Yep, I learned that when you say "I'm flying a drone" most people are curious and interested. But once in a while you'll get someone who is skeptical and will not approve. However, when you say "I'm flying a quadcopter" suddenly it's a racing toy and no one cares.

Good tips! I personally started my drone journey with a cheap and cheerful budget GPS drone. For 2 reasons- 1. I didn't want to spend a vast amount of money, just in case I didn't take to it. 2. I knew crashing would be highly likely in the first few flights, so chose a cheap drone just in case! My first drone was a Hubsan H502c GPS drone with a crappy unstabilised 720p camera but I loved that drone so much, learnt so much about my own ability and yes I did crash it several times, no damage other than a bent prop, it really was a very robust drone! Agree with your choice, the Mini 2 is a good starting point, although a little fragile if crashed!! My advise would be find a huge wide open space with no trees or other obstacles and practise controlling it, get confident with the controls before trying anything fancy or daring! 😁⚠️😎👍

Hey, I just came across your channel whilst visiting my mother. I was on KZfaq, and there you were. I just subscribed. You just put a thought into my head. Why not make money with my drones. I’m a beginner, but I do own two drones, DJI mini and DJI Phantom 4. I take the mini everywhere I go. So if I’m at or near a good spot, I launch the drone in a very inconspicuous way, straight up anywhere from two hundred to five hundred feet, take a 360 video clip and bring it right down. Good and simple practice. Thanks for the idea on using the drone/drones to make money. I have many other cameras, so now I can incorporate all that I have in such a way to earn additional money. So that and the computers and editing software from Apple, I’m good to start.

Great video. Thank you. All in with the dji mini 3 pro i am figuring I'll spend $1,400 with the remote upgrade, accessories bundle, taxes, hard case, etc to be fully ready to go. Such a huge purchase! Ive been saving for so so long. Ive never flown a drone before. I wish i knew someone with one to try it out.

Thank you for such a great and informative video Russ. I am really proud to say that your channel with all the information and advice you present in it, so far, helped me a lot to make my decision to choose my drone which I bout two years ago and enjoy flying since then. I also encouraged too many friends of mine to follow you and watch your videos to educate themselves before jumping in this amazing hobby. The most part I really enjoy and learn from is your informative videos about rules and regulations here in the US that makes me feel more responsible and educated about flying my drone. I always remember every single word of what you said just before I put my drone up in the sky. Another great point no one could forget or deny is that you are a very kind person to provide different lots of advice and answer your channel subscribers’ questions freely and openly; I never asked you a question without getting a helpful answer, so thanks a bunch boss. Thanks again & have a wonderful day.

Thanks Russ. I've been a subscriber for some time now and have enjoyed your channels growth. I got started with drones a few years back when I bought a Parrot Bebop from a discount table at Staples for $99. I had so much fun with it's 6 minutes flight time that I upgraded to the Bebop 2 and then the DJI Spark. I still have the Spark along with a DJI Mavic Mini. I do mostly still photography so the Mini is good for now. But, I have to say, it was a little too windy for the Mini here yesterday so I dug out the Spark and flew it around in Sport mode and it's still a blast. Keep it up.

I have the Mini-1, the first version, and it is fine for beginners. I have flown three times and had no problems and am still learning to use it. I follow all of the flying rules and have had no problems. The other advantage of the minis is that as of the last time I checked you did not need a 107 license to fly since the mini is below the weight limit. I used the mini to scout out campsites in the desert, before using them.

You are so right re. attitudes. I live - and fly - in a very rural part of England. I was recently confronted by a dog walker who yelled at me not to fly my drone near his house (½ mile away) and that he was going to call the police. A few reassuring words from me and thankfully he calmed down.

Great video, i've only been into the hobby for about a year; I have the original Mavic Air & the Mavic Air 2, but my experience has been the opposite; i've had tons of people coming up to me wandering exactly what it is & after i explain to them alot of the cool features, they would like to buy one; in fact i can't remember any negative encounter i've had since owning these drones, granted i've only been in the hobby for about a year but it's been nothing but positive feedback, feels great just to be learning something new; thanks again for the excellent video & informative commentary

Russs, once again outstanding vid. I started out with some really cheep drones. Waste of $$. My first real drone was the mini. Loved it greatly, but realized a lot of my vids were near the ocean and wind was going to be a major part of my flights. So Dji was nice enough to take back my mini and send me, For extra $$, the Mavic air 2. I fly around mostly at work. just because I'm there 12-16 hrs a day. I work at one of the major ports in the US. I must admit flying around warf cranes and all sorts of equipment has really sharpened my flying skills. And many thanks to you, I've learned how to use most of the really cool features. Keep up the great work!!!

Hey Russ, thanks for all of the great information! I'm a complete newbie (DJI Mini 2 actually being delivered today!!! LOL) so I do appreciate your time making these videos. I decided on the mini 2 as a gateway to see if drones are going to be a good hobby for me to get into. Seems like a solid platform and a ton of information here on KZfaq. I have a question, probably the first of many as I fly more, that comes to mind right away. Besides the DJI fly app (I also installed aloft, the old kittyhawk app), what other apps or websites should I install/bookmark on my phone to have when I want to fly? Thanks Russ!

Hey Russ👋 I think I got my first drone (mavic pro) around the same time as you did, and yes, I crashed mine the third day I had it 😆😆 The first video of yours that I’ve watched was your tutorial on point of interest, great video. I still have the mavic but purchased the mini 2 not too long ago because it’s easier to take back packing (lighter) and mostly fly that now. Gonna get my part 107 one of these days to try and expand my hobby from just flying for fun to maybe make travel vids with lots of drone footage in them. Love your vids, always very informative👍

Great video Russ, thanks so much. I've been interested in getting into drones for some time but for some reason or another I have always put it on the back burner, until now. I think I'm actually ready to pull the trigger and get started. Since the Mini 3 Pro has come out would you still recommend starting with the Mini 2? If so, what would be your reasoning? I've been watching your videos and was amazed at the video you recently did about the Mini 3 Pro and what it could do, simply amazing! I do agree with your comment on the lateral sensors, why wasn't that a priority over the reverse sensor is beyond me. Then what do I know, I'm new to this anyway, just seems like common sense to me. One last question, do you think I should sign up and start taking the classes to get my FAA Part 107 before I actually get my drone? Thanks again for all your very informative videos and your time.

I don't understand why people buy their first drone that cost 100's of dollars. So many people i know have lost or crashed them. Another friend bought the Mavic Air 2, five months ago. Today, the Mini 2 appears to be the best choice for many beginners. However, depending on cost and what features are cut, the rumored Mini SE may be a good lower cost option, but we'll see when it comes out. The other possibility is the rumor of a more expensive Mini 3, but cost and additional features are unknown at this time.

Great video! I’d have to disagree @ 8:03 when you say “there’s been no major issues with drones” I’m a drone enthusiast but I’m also a military pilot. I’ve personally had a near miss with a drone on departure low and close to the ground. Had we taken that drone in the engine, or if it damaged a critical control surface that could have been millions of dollars in damage and potentially loss of life. These occurrences unfortunately do happen more often than you’d think. Following the rules and avoiding airports is extremely important.

However, I live on an island that has a Naval Air Station and little did I know that most of the island is a restricted flight zone. Yep so now I have to drive somewhere else to enjoy my drone. I'm finding that in my area there are a bunch of no fly zones. From State Parks to protected coastline it has me worried about flying. I fly quite often but I've thought the same because even I feel that way. Let's be real for a minute though big tech is watching everything and everyone regardless. They can say oh your data safe we aren't watching you as they show you ads for something you just talked about. I do see the privacy concerns with drones but even when I'm flying mine I'm rarely interested in what someone else is doing I'm normally cruising to get pictures of the water or the sky or whatever my focus is. Normally I will let others know ill be flying. I try to keep my flights mainly remote though.

Depends on your use case. I like the Rode Wireless Go for it’s convenience. The disadvantage is that it can’t shield interference, and the audio quality is not the best. In my studio, I use the Diety D3 Pro, which is amazing.

I've been considering getting into drones as a hobby for awhile now. Every time I go to Bestbuy I drool over the Air 2S. However, the more I read stories and watch videos of drone operators constantly getting reported to local authorities and the FAA, the more I shy away from it. I used to fly RC planes and launched model rockets with cameras on them. Never had a problem. If I'm going to have a target painted on my back, I don't think I can justify it as a hobby. Am I missing something?

It’s part of the game. But honestly, there is nothing they can do, as long as your aren’t trespassing, or blatantly spying on someone.

Got a question for ya Russ. Have you run into, or heard about, people’s devices that they use when flying getting the message “CPU fully loaded”? I’m getting it with the mini 2 and I’ve seen on KZfaq others that have gotten it. I’ve tried clearing the cache, clearing the flight data and all pics and videos out of the app but still get that msg. Have you heard of any fixes? Thx

Russ, so many good points in your video. I remember my first big property, with a little practice shooting range, wondering if we’d get drones spying on what was totally legal, and safe (the way we did it anyway). So while I didn’t want other people ‘droning’ over me, I knew they were totally cool. Building a new house, my wife suggested we get one to document the progress of the whole thing, and I’d say it was about 5 nano-seconds for me to say, “Oh, ok, sounds good!” A new Mini was on its way. Never regretted it. Even when the Mini-2 came out. That just made me know I wanted an AIR2. So, now I’ve added one. With the AIR2S out, that makes me think, I need to stay tuned to whatever this Mavic-3 turns out to be. With retirement a few years out, and so much building going on, maybe I need to learn the aerial survey business. Thanks again.

Big question maybe worth it's own video.. Assuming you have a lot of drones now (i have 3) how do you manage keeping all those batteries topped off and ready? I see you have many I other toys too. I have a osmo too. I don't video nearly as much as you so drones will sit for weeks as i use only 1 for a while. Thx

So basically you fly only 12 foot, and in a 12 foot circle around you, because you want to make sure you don't offend anyone, or get fined by the FAA. So basically don't buy a drone no matter what! You said one rule is to not fly over anyone, well if you fly in town at all, houses are close, so 50 feet is maybe the farthest you could fly before violating that rule. Then you say go out away from town, that sounds great, but then you have to be in VLOS, so unless you have an open field you will always lose VLOS. So yea get a drone if you live in the middle of nowhere with no tree's.

Does remote ID apply to any part 107 pilot's drone, regardless of weight. For instance if I have a part 107 license, then do I have to have a remote ID module on my drone even though it's sub 250g?
@raze3297
@raze3297 3 жыл бұрын
Remote ID will be required for all drones, regardless of whether you're flying recreationally or commercially (Part 107), with a small exception of "FAA-recognized identification areas (FRIAs) sponsored by community-based organizations or educational institutions". The 250g weight limit only applies to recreational pilots. All commercially operated drones need to be registered and all Part 107 rules apply, regardless of weight.
