Pete was cheated on by several women so he used it as his inspiration for music. He has many other songs that are actually very loving towards women. Love You To Death, Haunted, Be My Druidess, etc

Peter Steele was cheated by several woman? Hahaha Come on! Don't get me wrong, TON is my all time favorite band, and I am a huge fan of Peter Steele, but the guy is not a saint. Just read "Soul on Fire" his biography by Jeff Wagner and you will see who was the cheater. The guy enjoyed his rock star life style, he had a lot of women on the road.

@@PEMAMETAL It was both ways: Peter was a terrible bastard regarding his relationships with women (though not an abuser in any way, off course) but some of them were neither faithful and I'm quite sure some swore -it tends to happen an effing lot- to him they didn't mind his Donjuanism at all (maybe believing they'd make him change?) and/or they'd be with him forever, no matter what.

Great reaction!! Been a Type O fan for many many years (since 1993) and they are a band that expresses a myriad of emotions in their music and aren't afraid to explore their dark side along with their sense of humor. This song touches on anger, grief, depression and humor. That's what I love about Type O---there's a lot more going on than what's on the surface. :)

I'm a woman, this is my favorite Type O Negative song. Yeah it's a little misogynistic, but this was written a long time ago by a man that was hurt and had misplaced anger. There are so many beautiful parts of this song. This part "Done it before time after time, refused to learn your lesson" and the rest of that part with the organs is one of my favorite moments in any song ever. The entire song is like a massive epic.. just beautiful.

What you said about hate not being the end stage of depression, I see this as a concept album. Most of the songs (except for the second one) form an almost cohesive story, so this would be the first part, where he finds out she's cheating, then Xero Tolerance and Prelude to Agony are his response, and everything after that is the aftermath.

"Do you believe in forever? I don't even believe in tomorrow." Words to live by. This was from their Debut album, Slow, Deep and Hard. Prior to Type'O, Peter had a Thrash Metal band named Carnivore, whom which he made two LPs before disbanding. As a result, this song and the rest of the album sounds like an hybrid of Sabbath and Metallica. Also, i appreciate that you like the tongue-in-cheek approach of their songs. They may be gloomy as hell but didn't took themselves seriously For me, this is THE infidelity song. If Taylor Swift made 10-plus minutes songs full of screamed vocals, distorted guitars and bass and moaning sounds about all the boys that allegedly cheated on her, maybe i'd listen to her music more often.

Always thought this song reflected both the disappointment and sorrow of the discover of being cheated on and the humorous side of being in the doghouse as you feel stupid for your blindness the whole time. So it's really a T.O.N anthem defining their whole style : emotional elevator trip, razor sharp and genuinely witty lyrics, broody humour and musical exotism bits sprinkled into crossover metal. T.O.N is definitely a band you don't only listen, you feel all the weight of their songs just as if you're experiencing the stories they narrate. Thanks for your vid, it's a band a lot more people should dig into if they are smart enough to dive deep into it. And of course, RIP Peter.

Female checking in here. I laugh at this song too. And it actually did help me stand up for myself in my relationships. I think as a woman, I often completely skip the step of anger when it comes to expressing myself and immediately fall into deep sadness. When in reality, anger is needed to assert strong boundaries and a healthy reaction to have to things like this. He spent 10 years fighting for the love of this woman who just kept cheating on him. I think he really betrayed himself there and it probably contributed to the rapid decline of his mental state. This song and Blood and Fire are huge "don't do what I did" type of songs for me and also why I feel such a connection with Steele as an artist. I've never heard such raw lyrics before. That part where his scream pierces the moaning and also YOU MAKE ME HATE MYSEEEELF just hit me in my core and I knew he understood exactly what I was going through. Now onto your analysis: First, your face when those drums kick in was EXACTLY my reaction. My personal take on the slow versus fast parts were the slow parts symbolized the anguish and long term grief of being cheated on versus the intense rage that also occurs. But I think with the moaning part, your initial interpretation could definitely be more on point. I always thought the organs were thrown in just because he was the Goth King, but it's not like he has organs in every song, so I can definitely see what you mean there and that has added another layer for me to appreciate to this song. Overall, I was so pleased to see your reaction. I absolutely love this song but it doesn't get nearly as much attention as others and I wish it did. With regards to your question at the end, I do get offered sex more often but I have also never cheated. Unfortunately, if you're with an insecure man this can result in resentment building up. The resentment and insecurity building up can become a deal-breaker when it ends in self-sabotaging actions on their end. Ironically, their own insecurity ends up becoming the nail in the coffin when they thought me being offered sex more often was what was going to end the relationship.

First heard them early 90s when i was a teen thrash head. Today that i am 47, i find this one to be their most important track. And it's from their best cd. Carnivore also rocked hard! Pete was "unique". Disagreed with him in some issues, his sense of irony was versatile and difficult, but he was a genius and his art is sublime.

To answer your question. I think the fear of being cheated on comes from the attention received by your significant other and vise versa. Obviously, it's easier for woman to get laid than men but I think cheating stems from lack of attention. Though some people just love that attention. A super attractive woman clearly gets more of that attention and would cause a man to lose his shit and be more prone to be insecure which can cause tension in a relationship that leads to breaking up. Relationships are just scary because you never know where they're going to go and trying to control it is impossible. We choose who gets to hurt us. So we can live in fear and never love again or wall up our heart and just jump in. I've had to start over twice and having been solo for 2 years makes me anxious meeting someone knew especially with kids. I don't even know where this is going now lol. I guess I'm rambling but I hope it have some insight to your question. Great video man!

Been getting into Type O recently, and once I stumbled upon this song I found it hilarious also. By watching some interviews of the band (and of Mr. Steele specifically), I understand he wrote the song from a place of disappointment, anger and pain, but still, it's hilarious. "Slut! Whore! Cunt!", and that part of "freelance gynecology" just kill me lol And also when the band backs him up, confirming they know that he knows that whatever chick he was with is indeed fucking somebody else lol A song everybody can relate to at some degree or another.

I saw Type O at Milwaukee Metalfest '94, I believe. I was watching Korn (before they were big, thinking this is awful) and this dude with spiked boots and gauntlets is standing next to me. I look over and he has an O- tattoo thinking this dude looks important. It was Johnny Kelly, their drummer. I talked to him between Korn and Fear Factory sets. Shortly after Fear Factory took the stage this giant dude comes over to him, whispers in his ear. It was Pete Steele! They said they would come back out to talk after their set. Great set! During their last song they launched about 1000 rolls of Type O toilet paper into the crowd. True to his word they did come back out after their set. They invited us to their hotel across the street to party. Pete was hillarious. Dude definitely does not take himself too seriously. I asked him about this song. I couldn't tell if he was pulling our legs or not but it sounded legit. He said when he was originally offered to do a Playgirl pictorial he didn't want to do it, but his girlfriend at the time convinced him to do it. After he did the photo shoot, she got really jealous and kept accusing him of cheating. Girls were mailing him panties and nudes of themselves. He wasn't trying to be a dick about it but he reminded her that she was the one that pushed him to do it. The accusation just kept coming and it started to piss him off. A roadie told him he saw her getting friendly with a very famous musician that would remain nameless. So he told the roadie to keep a camera with him and check her out, and took a pic of her giving this famous musician head. That is the inspiration for this song according to Pete, R.I.P.
