Hi Dave, recent subscriber here. I love the enthusiasm you bring to your reviews but even more appreciate the intelligent and thoughtful commentary you provide; I always seem to learn some new little tidbit of info. Dan is becoming one of my favourite artists too and I've been binging his channel. I find his range impressive and I like that his metal covers can surprise me. I also appreciate that he is open to performing other music genres and does those really well too.

It's things like this that make me so proud of my Heritage! I am a Bergan (family changed the e to an a when they came to America) that hails from Bergen Norway! Yea Scandinavians did some pretty messed up things just like everyone else but they knew how to command a room with intimidation and power!

If you’re into Viking music, you gotta try Heilung. Check out Hamrer Hippyer, Alfadhirhaiti, or In Maidjan from their LIFA show. I ain’t gonna leave you alone till you do, bro. 🤣

I don’t think you can get more of a metal people group than the Vikings. Also, the whole “Gaelic” thing? You mean Celtic; Gaelic is just a language. But think about it UK is an island conglomerate. Ships for days. People created the shanties were to help sailors work with stamina. I’m a Newfoundlander so we still sing them a lot, like on the radio and everything, because most of us still have jobs relating to the ocean. Listen to Derina Harvey Band sing The Last Shanty and you’ll get the vibe. My generation is updating the traditional songs, making them more hard, but the melodies and words are the same. (Edit: Funny note for gamers out there. In Assasins Creed Black Flag, I knew 90% of the shanties your character and your crew sings without any prompting. Me and my husband and friends cracked up at it and would say that Assasins Creed Black flag should be called Assasins Creed Newfie Kitchen Party, lol)
