As a gay man who grew up in a Catholic family, who's friends didn't support him, and was slapped across the face by my dad in the restaurant where I came out and nobody offered me a shoulder to cry on I love the reactions of these people. It always makes me cry.

i grew up to very devout mormon parents (not in the US, though), and when i came out, they said: 'you are our son, we love you and nothing will ever change that.' we've had our rough patches along the way, but overall they always put my happiness above their belief system. when i brought home my first boyfriend, my mom later hugged me with tears in her eyes, and said: 'i can truly see that you are happy.' i know i may be extremely lucky, but not all mormon parents/families are horrible.

I tried to come out as bi when I was 13. I've had feelings for girls and guys my entire life but never said anything to my parents about liking girls too because they always talked about "when you have a husband and children". Well, I tried to come out at 13 by telling them I had feelings for one of my female friends, and they got REALLY upset because I was "going around telling people my sexuality", which was not what happened. I was dating a girl and people ASKED me if I was gay and I'd clarify. They prevented me from having sleepovers with ANYONE and told me I couldn't hang out out with ANY of my friends after school. After her and I broke up I told my parents about it and told them I was "experimenting", but it's been three years and I can say with certainty that I'm still bisexual and always have been. Even after I tried to tell them I had crushes on girls in elementary school they said "no you didn't", as if they were me and understood how I felt as a kid. "Bisexuality isn't a thing" "the only people I've heard say they're bisexual are drunk men at parties" "0.0000001% of the world consists of people who say they're a fan of both parties" "if you're gay I'll still accept you and if you're straight I'll still accept you, but there's no possible way you could like both unless you were purposely rebelling against us" these are things my mother have specifically said to me. I don't feel accepted and safe in my own home. Neither does my sibling, who also revealed to me that they're bisexual as well. As soon as I turn 18 the first thing I'm gonna do is pack up my stuff and leave, because then they can't dictate what I can and can't do anymore. My friend and I have already discussed a plan w/ each other that we're going to live together and help pay off the rent 50/50, so it makes it easier to afford an apartment. I'm so tired of hiding myself and it'll be such a relief when I don't have to anymore.

There are some lovely people in the US. Here in the UK I think that no one would actually come over to the table in way of support. It’s not that they don’t care, it’s just we tend to ignore things that are happening around us. It’s a cultural thing. There’s an elephant in the living room!! And his parents torture him so much that he committed suicide within a month after coming out and the worse part was his parents was not even affected by his death. They were like " It's better to die then being gay" Now the thing is I am gay but I very afraid to come out tho I am not a muslim but still I am afraid.

I am so glad my parents were supportive of me coming out as lesbian. However I feel so bad for people I know that did not get it easy. It gives me so much hope that people speak up about this especially the older generation. I love these videos. It’s hard enough coming out but without support it would be even harder. Utah has the highest rate of teenage depression in the US by 15%, according to Blue Cross Blue Shield. It also has over triple the teenage suicide rate of my state California. Throughout the US, homeless teenagers are 20-40% LGBT, but in Utah, it is 50-60%. I wish this was not a common situation, but it clearly is.
