Timeships require spaceships. Without that, you either end up embedded smoewhere in the planet or, more likely, end up in outer space: The planet we're on doesn't just rotate, but revolves around our star - and that star, in turn, has its own orbit.

@@DanimalUpchurch If you're jumping between two different points in time, you're not going to be moving with anything. Your'e going to come out at the precise same spatial point. If it's, instead, remaining in place, but speeding up or reversing time, that's different. 'The Time Machine' portrayed that, although I honestly don't know how accuratet hat was to the original story. It woudl also have the dissadvantage of needing to be moved to a completely different location, in order to reverse time. Otherwise, it would just be physically merge with itself (and pilot).

Even if you could physically travel through time, you'd end up in the middle of nowhere. If your position in the universe stays the same, the planet, system, and galaxy would all be in a different position from you.

You would be floating dead in space because the Earth would be REALLY far away from you as it's traveling through space and time as well.. If you went back or forward in time for just 1 second you would be 18.5 miles away from where you were just standing.
@SaintedFish
@SaintedFish 7 ай бұрын
I agree!!
@anonymous2065
@anonymous2065 7 ай бұрын
Actually you'd be a hella lot further away than 18.5 miles in 1second. Remember the earth rotates once every 24hours which is about 1000mph at the equator,The planet orbits our star (The Sun), our Star orbits our galactic centre (Sagittarius A*) in our galaxy, and the galaxy is moving through interstellar space, plus the fabric of space-time itself is rapidly expanding. So if you do a back of the envelope calculation it would be a massive distance. Just saying. You're welcome. Have a great day...
@lknanml
@lknanml 7 ай бұрын
@@anonymous2065 The Earth is moving at 67,000 miles per hour (avg) taking into account it's rotation (spiraling counterclockwise) with the equator being roughly the "front" and "back" as the direction of travel in a line.. My calculations were correct. In 1 sec you would be 18.5 miles from your starting point. Depending on where you were on earth you could be inside it. I don't care what's outside or galaxy. Humans will never leave it or visit another galaxy. Although it's moving at about 1 to 1.5 million MPH and depending which point you chose you could be going fast or slower than that as it spins. Although I did make one error. Technically we will "travel" to the Andromeda galaxy in about 4.5 billion years when our galaxy collides with it... That's about the same time the Earth will be destroyed though as our sun becomes a Red Giant then collapse into a white dwarf until it cools into a black dwarf.....

Genuinely asking - why are you assuming languages will change so much they'll be unrecognizable? We've had the current languages for 1400-1900 years (it varies from language to language) and they haven't changed to the point where we can't understand old texts. Plus, present day Greeks can still understand ancient Greek, speakers of Romance languages can still understand quite a bit of Latin without studying it. Why do you think this will change?
@vivjames1357
@vivjames1357 7 ай бұрын
@HorrorSFManiac it's not an assumption English speaking people of current times couldn't understand or converse in old English of 400 or more years ago now, language mutation is very much a real thing, after living a few decades you will observe this mutation even within your own lifetime 😊
@HorrorSFManiac
@HorrorSFManiac 7 ай бұрын
That's an exaggeration, people still understand Shakespeare, those plays are more than 400 years old. And English is one language, it doesn't justify saying that none of today's languages will be understood, again look up present day Greeks still understanding ancient Greek enough to get the general meaning of a text in many cases, Norwegians and Swedes understand Old Norse in a similar way, and speakers of Romance languages understanding Latin in a similar way. Yes, languages change, some words become archaic in just a few decades, but speakers of many different languages can still get the general meaning of texts from 2000 years ago. @@vivjames1357

Interesting stuff. If you wanna see more in-depth takes on some of this, I would recommend melodysheep's "Timelapse of the Future" (spoiler: it stops being about Earth, specifically's, future only THREE MINUTES IN to an almost half-hour video) and that one weird what-if documentary (?) from a while ago, the one that was about "What if the Sun started going through its life-cycle really quickly right now, in modern day?" (snaps fingers) "Swallowed by the Sun", that's it. I think some footage here might even be from that, I'm not sure. Anyway, good stuff, both of those.
