So when I went into labor with my son I definitely overpacked. The hospital did supply most of the diapers and wipes and the things we need but definitely bring things to entertain yourselves and also for your self care after giving birth🥰🥰 Just a little advice.

Recommendation!!!: My husband and I just had our first 2 months ago. We just brought like 2 onesies and his going home outfit- we needed so much more!!! Blowouts/spitting up happen so much! The blowouts are also pretty nasty with the black tar-ish poop! You also never know how long you’ll be in the hospital, depending if there’s any complications. I would recommend bringing at least 6 onesies plus a going home outfit! If you don’t use them all that’s okay, but it’s good to have too many rather than not enough! So excited for you all, praying for a healthy birth!! (Also having an epidural made my birth experience so amazing, I loved it! Hope your experience is great!)

I totally understand wanting to pack light however keep in mind delivery is unpredictable and you could end up staying longer then anticipated! If your hospital doesn’t have pumps you may want to bring your own to help bring in your milk, i would also recommend packing an extra long charger, a cup with a straw and a nursing pillow. I personally would recommend bringing a darker towel as you’ll most likely be bleeding however that’s obviously a personal choice. ☺️

L&D nurse here 👶💓!! You should leave all the postpartum things at home!!! Ask your doctor what the hospital has so you dont have to bring your nice stuff and you can save that for at home, and also save some room in your bag for other things :) At my hospital for example, we provide nipple butter/cream (lanolin), peri ice-pads, nursing pads, peri-bottles, witch hazel tucks, dermoplast spray, etc. You can definitely bring whatever you want to the hospital, you don't have to use our stuff, but I always tell my moms to use the "free stuff" (definitely not free when you see the hospital fee) so you can use your nicer stuff at home. We will give you whatever you need and LOTS of it. I would also say if you are planning on pumping before delivery that you should save all your colostrum and bring it with you! It can be especially helpful if your babe doesn't latch right away so we (your nurses) can start helping you get her supplemented with some colostrum. The haakaa brand has some colostrum collectors that a lot of moms bring with them where I work, or you can get some cheaper breastmilk syringes.

Also, if it turns out that you may have back labor which is what happens when the baby’s head is obviously down where it should be but her *face* is facing down vs up & therefore her spine will be up against yours in utero, it’s much stronger pressure than regular “contractions.” I had back labor with all 4 of my kids. Tip: in case the bathroom in your hospital room doesn’t have a shower (some hospitals have shower rooms down the hall) & if your doctor won’t let you walk during beginning labor you *must* pack an empty liter size seltzer bottle to be able to fill it with *hot* water which seriously amazingly relieves the pressure! It won’t burn you Katie so Josh or if another family member is with you guys Josh & whomever can take turns pressing the bottle against your *lower back* which is where you feel it- to help relieve the pressure! It really works & is really helpful!! My labor teacher emphasized that detail 20 years ago when I was pregnant with my 19 year old son & my friend did it for me as my labor coach (I was too nervous to have my husband in the room so he was in the waiting area doing prayers- my first kid labor started 5am but we only needed to leave 9am ish to hospital & he was praying for us). Also if you can get a hold of a book or look up online about Hypno-birthing- it’s not Hypnosis. It’s a different school of thought that renames contraction as “pressure” etc. It’s more positive & there’s different methods types of imagery you could use to help with good vibes while you are birthing. I did it with my 3rd & youngest. Great stuff!!

Y’all should buy cute little baby sunglasses since it’s always so sunny out there! Also Katie, for your postpartum bag, you should add lidocaine spray. A good brand is Lansinoh. I have never had a baby but both my sister in laws used it and it’s usually highly suggested! Anywho, hope it helps and I am soooo excited and happy for you guys!! 🧡🧡

It’s better to overpack than under pack. You need swaddles for baby girl, some pacifiers and SOME COCONUT OIL FOR BABYS BOTTOM. Baby’s first poop isn’t really poop. It’s sticky so if you put coconut oil on baby’s cheeks, it will be much easier to wipe off and hurt baby girl less. Also, watch videos on what pregnant L&D nurses bring with them to the hospital. Maybe Reels, Shorts, or Tic Tocs.

I have 4 kids & my youngest was born in middle of the night @ 1:10 am! If you give birth in middle of the night it’ll be likely well after dinner is served. Unfortunately, many hospitals don’t make exceptions (kitchen closes after a certain hour). Bring water bottles for drinking or a few gallon bottles of water & nonperishable healthy snacks, ie fruits, granola bar, etc. Also for things like single serve Greek yogurt, baby carrots etc. to keep in a large insulated lunch bag & have ready mini freezer packs in your home fridge freezer for that kind of stuff ready to just throw in right before you leave the house. Hope you guys have 24 supermarkets out there in Arizona! If that’s an option, & there’s G-d willing one not too far from the hospital- Josh as a good husband & dad you could also, run out (obviously this is after your daughter is born) to the closest supermarket to get back up food supplies 😊 I didn’t get to do the water thing. But I pretty much did the other stuff. We’re really excited for you guys!

I am due with my 4th baby in December! And what I really liked was hard candy to suck on to help with cotton mouth/dryness from the hospital. And chapstick can never have enough I don’t know if it’s every hospital or just mind but the hospital is so stuffy and drying. I also really like the after ease drops they help a lot with contractions you get after the baby! 🤍 wish you guys nothing but the best and the safest delivery & a healthy baby girl!

This is what my husband and I brought. Note: We only stayed one night then went home. Also have 4 kids (every labor was different but still went home the next day. I like my own bed and getting my kids into a routine at home that works for our medium sized family) Husband brought his gaming laptop, chargers, and change of clothes. Pillow & blanket. I brought a robe, nursing bra, baggy sweats, slippers, a pillow, camera, couple outfits size preemie -newborn. (Good thing I brought preemie size with because 3 out of the 4 came home with preemie - only fit for a week-two weeks) Then a normal diaper bag. A few diapers and wipes otherwise the hospital gots all the stuff you need for the baby.

I would recommend no white stuff. It can easily get stained and hospital stuff is white. The nurses might accidently take it when changing the bed. Blanket for Josh, snacks, or packaged treats if cafeteria is closed or meals take to long. I heard coconut oil on fresh born baby butt might make first poop (sticky and black) easier to wipe. Medium pack of wipes because my hospital you had to wet their wipes. Cheap sandals because I am not a fan of grippy socks. For me the long spray arm on Fredia mom bottle would spin not helpful for accurate spray. I hope labor, delivery, and recovery go well!

My husabnd and I could not figure out how to swaddle tight enough with the blankets so we brought a zipper swaddle, saved us so much time! There are clothes for the baby at the hospital, but zipper onesies are more comfy and easier, so I recommend 2-3 of those! Bring water bottles too!

No scents around baby, no candles, if u have plug ins also unplug them. Yes, I feel like ur guys bag has been the smallest I seen. I didn't go full term but I have seen a lot is ur body pillow, button up shirts for the breast feeding and for baby a blanket to cover the carseat.

Katie, you’re doing your pregnancy so well and I’m proud of you and Josh keep up the good thinking, knowing that those batteries on the camera can drain out and go dead. You might want to check them every so often.
