Hi Felix.. just a small correction for you.. "fluent" (whilst it *can* mean 'fluid') is a term mostly used in respect to how well someone speaks a second language. A better expression in English would be "Test dates are fluid." Meaning the date can easily change.

Frankly Felix, it is not "as simple as that", if it is supercooled oxygen, or methane, it will not be evaporating at atmospheric pressure, it will be only evaporating at those temperatures if at below earth atmospheric pressure. And if it were then the tanks would implode. So saying it's supercooled is another of Elons Lies. The main reason to supercooled these liquid fuels, is to allow them to be used to get through the radiation belts, where the heating from high energy protons is sufficient to melt any thick sections more than a few millimeters thick without active cooling. It is a very complex and difficult task to design probes and satellites capable of handling the region between 1200km and 15000 km above the equator where high energy proton fluxes are in the region of 100kW per square metre per steradian

Reaching re-entry is not that great of an achievement. Every piece of space to in low earth orbit achieves reentry. Honestly, they're lucky to break the atmosphere without cascading engine failure. It's an inherent design flaw that's going to happen eventually every time.

Blue Origin did not resume "crewed missions". They resumed passenger tourist flights. I'm fully supportive of space tourism but BO's (and Virgin Galactic's) pretense that they're launching "astronauts" as part of a "crew" on a "mission" to "space" is ridiculous. EDIT: As usual, some people in the comments are trotting out the argument that "astronaut just means person who has traveled in space" and therefore these tourists are astronauts. But that's simply wrong. Logically, factually, historically wrong. NASA has NEVER used the word astronaut that way. Astronauts may receive their astronaut WINGS after they've crossed the technical definition of space, but that's not what makes them astronauts. They are already astronauts long before they ever receive their wings because Astronaut is a PROFESSION, a Vocation, a Job, a Calling. A profession requiring enormous training and carrying huge responsibilities. This is how the term has always been used. Every time NASA introduces a new mission crew or new graduates from its training program, the people aren't introduced as "not-yet astronauts" or "soon-to-be astronauts". They are introduced as ASTRONAUTS, full stop. When Crew-1 was announced, NASA didn't say "here are our THREE astronauts plus our non-astronaut Victor Glover who hasn't been to space yet." No, of course not. NASA said "here are the FOUR ASTRONAUTS for Crew-1". This is how NASA has always used the term, from the very start of the space program, beginning with the original Mercury 7 astronauts. The fact that it refers to a profession is why we can also talk about FORMER astronauts and RETIRED astronauts. If the term simply referred to crossing a threshold (went above Karman Line, graduated from college, survived into adulthood) it wouldn't make any sense to be "former" something that is merely a historical FACT. You can't be a FORMER adult or FORMERLY a person who graduated college. Once you've become an adult or graduate, you will always be an adult or graduate. You also can't be a "retired" something if that something is a historical fact rather than an ongoing activity (job, profession).

If it takes off, follows a profile, meet requirements during the whole flight, and then eventually lands where it was supposed to, than that is a mission, like what every spacecraft or comercial aircraft does every day.

Blue origin passengers shouldn’t even be called astronauts. That should be reserved for those who work hard for months if not years and going to orbit to do a particular job not just to go up spend a few short minutes and then come straight down again. Again, they are not astronauts, they are visitors of a very short up-and-down flight.

I'm no rocket surgeon, but I really dislike the look of the Starlink dispenser door mechanism. Generally SpaceX designs give me a lot of intuitive confidence. Their engineers will have all sorts of parameters and priorities I don't know, but based purely on what I've seen, I would have the door rotate about the central axis of Starship, sliding sideways along rails around the diameter of the payload bay. My thinking is it could be driven by small electric motors with plenty of gearing for torque, multiple redundancy of motors, and a more consistent sliding action which can even help alignment, rather than a jerky open-shut. I'm sure this will be wrong, for reasons I don't know, but I'd love a deep dive explanation from Elon or Spacex as to why they've gone with it hinging up and inwards.

Thanks for the video. Possibly the second tower will be initially a catch only tower. There is no need for a second launch tower at the moment and they may need to change the launch ring for future designs so why build it now and connect it to a tank farm. Also, if the catch goes wrong it does not damage the launch tower.

I assume the reason for the lower fuel level at WDR for IFT4 could be a fix for exactly the issues Felix has described in his video. To keep more distance between the LOX and the methan to prevent freezing. Maybe spacex discovered the need of a second dome shell between LOX and Methan for isolation.

The main consideration for loading quickly and just before launch to avoid boil off of propellant probably isn't to "save a lot of money". The more weight of liquid propellant there is in the rocket at liftoff, the more Delta V performance the rocket provides and the more there is left over after separation for recovery burns.

Yes, much larger Vac Trucks exist (unsure if Vacall makes them, but see them where I live.) Likely there are units within driving distance of Mars Gateway, but they are also going to be mostly contracted to oilfield work. This truck is probably leased from Vacall by SpaceX for this work; and since they aren't in a big rush, no point spending extra on the bigger truck.

SpaceX website is now saying June 5th for the launch! Edit: Massive changes, hot stage ring will be jettisoned after boost back and the ship will perform a flip and landing burn!

@patfre That is what SpaceX did with Flight 3 and it lifted off on that date. So I am fairly confident in a June 5th launch date

The most important reason for speedloading is that the fuel cannot be kept suporcooled once it is loaded. Boiloff starts once the temperature reaches the boiling point, but by then the liquid has already expanded and has less performance.

Concerning an after-IFT4-launch party at Raptor Roost: I commented on a LabPadre video a couple of days ago and wished them a great time at the party at Raptor Roost. Louis replied "No more raptor roost. We have teamed up with Rocket Ranch. A much better venue and a much better fit for us." I assume he means at the RR viewing spot near his raptor roost site, but he may mean at the RR ranch location. Better find out, Felix! :-)

Felix, If you are in Florida, find a cheap Coco-Beach motel, and ask for a monthly stay. From the beach, you can then walk to the northern most point to view rocket launches. This was the beach to be at during the moon race, and it's an experience you'll never forget. You'll have to walk about a mile to reach the end of the beach, so prep lightly, and if you set up shop there you might attract a lot of attention from the locals.🙂 (Then again, he may have a VIP seat...)

I'm pretty sure those trucks are called hydro vac trucks. At least that is what they are called in the oilfield.

Felix. Do u reckon they surround the tank with pear light or they could use ceramic shell. Although a high heat protector. It will respond as a coolant. A similar thing occurs with polystyrene. In case of explosion 💥. It would harden but remain light.

I believe that if SpaceX plans two launch towers with rapid launches, they will need to pipeline in propellant to the site. The number of tanker trucks required and the heavy duty road use will rapidly become impractical, using current transfer methods.

9:08 Why does the graphic show a flip maneuver then a BOOSTBACK BURN WITH THE ENGINES NOT POINTING DOWN RANGE to reverse down range velocity? Seems seriously backwards if the booster is ultimately required to return to the launch site. It seems like the graphic has left out some important details.

What I've been saying from the beginning to fuel starships is a port on the international waterway into starbase. Push a barge in that refrigerates and makes nitrogen and oxygen and hydrocarpons methane. Then pull it out of the way long to starship and put it back
