the same weapon type, but one of them dual wields while the other single wields, and all that would be needed is to duplicate the weapon model for the second hand.

I personally feel it would be something from Honkai, Which would be Gauntlets, Scythe, or Lances. Gauntlets having the same U.I. Fu Hua has with punches and kicks letting us combo, Scythes being able to pull enemies towards us and keeping them always in our hit range, and lances might take the throw mechanic.

Honestly, I can see scythes as a new category, mainly because Honkai already makes that difference between Seele/Rita's scythes and Durandal's lance. While Seele does play more with teleportation, Rita's original battlesuits don't really do that and simply do quick strikes, although with a weapon that has the coverage of a claymore and the speed of a polearm might either lead to an unbalanced mess. Gauntlets are also a viable candidate due to the multiple styles they can do and how they already have experience with Fu Hua, also it's very likely that we'll see those in Natlan, considering the character's lack of weapon. The chained blade might be a bit trickier, mainly cuz game physics and its possible exploration exploits, and chakrams might offer unique styles, they could also just have characters dual wield swords and throw them at a target just like a chakram. If anything, I think an elemental staff could be another candidate, a ranged weapon like a catalyst by throwing and charging elemental attacks but the melee properties of a sword that unleashes quick waves or arcs to push enemies away. This is like full fantasy and their normal attacks might not be properly set, but it could bridge the gap between swords and catalysts

Funny thing is, i read the title and thought “Meteor hammer” (Basically a chain whip, but with a ball of metal on the end) Mostly due to yelan’s attack animation haveing similar qualities basically, her 4th or 5th auto attack, she kicks her bow straight out and yoinks it back by a “rope” if you look closer, the “rope” is around her right arm, while it’s her left that catches it

We actually have a model who uses an axe. The female treasure hoarder. She was used in one of the mini games in the fleeting colours in flight event. I don't know if she's appeared any other time but she does exist.

Here's some food for thought and rambling: Since the catalysts are considered a wild card, them have some melee catalysts too? Imagine an unarmed fighter have a catalyst float nearby, infusing their strikes with elemental power. I agree with the chain whip being a unique style, but the base 5 can be reimagined into plenty of other weapons. Catalysts open many new styles. Claymores are now the catch all for heavy weapons, with things like large greatswords, the debate club, and a fish. Scythe wanters will probably be satisfied if they made a one a claymore. There are so many more influences the main 5 can have. Tangent here also, where the hell are the 3 star Inazuma weapons?

Introducing a new weapon type to the game would also mean introducing a new class of characters who can wield it, so it isnt really that much added work from introducing new characters of the same weapon class since a lot of the attack animations are mostly character specific, unless otherwise. Besides, its in favor of both the company (more oportunities to rob whales of their money) and the player base (more new and fresh conteny, since its getting really boring lately)

Gauntlet is most likely to be the next weapon type. I still remember the Phantom Flow event in 2.0, the NPC told us some information about the boxing skills in Natlan, and Iansan in their main story PV also shows the possibility of martial arts combat in the future. Besides, I've envisaged some possible moves on gauntlet: Normal attack sets will perform combos up to 8 hits due to its limitation in attack range; Attack while sprinting could release a dash punching or kicking while rushing towards the opponent; Holding the attack button could release elemental energy blast towards the opponent at a distance; Falling attack could release ground smash and this move could break the orbs easily like claymore.

on the contrary, i think Gauntlets would be a fun addition. i don't even care about usability, and i know this video was made before Heizou was even leaked, but i've been playing with Heizou and i freakin' love his schtick. the martial arts visuals and loop of weaving in between attacks to build his declension bonus for his haymaker to deal huge damage (i've only got level 6 on his skill and i'm hitting for 20K on the anemo damage) and then releasing his massive soccerball kick is super, super fun. also, in regards to the point made about characters not making contact with the enemy with their body, Itto literally does a sideways kick for his 3rd attack in his normal combo. he also kicks his sword to give it more oomph, like Beidou does, but those are semantics. Gauntlets wouldn't even need to be specifically hand-shaped, they could go the way of Yang from RWBY with the sliding plates that just sort of envelop her knuckles, or a similar kind of deal with a bar-handle thing. gripes aside, some sort of whip comes to mind as a probable new addition, if any at all were to be implemented. it'd be super cool if they were to add a chain sword as a 5 star, but i feel like the visuals on that would be a logistical nightmare. a weapon i didn't see mentioned at all would be a dagger or other knife-adjacent weapon, being quick, probably with a longer-than-normal auto attack combo, and perhaps having an emphasis on debuffs. Though to be honest, i'd just want a character that has proper stealth mechanics. imagine they go invisible like Yelan (does she even go invisible, actually?), but you can sneak attack enemies for massively increased damage from behind. the only other weapon type i could imagine would be a shield. I know it sounds like a stretch to imagine them adding enough characters to warrant implementing and using a defensive tool as a weapon, but it would be really interesting to see the kind of stuns or innate bonuses to defense or something that may arise from their combos and heavy attacks.

I played Honkai for a bit and immediately fell in love with Fu Hua's double button combo style with her gauntlets. They're a weapon that I still think would mesh fantastically into Genshin, and kicks could maybe be weaker parts of a combo as filler; after all, it's just a kick, not the gauntlets themselves. I never thought about chain whips, though. Seeing the Terraria weapons scroll by did make me realize, "Wow, they really do have a lot of potential."

On the topic of gauntlets, I feel they could just have catalyst characters use melee fighting techniques, and have their catalysts empower their moves, portrayed using either holographic projections parented to arms and legs, or sweeping arcs of elemental energy (that can double as cool anime-esque motion lines) with their own mid-range hitbox, that don't have to adhere to the characters' body structures. That would dispel all the problems that hold back gauntlets visually, as well as being able to implement kicks like Gilgamesh (DMC4) or Balrog (DMC5). Also, chain whips/rope darts is a welcome addition to any melee fighting game in my book. EDIT: CAN'T BELEIVE I ACCIDENTALLY PREDICTED HEIZOU'S ENTIRE KIT LMAO

I've had an genshin oc that I've imagined to be using their catalyst to create hydro tentacles and just slap hilichurls around. 😭 I feel like catalyst users can be separated into 2 categories like melee catalyst users and ranged catalyst users.

There is one character in a game called Elsword, her name is Laby and she uses a mirror as a Catalyst abut instead of elemental projectiles, she punches the air causing an explosion of energy where the punch lands. This could be and idea of "gauntlets" (sorry for my bad english)

On the idea of guns, I think something like a Shougun would be an interesting choice. Now I'm not expecting like a standard Shougun to make the cut, but I could see a sort of like a powder based shotgun where when reloading, a character puts in elemental powder of their vision into where a shell would go. I also think this could be a thing of both long and short range where it's viable to get close, but you can't stay close. I donno, it's just more of an unlikely hope, but I can't help but share.

Just making sure, when you say “Shougun”, you mean “shotgun”, right? I’ve seen alternative spellings of Shogun as Shougun, so every time you said Shougun I imagined a character swinging around the Electro Archon.

Chakrams dont have to be niche, they could be a stand in for any throwing or throwing/returning weapon. Chakrams, axes, throwing knives, boomerangs, they can all be fit into the same category. All those same items can be swapped and the animation will still make sense in Genshin, where weapons teleport back to you.

I think it'd be cool to have chain whips/rope darts, and it could include not only a ball or spike at the end, but it could be a sickle on the end, like how Thresh uses. So much weapon variety as well as being unique and stylish!

I would love a weapon type with an aimed teleport charged attack, would fit dagger(s), I think. Then the movesets could incorporate more teleports accompanied by dagger throws, zipping all over the place and using the moveset to dodge. Even the charged attack could be used to teleport away, especially if it comes with an auto-targeted dagger throw at the end. Ohh, and make the plunge attacks cool too, those are a nice way to add some variation like with Keqing. Your axes/hammers/chakrams and chainwhip sections could also merge with these concepts, perhaps varying how each character uses the class.

whenever i imagined gauntlets in genshin, i always imagined them as short to mid range type of weapons with their primary attacks being ranged elemental shots, like the character punches and instead of the weapon directly hitting the opponent, a fire fist would hit them instead

I doubt there will be any new weapon types, thanks to characters like Tartaglia and Raiden we have gotten elemental skills and bursts that change their weapon types, this is a better way of doing it, you can have a catalyst user busting out a whip when they activate their burst or a claymore user straight up using a gun, this system allows for more flexible characters designs and pretty much any weapon you can imagine.

I doubt a new weapon type will be introduced with Sumeru because of the new element, but I definitely think they will have to add new weapon types after Sumeru if they don't want things to become too stale. I can see Fontaine introducing us to guns. And maybe gauntles or whips for Natlan

Greatshields could have interesting combos i think, you could have the user use the shield as both a weapon and leverage to throw themselves around in the attacks. A heavy short range cannon could also be interesting if implemented well

@@youtubegoose7021 sure but, with the longbow i think it could be balanced out by making it impossible to use in close range, since, ya know, longbows are way harder to draw and shoot, so it wouldn’t take away from normal bows usage, since (looking at you Yoimiya) can point blank fools for days but her range is 🗑

floating blades of some sort could be such a cool weapon type in genshin. i know zhongli and xingqiu already invoke this, but could you imagine how cool it'd be to see a character actively wielding floating blades like theresa from honkai, which is also produced by hoyoverse. since it's a really fantastical concept, they could really put a unique spin on it to differentiate its gameplay from the other weapon types

I doubt they would implement it since it's pretty similar to how catalysts and some character's kits currently work, but it would indeed be very cool. Or, maybe, a character who uses a catalyst (or any currently available weapon) but whose entire kit is built around floating blades of sorts (oppositely to xingqiu who does it on his burst only)

In Honkai Impact some gauntlets characters have combo moves that uses normal attack botton and ult botton. So having a character that the burst costs 10 energy and can store up to 6 or 8 and different order of attacks will have different effects would be cool. Gauntlets can also have punch blades or have a small shield (buckler) to parry enemy attacks A spear chain (kinda like madoka magica anime) that can extend or retract. Can grab small enemies into you or can latch to larger enemies so you can yeet yourself into them

I'd love to see maybe whips (since we've seen Signora use this during her boss battle), but I think it'd be niche and limited a small pool of all the Genshin characters. I love the idea of a whip sword as a skill/burst like Ivy's sword/whip from Soul Caliber.

Scythes can just be the standard Polearm, but reskinned Dual wielding can depend on the character, like one character can dual wield the Jade Cutter without creating a new architype. Guns however can't be reskinned like bows catalysts, and so must be a brand new weapon type. Another would be weapon and shield, which would arguably a bit tough to implement unless it's unique to the character.

I want guns, gauntlets, anything with a shield, and lances (I mean heavy ones. a jousting lance like Durandal's weapons in honkai, I REALLY hope "pointy stick" is not too close to polearm to disqualify it...) Gun is doable with damage falloff. You'd be surprised how much damage falloff can negate the range advantage in a game. By your logic, bow already would break the game's design just because we can attack far. Anyway, consider this. If we have close-range elemental skill/ult, the range advantage is "lost" because it only applies to basic atk. Another option. Weapon bashing or bayonets. You'd need to risk and move closer to get the extra hits. Lore-wise, I don't know all the lore but Teyvat doesn't seem to have the best technology for gunpowder and stuff. Except maybe the fatui has better stuff. Not us though! That's another reason it can be justified. For me it would be poggers if we had pistol + some one-handed blade for huge comboing potential. And it's more grounded than full-blown snipers. or Kiana gun kata LMAO Gauntlets/"boots" are possible, why would there be an unspoken rule about contact? Also animations are no problem. The characters ltterally can whisk their weapon out of existence! Just fade the gauntlets (and/or boots) out of the hands. The weapons can be folded into a pack or something if you really need them on the back. For weapon display it's easy for the character to show its fists or lift a leg to show a boot. The camera is not too far up. I don't think there will be crossbows, gunblades or scythes. Crossbow fall too close to bows. Gunblade no because it's too special for genshin. Scythes as you said it's not very doable to do it like honkai.

My input. I feel as though Gauntlets would be fantastic for a few major reasons. If you look at character design in Genshin, there is a link between Weapon type and base stats and multipliers. It seems to be it's highest with Claymore dropping off with Swords, Polearms, Bows, and Catalysts (with exceptions of course), it differs for other stats but adding a new weapon type would lead to so much room for diversity. I feel Monks (Bracers, Fighters, or whatever), Gauntlet users would have high hp and def, and either low multipliers with multiple hit combos or high multipliers with heavy slugs. I'd prefer the former. Like a catalyst user, with low damage Normals but devastating charge attacks.

I feel gauntlets and greaves should have been used in place of artifacts, used along side armor that gives buffs, that way, we can better understand what they do, even if they don't visually change anything, it would be more interesting in my mind

5:05 i really disagree with this point i think it’s a non-problem. the other animations don’t ever solely use hand to hand combat because… they’re not hand to hand combat weapons lol. it’s not an unspoken rule it just logically follows that a bow character is gonna use their bow during attacks. i promise you, no dev at mihoyo is gonna push back on this, that would be stupid asf.

I really wish for a melee/ranged hybrid - the one that gives you enough range to attack enemies somewhat afar, but you still have to move around to kite wider enemy attacks. Although whips would be kinda weird to see, it's a pretty could idea. What do you think about throwing weapon like knives or shuriken?
