Being that the ACCUAIR air suspension system for a Jeep JT Gladiator, JL Wrangler and even JK Wrangler is new, there have been a lot of questions regarding it. And, in this video, Cindy and I hope to answer a few of them and highlight other aspects of the kit that we think you might be interested in as well. Some of what we cover includes, what all comes with the kit, how does it all work, ride quality across the spectrum, air bag durability and we even talk about additional upgrades we would recommend. Last but not least, you'll get to see a full view of this Jeep Gladiator being raised up and lowered by the air suspension system and in real time.

I just wanted to reach out and thank you for reaching out to accu air for me on 2021 jl. They got in touch with me and took care of everything. They truly went above and beyond to get my air rides working correctly. After getting my jeep back, and driving around 2-3 hundred miles, i got to say that i am truly impressed and have zero complaints. The ride quality is awesome the more that i drive it. Looking forward to doing some over landing soon.

I really appreciate your insight on this! I am actually in the middle of doing the install of this kit on my JTR - I ordered it from Accuair back in September and just got it between Christmas and New Years. I got this mainly with a view to managing weight better between daily driving (commute) and while overlanding/off-roading (not typically rock crawling) with my family of four and a RTT. While there have been some hiccups, Accuair has been incredibly responsive and I will say that there are some considerations if you are installing the kit on a Rubicon - the rear passenger bed corner slider will need to be removed to install the complressor (I am working on a custom bracket here to all ow for reinstall of slider). Life has gotten in the middle of completing my install (will finish in 2 weeks) but can't wait to get it on the road and check it out myself! Thank you for another excellent video!

Thanks to your videos and answering all my questions I finally pulled the trigger on the kit, absolutely love it, doesn’t bottom out as much as the stock fox on my rubicon…. Only pet peeve is that the rear bounces a bit when you hit the whoops a bit faster… actuarial definitely picked the right guy for this review…
@wayalife
@wayalife 9 ай бұрын
To be fair, we were hitting the whoops a LOT harder than most people would ever attempt to. AND, I would argue that ALL traditional coil and shock suspension systems wouldn't do much better. Nothing short of coilovers and triple bypass shocks could do any better. Or at least, from my personal experience.

Yet another excellent video. At this point I've come to expect nothing less from you. I think my question would be, how does it perform offroad under articulation? Also, I'm sure it's no match to the EVO Gladiator in terms of attacking the desert at speed but how do the single stage shocks perform overall?
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
We've filmed and will be releasing a video on how this Jeep performs on the rocks soon. I think you can decide for yourself how it performs under articulation. And no, it's no coilover system by any stretch but the kit wasn't designed to be that. I personally would say that the air pistons work just as well as a good set of coils and the shocks paired with them offer a nice ride - one that I like and feel is better than stock.

Thanks for the videos on the Accuair system. After watching all your videos (and others), I decided that this system fits my needs. I have a stock '21 JLU Ruby. I am forced to park in a low clearance garage. My wife is on the shorter side and needs steps to get in the stock height. I priced a lift, on-board air and power drop steps. It seems to me that this will cover all these needs in one shot. In addition to being able to duck down to get in the garage. The price was always a little too high to swallow. With the 30% off from Blackfriday it brought the price down to $4,900. Lower then the lift, on-board air and power steps. The kit has arrived and I will be installing during my Christmas break. Wish me luck and if anyone has any tips/tricks i would like to hear.

@wayalife

#1 YES, this is something we will show in a future video. #2 This kit is designed to replace standard coils and I would say that it offers a ride that is better than stock. However, if driving hard and fast across the desert is your thing, coilovers is what you should be looking at.

I was going to do a long arm kit eventually... now I have to find out if this rides better or that. For now, my 2.5 inch lift and 35s are just fine.
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
The only reason to install a long arm kit is to correct suspension geometry after installing a really tall coils. The correction or, flattening them out back to being closer to stock will help improve your ride on pavement or when driving hard and fast across the desert. In other words, if really tall coils is not something you are wanting, there is no need for long arms. With that said, ride quality is 100% subjective and the only one who can tell you if one is better than the next is you after riding in both.

Hi Eddie, another great video - and just watched it a second time. I have a 2016 JKU sport and did a bunch of work on it (Rubicon 3.5 in lift, and all the related suspension upgrades) and have loved it on and off road. I live in the middle of a big city and have to drive to the dirt - but I only have a 2 mile commute to work - so it's also an everyday driver for me. So my question (and I would say you kinda answered it, but I wanted to be sure) - would this system smooth out city driving, over/through things like stupid large potholes, and those insane steel construction plates?! The last few years of jolts and bumps have me thinking about either adding some sort of improved suspension, or not driving the Jeep daily (and that option makes me sad...) Thanks in advance! ScubaJim!
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
What I would say that I don't think it'd be worth it to spend $7k on this suspension system just to smooth out your ride in the conditions you have stated. I would instead focus on things like the load range on your tires (C is a lot more comfortable than D or E), the amount of psi you run in them and the springs you're running. Addressing them one at a time will cost a lot less if not be free and they will go a long way to helping things out.

Great video! Have a question about articulation, when articulating all the way do the pressures change in the system then re-adjust as it goes back, and will you show it articulating? Mayby with a compare it to another gladiator with spring lift?
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
The air pistons are essentially springs and I don't believe the pressure in them changes. Yes, I will show how this Jeep articulates in an upcoming video. Unfortunately, I do not have another Gladiator with standard coils to compare it with. Sorry.
@christopherwilson9140
@christopherwilson9140 Жыл бұрын
this seems pretty interesting. Coming from having built two different 4x4s that came from the factory with air sus I have 2 questions: 1) how do the axles articulate with those airbags and does going to 3 reduce articulation? B) when an axle is articulating rapidly and a bag goes from fully extended to fully compressed is there anything to stop the bag from literally folding in half? the top and base of the bags being bolted as opposed to being held in by the limitation of the shock alone would go a long way on this.
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
We have a video on it articulating coming soon and you can decide for yourself how well or not it does. Setting 3 will offer a firmer ride but so far as I could tell, it did not affect articulation but I didn't prefer it regardless. The air pistons are bolted top and bottom and they do not fold in half.

Looks like a great system, my question is in regard to it's use doing extreme rock crawling. I have a JKU with a 5.5 inch lift, that I drive on the street and do extreme rock crawling with as well. Obviously this would be perfect for access getting in and out of the jeep and driving on the street, but how does it do on the extreme stuff, like the Hammers, can I pump it up and get it to hold my jeep at "max" lift for the best break over clearance on those big obstacles? Then lower it a little for the best articulation overall? How will it hold up to that kind of abuse? Thanks' for the great video Eddie!
@wayalife

Honestly, this is NOT something I personally would recommend for "extreme rock crawling". You would get way more flex out of a good coilover system.

Have they improved on the manifold? Previous versions, if you spring a leak in one bag all the bags will air out. For sure, the ACCUAIR system isn't trying to be coilovers and bypass shocks nor is trying to compete with them. However, I would say that this thing is still pretty fast and more so than my stock 392. We have a video on this coming soon.

The JT kit is designed to run 37's at the default ride height of 4.5" of lift. The JL is designed to run 35's at its default right height of 3.5". That said and just like any lift, there are always things you can do to go bigger such as, trim your fenders or install different ones.

Thanks for all the great information on this system. I’m pretty interested but trying to determine compatibility with the axles and tires that I have. I’m currently running Fusion Kingpin 60 in the front and a14 bold rear axle, 72” wide with 40’s. I understand that I have to replace all my suspension components with the kit components but want to make sure that there won’t be any issues with the aftermarket axles. The stated lift on the Accuair site is 4”. Any idea if this is 4” for a Rubicon? Or Sport?

Thank you for the reply! Right, I guess that makes sense. I’m assuming by standard you are meaning designed for the stock vehicle? I am running the RPM ultimate aluminum control arms and RK 4.5 inch springs. Unfortunately it looks like I would lose 2” of lift. RK says the 4.5 is over Rubicon height so the air bags would only lift 2.5 over stock for a Rubicon if I am looking at that correctly.

Your adjustable front track bar is set for the default height. Driving on setting 1, the change in height isn't enough to really make a difference in axle shift and so your steering wheel won't be off enough to even notice. Certainly, your Jeep computer won't see it. If riding on the bump stops or at setting 3, the highest you can go, you can only drive 25 mph or less and again, it's slow enough that your Jeep computer will not see it as being a problem.

Having an airbag setup that takes care of constantly changing loads when packing for a long overlanding trip would be awesome. @wayalife Жыл бұрын
I'm surprised to hear that your coils come up short. Just about every lift coil I have ever tested comes up higher than what is advertised. What I can tell you is that ACCUAIR states their JL kit will clear 35" tires on a Sport or Sahara with factory fenders. To me, this means it'll easily clear 37's on a Rubicon. I'll see what I can do about getting measurements but it won't be the same on a JL.

@@wayalife I actually started with the AEV springs, to stiff. Then went to 2.5 inch rk and it was just too short for me…sat more like 2 inches… so then I went 3.5 rk and it was like a 2.75-3 inch lift. I wouldn’t mind the air set up sitting the same, but don’t want to loose any lift. I think it sits perfect now (but want a inch or two more for off-road, and 2 or 3 inches less for my wife and kids to get in. It’s a lot of money to loose clearance (and desired height for daily driving) just hope it’s a true 2.5 to 3. Also wish you could tweak the setting two air pressure to achieve an extra .5 -1 inch of lift. Any info you may have or can find out would be great. I know the measurements on the gladiator wouldn’t be the same on the rear but figured front would be similar. Right now I’m running 37 inch BFG’s, which run small… And the distance from ground to the fender is about 43.5 inches. And I have about 8 inches from tire to fender.
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
I just gotta ask, how are you coming up with all these height differences? Are you working off of some kind of base number that you took when you first got your Jeep? Something fixed and absolute like bump stop cup lip to base of coil perch or axle pad or are you just working off of your opinion of what you think you're seeing and based on the coils you were sold and how tall they were 'supposed' to be?
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
What I can tell you is that for daily driving, you can set the suspension to #1 and that will be 2" less than the default 4.5" of lift. It will stay at this setting even if you turn off your engine, start it up or what have you. For off road, setting #2 is what I would recommend as is give you the clearance that you'd need but without compromise to ride quality. Setting #3 will raise you an inch to 5.5" of lift and that's nice to help give you a more approach, breakover and departure angle but the ride is a lot firmer and I would not recommend leaving it there. If you haven't seen it already, this video shows some of this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbGKYNiorrSvYp8.html

@@wayalife I’ve been working off the same method since day one… I’ve taken a level and put it under the fender, and then dropped a tape from the top of that level to the ground floor below in level garage between the 3.5 inch springs, and the 37inch bfgs. I’ve gained roughly 1.5 inches from the tire size increase and 2.75 inches on the springs… with that being said I had test fit my 37s on the factory suspension and had a base number with 37s also. I’m very hopeful that I will see the 3 inches advertised. And that it’s not the numbers like other companies show which is all based off Sahara and rubicon’s get and inch less. I think I’m also a little worried since accuair now had the heights for 1 and 2 set and not manually editable. I think the lift I want, could easily be achieved with some minor adjustments. Last, I’ve been told but accuair that the drive shaft on the wranglers is perfectly fine at both 1/2/3 and in the rare cases it’s at max height, would be fine. Hope that stands true.
