Dredd was an incredible movie. So sad that it didn’t do well.

Karl Urbans Dredd was amazing, and still is. I just watched it my daughter this week. She loved it just as much as me. Anybody stupid enough to skip Dredd doesn't deserve the thrill of the movie. Their loss, no one else.

I can not describe to you the profound sadness I feel every time I'm reminded that Dredd did so poorly. It was a perfect Dredd film and it remains a great crime that we will likely never get more Karl Urban Dredd.

Imagine a world where a movie can make $200m worldwide and can be stated “nobody watched it”

What about Independence Day: Resurgence? People were interested in a sequel for years. But when we finally got one 20 years later, no one really cared.

Nobody wanted The Matrix: Resurrections. They may have wanted a 4th Matrix movie. They didn’t want that.

Serenity - I also blame marketing. I was not hard core fan of the tv series firefly, but I was a fan. I never made the connection between the movie and TV Series, until the Serenity was out on DVD. Sometimes what you name a movie does matter.

I wanted Sin City 2 _sooo_ bad, unfortunately what we got was more like a successor to The Spirit. Some times you make Desperado, some times you make Spy Kids 3D.

*"Dredd"* was boom. Karl Urban rocked as the titular Mega City lawman. In fact, all the films listed here I like.

Let's remember that's the original blade runner tanked too . Anyone who loves blade runner truly understands 2049 and its deep beauty about not using technology to replace the beauty of reality

Some of my favourite movies of all times on this list! (Serenity, Dredd, Watchmen, Scott Pilgrim) and Blade Runner 2 definitely deserved better.

Blade Runner 2049 was a total masterpiece not many movies in the last decade can reach its level of complexity and beauty.

"10 incredible movies that their fanbases wanted that just arrived at the wrong time." There. That's a far less clickbaity yet more accurate title.

You forgot to say that Scott Pilgrim is actually a hilarious comedy with superhero accents. Honestly it's a perfect movie and the music is good!

Serenity was amazing. I barely knew the TV series existed and I never watched it. Serenity made me go back and do so while turning me into a bona-fide Nathan Fillion fan. Thats how good Serenity was. The entire cast, especially the antagonist, was worth the watch. SO good. Scott Pilgrim is a great film as well. Plain and simple.

Matrix was not wanted, nor needed. On the other hand Dredd is spectacular, it’s a must watch for sure. I think Watchmen was great, too and doesn’t deserve hate from the fans of the comics.

A sequel should always be made because the creator(s) want to make it. Their passion is what drives the story and it works best when they explore the world they have created. Sequels made mostly because the box office was good will often rely on either doing the same thing like the first one did or do the opposite, like The Hangover franchise did.

Firefly was a show that missed out on a long and glorious life. Amazing amazing show.

I saw Gremlins 2 as a kid and loved it...I thought it was hilarious and i don't think I would've believed it was a failure at the the box office. I still love it today but I'm old enough to get the inside jokes and I think its the superior film.

Bladerunner was like Alien in Toronto. For years you went to the Cinesphere because IMAX wasn't around yet. Awesome way to discover some films

Dredd remake was AWESOME! I didn’t see it in theaters because the 1st Dredd was ok-so I didn’t help the box office. BUT! When I watched it on physical media, I was blown away! A missed opportunity seeing it in 3D. Most of these films on the list is right on-great films but missed in theaters.

I love how the video kept using the word "everyone" when most of these IP had cult audiences at best. LEGO movie 2 is the only one that truly matches the topic. No one asked for the Matrix nor Snakes on a Plane and the rest were always destined to have niche audiences.

Serenity was a terrific film and a decent ending to a tv series that was never given a decent chance to thrive....and trust me...it def would have thrived very very well...

Except for The Matrix: Resurrections... (which I streamed)... I, personally, saw EVERY one of these films in the theater. Don't blame me.

I think the common problem here is the "everyone". Though a large demanding noise is often made on the internet, the "real world" majority of a potential audience needed to get those BIG BUCKS, neither know nor care about a movie, and don't go unless either their favourite star is in it, or they're literally told to go by constant traditional media marketing.

Karl Urban was a perfect Dredd. He was also wonderful in Almost Human.

I found a DVD of Serenity at some store, bought it, watched and LOVED it. I dad no idea it was a series before that. Only months latter I was told that.

I still think Snyder did a great job with such a heavy (and timely/topical) story. I re-watch Watchmen every few months. I still find new details.

2049 I still can't believe opening night I was the only one in my Arizona theater loved the movie so sad modern audience can't sit and watch 3 hour slow burn

I loved "SIN CITY 2: A DAME TO DIE FOR"! I took my mate to see it at the flicks for his birthday. We both loved it.

I always liked the Sin City sequel, never understood why it had such a poor critical reception compared to the first one. Though I definitely preferred Clive Owen's portrayal of Dwight over Josh Brolin's (nothing against Brolin, he's an amazing actor who absolutely killed it in movies like No Country for Old Men and Sicario, I just enjoyed Owen's portrayal in Sin City more)

Firefly still hurts... And DREDD, oh Dredd. You were to good a movie for the average movie goer. We could use more hard R movie's like this.

I remember going to the movies (one of the few time) to see The Watchmen. Never read the book before. I was blown away by the graphics and the story.

If you never saw Dredd in 3D at the movies when it released you missed out bigtime, easily the best movie experience of my life.

Sometimes why a movie doesn't do well is because there's too much competition out there even with a huge franchise, people only have limited time or funds to watch them, and a movies Box Office failure doesn't mean it's a bad movie, that's a matter of opinion.

Scott Pilgrim is a masterclass of using cinematic language, an absolute gem of a movie. Everyone should see it. Or at least the Cinemawins analysis.

“Blade Runner 2049” was a worthy sequel to its predecessor. I had a great job watching it & spotting all the homages to the original in certain shots and the themes

I'm confused by the title. No one asked the Matrix Ressurections. I remember a lot of people being confused af when it was announced even going as far to say it would just be a cash grab. The trilogy was finished with the 3rd movie and they couldn't have expected it to catch on with audiences after 20 years. It's a whole new crowd and with advances in technology, they didn't really do much to revolutionize things like they did back then. It was just a generic action movie.

Dredd was a fantastic movie one of my all-time favorites. I didn't even really like the comic book but I'd love that movie. Sylvester Stallone turned it into a cheese ball and if Hollywood takes too long to turn something around into something good people lose interest no matter how much they like the concept.

I didn't even realise they made a sequel to Sin City. I loved the first one and kept an eye out for the next one....and then just assumed it wasn't gonna happen and stopped thinking about it.

Dredd is a fantastic film. And the Watchmen series can't really be compared to the film. It's in the same universe but deals with different subjects. It's like comparing an Avengers film to a Marvel Netflix series. (I loved the Watchmen series; the film not so much.)

Went to see Lego Movie the 2nd part for my stepson’s birthday. It was the first time going to the theater for him. Loved it so much!

I've seen all of these. Some of them were really good, others tanked. The reason why no one saw those is because just by the trailers or premise, they could tell it would suck and didn't want to ruin the good memory.

I've seen most of these movies but you're right, not in theatres. It would be good to see the demographics for this time period. Some movies came before boomers, like me, had kids. So we saw the movie in the theatres. Then when kids came along, we sent to less theatres and starting renting/buying movies much more. So instead of 4 movie tickets, you had one rental and 4 people watching, often with other people visiting and watching too. When the kids were pre-teens and early teens we tended to go back to the theatres for the speciality movies (like LOTR trilogy) but then streaming came along and it was easier to stay at home. (And of the course the large number of illegal downloads.) I wasn't going to movies due to covid and had planned to return to the theatres when the virus lessened (slightly) and when the new Matrix movie came out. The virus didn't let up so like many movies of the previous two years, I didn't go. I decided to wait and watch it at home. If it weren't for the pandemic, I would have seen that in the theatres regardless of the reviews. As it is, the movie is not as bad as reviews portray it to be and certainly no worse than the third movie in the trilogy. So examining demographics and viewing trends more closely might be a better way of looking at numbers then simplistically saying "nobody watched". Last note and it doesn't help budgets or getting movies made but buying movies does result in many more people ultimately seeing a movie than any official figures allow for. For example I really enjoy THE BIG YEAR which didn't do well at the box office. And I understand why. But I know I've shown the movie to maybe 20 people over the years who had never seen it. I know I'm not alone. It would be nice to have a true sense of how many people actually saw a film.

Honestly, I loved the Lego movie 2 XD The sibling vs sibling message and themes of changing your self image to be respected by those around you hit incredibly hard for me personally.

Its the time it took to release. Fans want it. 5-10 years later....

I did see Blade Runner 2049 in theaters. It was good, but my favorite part was the finale. That scene really made the the movie for me.

Gremlins 2 was in a different genre. I prefer it to the original , but that genre change was not expected by many, and turned many off.

I hope this doesn't happen to Kill Bill 3 if Quinton decides to follow up on The Bride / Beatrix Kiddo (Black Mamba) and her daughter BB.

I dont know anyone personally that thought we needed another Matrix sequel. The original one is genuinely one of my favorite movies ever, the second one was watchable and the third one had about 10 minutes of watchable footage. I have yet to see the 4th obvious cash grab....and I likely wont. If I have an itch for matrix content Ill just go watch the original.

I've seen all of these & Serenity would be in my top ten films of all times. I also love Sin City 2 although I agree it's not a patch on the first one.

I used to love going to the theater to see a movie, I even bought over priced snacks (because I knew that was how the theater made money...not from the films). I basically quit going to the theater because people not knowing how to behave in public. Side bar: only in Hollywood would a project that makes double it's cost be considered a flop.

Also, it's probably worth mentioning the sheer number of Lego themed video games, straight to DVD movies, etc. I'd say by the time the Lego sequel came out, there was already a lot of franchise fatigue.

For as MUCH and I LOVE "Fire Fly" I have the box set and watched it many times over the years. I don't know way I just never loved "Serenity". I bought the DVD used, watched it once years ago, and haven't opened up the case since then.

I imagine a big issue with a lot of these is that they're more "nerd culture" films than they are big budget family friendly things (not all obviously since Lego Movie 2 is on here). I, and many "nerd culture" peeps I imagine as well, have no real desire to go to the theater and deal with stupid expensive snacks and some asshole texting on their phone two rows ahead and the high as hell dude laughing at everything in the back. A $20+ evening for one with none of the conveniences of home like being able to pause to hit the bathroom or get a $1 box of candy that the theater wanted to charge me $5 for isn't something many niche audiences have any desire to deal with. The vast majority of these movies I did end up seeing...once they came out on DVD/BluRay/Streaming

Sometimes a blockbuster is a magnificent one-night stand, it's a glorious unforgettable night of passion which stands alone in time and should never be revisited. I think this extends from Jaws to Gremlins to Blade Runner and may prove true of Avatar.

I liked Sin City 2 but they left it too long after the first film was released for a sequel.

I actually enjoyed "Sin City: A dame to kill for" much more than the first.

I just rewatched Watchmen and still great. I saw it in theaters at a midnight showing with my bf at the time(now hubby) and runtime was too long. The rest I've either have seen but don't want to rewatch(Matrix 4 and Sin City 2 was meh after being a fan of the original) or never saw it, Lego 2.

Gremlins 2 failed because THEY CHANGED ALL THE RULES... DUH

I loved The Matrix Resurrections and absolutely hated (I never use that word) Spider-Man No Way Home. Resurrections simply goes in a new, far deeper direction then simply a kung fu action film (although Neo does say "I still know Kung Fu!") The exploration of the mind and soul is where this movie was going. As for No Way Home, that movie was simply fan service of the poorest form - simply awful.

NOBODY wanted Matrix 4. After 2 and 3 were already bad enough, the fact that the Wachowskis hadn't made a good movie in over a decade meant that everyone wanted the franchise to stay dead. Most of the reactions when Matrix 4 was announced were 'Who is this for?'

What the MCU understands but apparently no one else does - there are not many actual “comic book” fans. You can’t make a movie FOR comic book fans and expect it to do well.

I've since become a big fan of Firefly, but I had never seen it and had no idea it was related to Serenity until nearly a decade after I first saw the movie!

Two things about Gremlins 2: 1) The only people who "wanted" it were WB executives. They basically ordered Joe Dante & co. to make something; they didn't really care what. So they decided to have a little fun with it, which brings us to: 2) I think most people just plain didn't get what the sequel was going for. It wasn't a serious attempt to recreate the sensation that was the original. It was sort of a general showbiz satire, including a healthy dose of self-satire, without becoming an outright spoof movie. When watched in the right frame of mind, Gremlins 2 is a very enjoyable movie.

While I have seen every movie on this list, and I can agree with almost all of the arguments within, there is one I cannot. The number 1 movie, the matrix rebootquel had another reason working against it. It’s the same issue being encountered by the MCU and Star Wars, and I’m not talking about fatigue. It’s the politics and liberal agenda contained within the movie that is very off-putting. I truly wish the entertainment industry would realize that when people go see a movie that they don’t want to be inundated by the politics they see in everyday life. They want the escapism. They want to go into it looking forward to seeing a new world, a fresh idea, or a great story without and ulterior motive. I so wanted to like it, but there were so many reasons not to. And to top it off, you take an idea like “the one” and extend it to trinity, which not only lessens the value of neo, but pushes forward the idea that we’re all equal, which is not reality!

I saw 7 of them in the cinema in their opening week. I raved about Dredd to my friends, but the scars from the Judge Dredd movie prevented them from giving it a go.

That is actually sad for filmmakers for making movies that audiences wants, but not interested at the last moment.

Dredd was one of those rare exceptions I make now adays in the theaters. Good flick!!
