Been using ChromeOS Flex on a 2011 Macbook Pro that was fundamentally, useless and archaic... Breathed new life into it! I can only assume functionality will continue to improve as web apps gain more features over time!

Put OS Flex on my old Acer laptop that was taking 30 mins to start! Now I have a working laptop that loads in 20-30 secs. Only downside is the SD cardreader and USB ports don't seem to be available. I'd have liked to have backed up my Camera's photos the laptop but cant find a way.

hm so i tried on 3 laptops. it installed perfectly in hp omen 2022 , hp pav 15 p275tx worked fine. tho hp notebook 15 energy star amd was not very lucky.

I have tried the OS couple years ago and I wonder if the Bluetooth option is know release and available for users because it is so fundamental in the device and you can do more things than just transfer files. If the feature is available right know, I would probably change to windows to COF asap for sure.

We are using it to re-hash old window laptops (physically in good condition) with the Chrome OS Flex on it. End Users will also be using it on our Hosted Desktop Environment. Fast, secure and reliable.

tried linux vs chrome os flex chrome os is a much simpler to use version of linux did try one linux distro was too complicated imo due to typing things in command for enabling disabling certain functions while chrome os flex is much simple while cant do that much locally as linux can. Only downside is that i wish they soon enable google play store function thats the only downside

Can you install it on an external SSD drive and boot from it. Also, does it work on 32 bit machine with only 2GB of RAM, Thanks

As long as the bios boots to the external drive I don’t see why that wouldn’t work… haven’t tried it on a 32 bit machine! Wouldn’t hurt to plug in the USB and give it a go without installing

At work we are throwing this on new entry level ThinkPads, $999 AUD for top end specs running Chrome. You have to pay a lot more money for a Chromebook that matches the specs.

I have installed it on my HP laptop Pavilion g6-2231tx Notebook with 500gb hard drive.... Now my question is how to access my hard drive.. I mean i want to move some files documents there from my phone to there,?

You save your stuff to the cloud. To Google Drive. On Chrome OS, this is a web app you set up alongside Files, which only browses your downloads folder because nothing is saved to a physical disk. This is different from what you’re used to in windows, Mac and Linux.

ChromeOS Flex is beside my Mac Machines my second favourite OS. If I had Android Apps there, I may eventually even replace my Macs.

They now have the open source openFyde OS, which runs exactly like Google Chrome Flex OS. The only difference is it uses the Chromium browser instead of the Google Chrome browser.

@@NormanF62and best of all, you can get the Play Store on it. Runs great once installed. Usually it’s a couple of clicks to install the Play Store, but I had to do a little extra work to get it running on my HP Elitebook. Not too hard, but more than I was expecting.

If you run it in VM, Linux environment and Android aren’t supported. Chrome OS or its open source alternative, openFyde OS, must be run on bare metal.

You can with an openFyde ova. file but be aware the Linux desktop environment and Android apps aren’t supported.

Could i install this on my pixelbook go when the dreaded end of life comes in June 2026 , i can't find anything to match the form factor & design in new chromebooks . Why Google why !!!!!

Yes, you can. We understand your frustration with the end of life of the Pixelbook Go. It is a great device with a unique form factor and design. However, Google has to make the decision to end support for devices at some point.

@@itGenius_well they don't really do they. Maybe they could charge a small fee for support for longer. They do claim to be 'environmentally friendly' and all that jazz, so they should do it.

Well, I would argue they do and that is what makes the Google ecosystem so much smoother and more secure than Windows. MS is not posting official end of life dates but usually, ca 4 years after purchase your user experience will really start to suffer. Most people I know will throw Windows devices out after three because they become unbearable to use. Guaranteed 6 years of smooth and secure operation - and keeping to add features - while not perfect is a lot better than what is offered on other platforms. And yes, you can install lightweight Linux Distros but they do have quite a learning curve - too steep for the average user - and do are NOT configured securely out of the box. It all comes down to what you want from a computer I agree that I would really like them to see them push it to ten years. @@TrueWren
