I’m currently on my first travel assignment as a Mother-Baby nurse. Surprisingly, on the unit there are more travel nurses than there are staff nurses. I live 101 miles from my assignment. I do my 3 shifts in a row and drive back home. I still have my PRN job at my local hospital. Travel nursing is a great way to expand your knowledge base, network, and make great money.

@@amandag2089 It was easy to get started. My only struggle was trying to get an assignment no further than 2 hours from my house. So that put a limit on my options. It took two months to get the assignment I was looking for. Everything after that was just making sure I did my physical and online modules on time. Your agency will tell you everything you need to get done. 😏👍

We’re very kind and fair to our travel nurses on my unit (medical Surgical icu). In general my unit is amazing and very team oriented. I’ll be leaving in one month to start travel nursing; I’ll miss my unit for sure.

I am not a travel nurse, but I am a new nurse. My unit used to be 100% COVID, and I have heard many nurses say that about travelers. I think it comes from a place of frustration. Many nurses felt like they were having to take on more patients and also got thrown into a patient population/work environment they didn't choose to be put in. I agree we should all be nice and respectful to travelers because we should be happy we have help!

Also as a traveler cna, I have gotten the worst of the worst from staff. Because I'm making as much as the charge nurse. Regardless of the fact I bust my hump and work circles around them. But I think they are so frustrated because even if they wanted to many staff can't get into traveling unless willing to give up their current job completely. Some hospitals stipulate they wait a year before taking a contract with their current hospital. My only gripe now is it seems agencies are trying to phase out travel cnas. I know texas is closed to cna travel contracts. But Florida completely breached my contract: nights to days, float resources to covid medsurg, etc. And my recruiter folder like a 2 dollar lawn chair. So I signed up with another agency. So now I'm looking into moving to a zero income tax state with open cna travel contracts. But the mortgage info is huge!! I'll be checking for the prep video, if none, I'm definitely interested. I'm about to buy a home after this contract.

I spoke with a travel tax agent and the 50 mile is a myth. What the irs looks at is what you do after a shift, if you can drive home after a shift and drive to work the next time that's not a travel job. But if you have to sleep to be able to drive home safely and can't make it to work the next morning after a reasonable amount of sleep, then that's a travel job. My agent heavily stressed about how the 50 mile rule is a myth and I've spoke with a lot of travel nurses who've said the same. But it all depends on the irs audit I guess lol people have gotten away with worse

@@oihcam22 Explain how giving 1 nurse all the high acuity patients makes sense. How does it help the patient? The money isn't coming out of ur pocket. Right now, the money is coming from the government, not the facility. N any situation, acuity levels of a units patients should be divided rightfully. Clocking some1s pay is simply being envious & unprofessional. When I worked full-time, I never cared that agency nurses made more money than me. I had full benefits, paid vacation & sick time. I appreciated them coming 2 help my unit & I helped them when they needed it. As a travel nurse, I come 2 help take a load off the units I assist, not b used as a work mule 4 nurses & CNAs who hate their job & sit around clocking peoples paycheck.

Don't forget when you get cancelled by the hospital you are working as a traveller when the hospital cancels you for the day you lose part of your stipend. I tried to pickup extra shifts and none were available if you are fortunate to find a extra shift must be in that pay period. I’m just starting my first travel nurse job north but I’m in Canada. Im curious how it works here. What I know so far is my agency pays different rates based on how far you’re willing to work from home. Once you go a few hours away you make the max amount but if you stay within 40-60km you can have paid accommodations, however you make the minimum amount which is $10/hr CDN less then if you travel but even the minimum is far more then you’ll make directly from an LTC home or hospital. So far the only con seems to be the short contracts of 8 weeks but that also means the change to travel is high

Hi. Thanks for the great video. I'm wondering if you can address the following. I am a provider of travel nurse housing. I'm trying to find travel nurse discussion groups on FB in order to have discussions with travel nurses to find out what type of things they look for when seeking furnished accommodations. However, most of the travel nurses groups I've been able to find on that site seem to limit this in one of two ways. First, if you are a landlord (not a travel nurse) you can only join groups allow posting of properties, but no general discussion or questions. Second, for the groups that do allow general discussion and questions, you must be a travel nurses. Do you know of any groups that allow non-travel nurses to join for the purpose of general discussion and questions with travel nurses?

I'm so glad it's not counted bcz we do spend in order to provide our service accross country; food, transportation, etc...
