I like to imagine for Vaggie that her singing voice is her being her true self, and the more deeper depressed voice tone is more so her having a shield up constantly, even with Charlie so she is well, her armor. To act the bravest and strongest so no one should get at them. It isn’t news that she hates herself and would self loathe, so it is also just, her mood with that voice she has around people. But being alone and singing her heart out about Charlie is her time to be soft and true, sure she could be true to herself all the time, but the different voice feels like the soft feelings she has is more so what she is really like. Honestly my best comparison is Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica. Her natural voice is more higher and even a little bit squeaky and quiet, she was shy af. But put some time loops and trauma, she puts on a more darker persona to not be messed with, so other magical girls see she isn’t someone to push around, yet in some scenes mostly around Madoka, her voice loses that deep and precise voice she uses, almost like a mix of her when she was meek, yet with others she quickly goes back to that serious tone and face, even if she was literally crying like 2 seconds ago. Also, I know it’s most likely because the VA’s singing range is suited better like this, but I like to imagine it that way. Also THE SONG IS SO SLEPT ON! ❤

I like this interperetation! I really think Vaggie has a sweet and sensitive heart, but her life has been rough and she's had to put up an emotional wall to protect herself. But deep down she's a compassionate idealist like Charlie. They share core values and they bring out the best on one another.

A lot of people are complaining her voice isn’t low enough in this song but I think dropping the character voice was the bet choice. Vaggies voice isn’t her natural range so singing in that range would strain her vocals and not sound good.

It's different from her normal voice because she acts tough and doesn't let her emotions be shown (in this very episode she says she was taught in a very violent environment). So when she sings, her voice is not tough but sweet, because she is letting it out. For me, perfect casting choice

Definitely a lot of emotion in this song and Carmilla is right though that instigating more violence against the angels would likely only bring more death because we still don’t know exactly how she was actually able to succeed and that was just an Exorcist, not one of the seraphim like Sera.😥 I love Zestial and Carmilla’s friendship (or perhaps more 😉) since it shows that such Overlords like them aren’t completely cold hearted/evil.❤❤❤ I hope we get to hear Zestial sing more since I’m absolutely in love with James Monroe Iglehart’s voice.🥰🥰🥰🩷🩷🩷

I guess that Carmilla killed the angel was to protect her daughters, or somebody that is very important to her. That person is also someone she couldnt protect in her past live, possibly by her mistake to act/fight back - the reason why she didnt want blood "on my face". The part that really gets me, is Charlie sitting on her dads lap, ecstatic over his doings, when her mom comes and takes her. Lucifer giving her a reassuring smile that cracks into pure sadness the further Lilith takes her away. Utterly crushes me. I miss my daughter so much.

No one's talking about how amazing Vaggie's singing voice is. That's one gorgeous singing voice, and I rarely see characters/people who have a different singing voice than their talking voice

I swear I do like the actresses singing voice I’m not trying to hate on her. It’s just, when we get introduced to Vaggie her voice is kinda deep, but her singing voice sounds a bit too high. AGAIN, NOT HATING, it’s just something that I know I gotta get used to once I hear her sing more. Threw me off a bit when Vaggie started singing.

the actress’s natural range is much higher. She drops her pitch playing vaggie but to sing in that deep voice would strain her. And it wouldn’t sound good (happy day in hell)

Yeah it’s not necessarily her fault as singing in a character voice takes skill and a good range, for whatever reason she or the team gave up on her singing in a character voice here which SUCKS but whatever I guess. I’ll probably skip this song on my second viewing of the show 😅

Something i like is the relatively oposite poles that similar lyrics can take, let me explain: Carmilla is speaking about how she is willing to fight with all she could get to protect her daughters and Zestial Vaggie is basically having a breakdown cuz she can't/ doesnt know how to tell Charlie her biggest secret *AND THE LYRICS ARE ALMOST THE SAME-*

1:29 It took me a while to realize that this is foreshadowing that Vaggie is infact a fallen angel because she really did meet Charlie the day she was cast out of heaven and even though she had been going down yearly for extermination day, she had just started LIVING in hell.

The lines in this song are so powerful, the music really shows more than words can ever tell. The VAs really shine in these moments. I liked seeing a bit more about how Vaggie feels regarding everything. It was such a given that she's with Charlie and supports her no matter what, but hearing her declare how she feels in song really brought her character home for me I think the behavior between Carmilla and Zestial truly shows the difference between the elder Overlords and the new ones. New Overlords like the Vs are impulsive, power hungry, and selfish. The older Overlords are cautious, content, and tend to have more caring personal relationships.

I'm in love with this song. So beautiful, sometimes having compassion, honor comes from unexpected places. I love Hazbin Hotel. It makes one realize nothing is cut and dry . . . Good vs Evil. Sometimes it's not a question of what side you're on, but doing what's right even though what you do is ruled wrong. But, when having compassion for those that can't fight back, an inner compass kicks in, and fighting for what's really right may put you on the other side. 🦇🖤🦇🤘

For those wondering why Vaggie's singing voice sounds so different than when she talks, it's not because it's a different person singing. It's very much the same voice actress. Her name is Stephanie Beatrix, and when she plays more badass characters, she puts on a deeper voice to sound more intimidating. You can see it in her role as Rosa from B99, it sounds similar to how Vaggie speaks. However, Stephanie's natural voice is higher pitched and you can hear it come out more when she sings. Her role as Mirabel from Encanto sounds similar when she speaks and sings there as when she sings here.
