When you mention Colombia as a place to visit or call home, images of its infamous past come to mind. A history of legendary drug trade governed by ruthless Cartels.
If this is all you know about Colombia, you've got the gringo version. A misrepresentation of one of my favorite countries in the world. I fell in love with this country when I first came to Medellin, and right from that first trip I knew I wanted to make this country, and this city in particular, my home.
Traveling inward from Colombia’s Caribbean coastlines, through the rainforest, you come to this stunning city built into the valleys of mountains.
Today I walk you through the breathtaking landscapes and outstanding food of Medellin, showing you the warmth of its people and culture, all the things that made it a special place in my eyes. This is just a glimpse of how great this city is, and I hope it inspires you to go out and explore it (and the world) yourself.
Stay tuned for more stories about Medellin and other cities that I love.

Your message in this video was inspiring. I’ve connected to this because the last 6 years I’ve built my company and kept grinding but eventually I burnt out and I sold everything that was making me unhappy. The hustle culture of America is amazing but it also doesn’t allow you to connect to the world. I now have my service business only and am focusing on building my company and life to be flexible. I can work for 6 months and leave for 6 months. Or maybe just be able to have the freedom to be able to leave whenever. In my opinion this is true freedom. Love your message 👍

I'm glad you were able to relate and found the video interesting. I'm working on developing a network show and this was my first attempt at a pilot Episode. The next episode should be releasing soon on Rio de Janeiro Brazil and I'm filming my 3rd version in Sicily over the next 3 weeks. The hope is that I create enough interest to develop a show about Americans choosing to leave for an alternative country. I feel alot of people have thought about it and I want to show its possible and how people are acheiveing global living.

23 minutes in, is the best advice you're going to hear anywhere. 1. Come try it out, don't just pack up and move. 2. Learn Spanish. 3. Patience. Things don't work fast and arent always efficient. Cost of living cheaper, the quality of life is great, people are amazing, just come and try it out. I've lived in Australia, England, America and the Caribbean and travelled Asia, Europe, America and Central and South America. Medellin specifically is by far my most favourite city of anywhere so far for all the reasons and caveats that David advises.

People mention the low cost of living, which is a huge plus, and I agree that it is low, IF you come from a country with a highly valued currency like the US dollar, Euros, Canadian dollars, British Pounds, etc. The cost of living there is not cheap per se, but it is cheap for us. If you ask the local Colombians, they would not say it's so cheap. What seems like a small amount of money to us in USD is not such a small amount to the local Colombians. It's all relative. I've had to learn to maintain that perspective to keep from overpaying for things when I'm there visiting.
@Karl__Pierre

Hi, thanks for the video. My girlfriend and I are doing our nomad digital experience over here in Medellin. The overall experience has been great. Unfortunately, we had an "incident" when we went out of a supermarket in Sabaneta. The security guard asked us to show up our receipts, even though we had just passed by the cashier and were full of plastic bags provided by the market. Most disappointing was the fact that they asked that only for us, the only black clients in the supermarket. We don't want to let a disgusting moment ruins our trip, but I would like to ask you whether you got some moment like this. Thanks again.
@Karl__Pierre
@Karl__Pierre 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately what you're seeing is due to racial conditioning in the USA. The security will ask for receipts randomly and regardless of race. Security gets paid like 300 usd a month and easily replaced so you will see sometimes they act like FBI mainly to show their boss they are good workers and or power trip. Continue enjoying your time and whenever you have a crazy American racist thought ask yourself am I tripping because of American conditioning or has this person taken a racist position. Fun side story...I had a friend with me from the states. On his first trip we went to a restaurant on a Friday night, no reservations and he got a crappie table...he immediately told me they gave us this crappie table because we're black...I told him no it's because we don't have reservations and they are doing their best to not turn us away....30 minutes later without prompt, the waitress came over and said someone canceled and we can have that table because this table is a crappie one. Long story short is enjoy your time and live without thinking about your skin color as much as you don't think about your eye color.

Going on my first trip to Colombia in a few months with my partner. He was born in Armenia and we'll be going to all the cities to see how I like Colombia because he's always expressed wanting to move back to his home country. We live in Austin, so cost of living has reached unobtainable levels. Medellin seems so lovely, but I think first we may start out buying property in Armenia to be close to family before possibly branching out. These videos are helping me a lot in understand what I may be getting into, and I'm still very excited!

Awesome let me know your thoughts on Medellin! I haven't been to Armenia to comment on it but I just got back to the USA yesterday from Sicily, groceries 2.5x the price. It's absurd and doesn't seem sustainable. Right now it's either south America or Europe for me.

I appreciate your time, great editing and effort you put in this video. Its very helpful. I have one question though. I’m from Southern California. I grew up here and just can’t do humidity and cloudy days. I’ve lived in New York, Florida and Washington state. The cold never bothers me. I moved away because I just couldn’t deal with all the humidity. Is Medellin humid? If so, how bad is it? I’ll be visiting in December 2022. Looking forward to it. Thanks again 👍
@Karl__Pierre

I grew up in New York and also live near the water in Florida. Humidity is all I know and love lol. Medellin rains almost daily, it is a very wet environment but the temperature is between 65-80 degrees. I'm not sensitive to humidity or dry environments so I can't really say anything other than say visit and see if it works for you or not.

Loven the videos but I have a question I’ve yet to see spoken about, pets!! I haven’t heard anything about how they feel about them. My father is from Manizalles and I spent 3 months in Colombia back in the 90s and I don’t remember anyone having pets in apartments. I know Colombians don’t like cats much, including my father but how hard is it to rent with a small dog?

ok, .. very good video, .. good material, .. Medellin the most innovative city in the world, as declared by Wall Street Journal and by Citi Group two very powerful entities of the USA. I am an American from New York city in the USA, .. and I find the city of Medellin metropolis to be the best modern city in all of Latin America, .. .. actually i place the fantastic city of Medellin in the top 4 cities of the United states Of America, .. .. that is New York city then Los Angeles =, .. San Francisco, .. Chicago and The beautiful city of Medellin, .. these are actually the best 4 cities in all of the AMericas, ... and Medellin the most innovative city in the world is in the top 4 USA cities. In many instances the magnificent city of Medellin is actually better then New York City, LA, San Francisco and Chicago, .. specifically Medellin has a better quality of life then any city in the USA. That is the climate in the fantastic metropolis of Medellin is actually the best climate in the world, .. Medellin has over 35 academic universities that actually compete with any university in the USA specially Boston Ma, .. Medellin offers the best health care in the Americas, with extremely modern hospitals and competent doctors,... Medellin is actually a technology giant with the only epicenter for the 4th industrial revolution in the Americas, together with silicon valley in California USA. The majestic city of Medellin has the only Software Valley in all of the Americas, in conjunction to silicon Valley in San Francisco california. At the end of the day, .. within a short 20 minute drive from the perimeters of Medellin you will enjoy nature like you have never experience before, .. this is actually normal way of life in Medellin and surrounding counties and towns of Medellin, .. .. I have traveled to swiz Alps which is very beautiful, .. but it will never compare to the absolute and most amazing green emerald mountains of the Antioquia Andes, ... which are spectacular, .. Medellin and Antioquia are truly a very spectacular AVATAR place on earth, there is actually nothing on planet earth more beautiful then the magnificent metropolis of Medellin and the colonial towns of Antioquia any where in the world. with respect to way of life, I am from New York city, .. and in New York city to enjoy the type and way of life it will actually have a cost, .of . about $7,000 to $10,000 USA Dollars per month. However in Medellin metropolis this standard of life will only cost me about $1,100 USA Dollars, .. .. actually it is better then New York city, .... because the buildings in New York city most are very old, .. very nice building but extremely old and buildings in New York City are all next to one an other, your apartment would have a limited view of the next building next to yours all building obstruct the views in any luxury building. . You do not have this problem in Medellin metropolis, .. your views are absolutely spectacular from most apartments in Medellin. Let me make easy and simple for all expats and digital nomads to understand, .. .. with $1,100 US Dollars in New York city, or San Francisco or Chicago, per month I would be able to afford a rat infested apartment and I would starve to death in any of the large and important cities of the USA, .. and my life would be in danger of being killed because these poor neighborhoods in New York city are extremely violent. So enjoy life to the fullest in Medellin the Best Urban City in the world as declared by New York Times and the Financial Times of the USA and Europe.

You'd have a really hard time finding an apartment in NYC in the worst neighborhood for 1100. Maybe a room...or an unfinished basement. Your love for Medellin is well documented. I would actually say $2000 in Medellin affords you a $7000-10,000 a mountain lifestyle. Glad you enjoyed it!
