Taxi does not cost an arm and leg. You're tourists, that's why they rip you off. But,you probably used an independent taxi. These people, like those waiting outside the airport, will rip you off and are specifically looking for tourists. I'm not a local, but I speak Hungarian. Makes a difference. Huge difference.

Taxi drivers are sheisters everywhere. I grew up in BP and now I live in the US for the past 42 years. To boot, I travelled the world and found that is is not a BP issue exclusively. Any big city and tourist area are full of scammers.

@@liquidnitrogen4991 that can happen every where in the world , its not only Budapest related. Also when in public transport from the airport i would put mu valuables in an inside pocket of my jacket or a cross body small bag that I have in front of me. Not in back pockets, not in back packs that I have no control over (plain logic).

Talk about your experience. I found Budapest a cold, rude and hostile place. The Hungarians were very unpolished. The service was terrible and every human interaction was bad. On the other hand, Romanians were very welcoming and friendly. I am not even thinking about revisiting Budapest whilst I am positive for going back to Bucharest at some point. 🇬🇷🇷🇴

I spent 2 days in Budapest last week. We pretty much spent the entire time up on Castle Hill on the Buda side. It was definitely more our speed (Wife and I are 50 and daughter is19). We loved it, especially the evenings once the Viking Tour groups and other tourists left for the day. Next visit will focus on the Pest side. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for this succinct overview of Budapest.I lived in Budapest and taught there during 2018-2019. I agree with much of your take-aways such as reasonable prices, etc. I would add that the transportation system is one of the best we've ever experienced anywhere, whether tram, train, subway or bus. Biking also is a great way to get around. I would disagree with your comment about smoking, however. We found that many natives smoke, so much so, that cigarette butts were everywhere. But if you're reading this, and haven't been to Budapest yet, IT'S A MUST SEE.

Few if any US cities have a transportation system like Budapest and cheap and clean and safe. The newest metro is design excellence. It rivals the jubilee line in London only a fraction of the cost to build. You can travel from one of the main train stations to a new underground train station under the river to outer edge of the city in 15 min Trains run every 2 min - no drivers. 9 stations all great design - all different. I lived in prague and they have a great transportation system and had recently completed an extension of one of ther lines but nothing on the level of Budapest . You have 4 metro lines including the first in Europe. There tram lines - trolleys and trolly buses and many bus lines. Ferry boats zig zag up the river. Regular Schedules all change after 10pm with much less service that may be a big negative.

@@attilahalmai4590 Orbán was a secretary of KISZ (Alliance of Young Communists) during his secondary education. This is a position you need to be elected by your fellow young communists. His fellow young communist trusted him and he was ready to have this position. He has declared that Putin is his friend, such as Erdogan, Bolsonaro, Salvini and other idiots. Budapest since 1990 has been a liberal city, Orbán could never occupy Budapest and now he punishes the city pumping out the money. Otherwise it’s ok.

@@gyorgynemeth543 In the 80's every youngster between the age of 14 and 18 was a KISZ member, there was no choice then. Orbán never declared Putin as his friend, just has normal relations with Russia. As you call many nations' prime ministers an "idiot" showes the narrow mind of todays leftists-liberals: when they have no thought, they try to humiliate the opponent. That's why Fidesz won the elections for the 5th time now (and 4th time in a row), because leftists has no idea, no talent and no plans about the future. Nothing to tell something positive to the nation. And far the best mayor of Budapest was the conservative Tarlós István. And anything that is built in Budapast is built by the Fidesz, but opposed by the leftists (Millenáris, Városliget, Magyar Zene Háza, Néprajzi Múzeum, sportlétesítmények. Karácsony is zero talent, big mouth). So I should be very silent instead.

A videó amúgy egész jó.

He pronounces it the way we Hungarians do. The letter "s" is pronounced as /sh/ like in "ship" whereas "sz" is pronounced like /s/ like in "sip". So Budapest is actually /Boodapesht/ in Hungarian.

Budapest became popular 10 years ago, when the previous mayor cleaned it up. Many liberal people live in Budapest and this mayor was a conservative. He was therefore replaced for political reasons. Now we have a stupid, clueless mayor who doesn't do anything, just politicking, but also badly. That is why the development of Budapest stopped three years ago. Unfortunately, today's mayor is not interested in his task of making Budapest beautiful, clean and orderly. Maybe in two years they will replace it and choose a normal one. But unfortunately the liberals choose for political reasons.
