Today we take our V8 Miata into Kananaskis country and put it to the test! A great reminder of why we put big engines in little cars! This 327 Small block Chevy sounds so good, and makes a truly amazing driving machine.

I was half expecting to see under the hood. You say it's a 327 small block? I've seen some LS swapped Miatas...Monster Miata in Palisades CO makes the kits.... but I guess it really doesn't matter whether you stick a old-school small block or an LS into it. Looks nice and sounds great. Speaking of sounds, ditch the Morning Light stuff. We want to hear the car..!!

It’s baffling to me that so many people will use the phrase “it still feels like a Miata” after crazy extensive mods to their Miata (like one awd rally Miata on KZfaq) , but at least you gave more explanation to why you use that term. Also, what’s your suspension and tire setup? I’m on stock wheels on my ‘91 Miata with a moderate turbo (FMs voodoo II) and it’s very easy to lose traction if I wind out the throttle. And I can’t be making more than 200hp.
@slightlyMADcustoms
@slightlyMADcustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Running 225/50/15 proxie 4s’s which are very big sticky tires for a Miata, also I went down to a 3:08 rear end ratio which really prevents losing traction too! And running BC racing coils and E36 front sway bar.

This is probably a stupid question, but I’ve always really wanted to make something like this, a build between a sleeper and something flashier, but never knew where to start and never knew if I’d have the adequate money. How cheaply and how easily could I do something like this? Would it be plausible to learn as I go, or is a project like this something you need a lot of experience for?
@slightlyMADcustoms
@slightlyMADcustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Never a stupid question! It’s definitely something you can learn as you go, just make sure to learn how and where to ask for help! Facebook car groups and other car guys are usually a wealth of knowledge to help for any project you want to do. And I’d say you can build something really fun between 15000-25000 just based on what you want. We have a whole price breakdown and swap guide that covers all the basics on our channel if you want to take a look at that, and if you want more info just send me a DM on Instagram @lowla_smc !

help me out if im missing something but i found a na miata $1500, Ls1, Ls3 or Lt3 $2000, rear end $400, drive shaft, $500-700, ECU $500, sub frame $500. lets ignore suspension and stuff like that for now, i feel like for around $4500-6000 its not unreasonable to put but engine in little car.
@slightlyMADcustoms
@slightlyMADcustoms 3 жыл бұрын
It's all the little stuff that adds up. You cant just use any radiator, any transmission, any exhaust manifolds, any oil pan, and you certainly cant get an LS rated rear end in a miata for $400. Did you watch our LS miata cost video? It goes over every item you need for the swap and the cost! If you still have more questions after that video let me know! Happy to help you where I can
@sicksohseven
@sicksohseven 3 жыл бұрын
@@slightlyMADcustoms I appreciate it man. I'll head over and watch.i like projects where you see just how cheap you can be but still go fast. Im not so much worried about the transmission as I actually have a 4l60e laying around, and most likely the doner car/truck would have one as well. Exhaust manifold is as simple as some pie cuts here and there. Now the rear end you're probably right I can get a ford 8.8 for around $400 but I didn't even think about mounting and axles so I'll just call it $1500-2000. I only asked because I keep seeing people say $20000 but from what I can tell that's to make it reliable, look good and handle better. I'm going to look at a couple of clapped miatas this week but I'll definitely hit you up when I start the swap if I get stuck.
@slightlyMADcustoms
@slightlyMADcustoms 3 жыл бұрын
No problem! Yeah the common thing is that even if you do it “cheap” for around 10-15k including the Miata purchase price, you now have a car that you really like that’s almost perfect and the spending doesn’t stop hahaha. Usually once you have that much money into a Miata now you’re dying to spend another 5k on new wheels, tires, suspension, etc.

For a V8 swapped Miata you have to replace the whole drivetrain. None of the stock stuff can handle all that torque. You need a stronger transmission such as the TKO or T56, a upgraded driveshaft, a Ford 8.8 differential, as well as upgraded heavy duty axles.

Ours is a bit of a different flavour with the SBC in there. With the right supporting mode and gearing you could definitely make it crazy. All depends on what you want. Turbo LS would be terrifying 😂

Did you dislike them because of the weight gain? I was worried about that when I found mine for sale. Long story short. I bought a 94 ls2 Miata with the intentions of selling my stock 94 NA8. I love the ls2 Miata so much & you don’t feel the minimum weight gain much at all since it stayed extremely balanced. I couldn’t sell the stock NA8 though, driving a slow car fast is perfect for the street. I’ve found that stock & in v8 form the chassy is a freakin blast! I must own both for the rest of my life!

@@slightlyMADcustoms I drive a 530HP Cobra, girl....so I doubt that you have a Civic that's faster. We want to see the acceleration of the car going down the road to experience its performance; you don't get that from a drone footage nor your goofy face ho'ing for the camera.

And props to you for this Miata being your own project car ...which I just found out by actually watching the beginning.

Ya not feeling the love lol. You’re right we could have filmed out the windshield there. There was one shot where the camera was mounted on the trunk facing forward which was sorta what you were after. Next summer we’ll get more front facing footage for you. The thinking was while he’s talking and explaining, we film him talking. That’s what feels most natural for people to watch.

Thanks for th review, friends. Why did you not "give us a ride in the Miata," by offering a whole lot more passenger seat view, instead of constantly focusing on the driver? Your commentary is fine, but we came here to look at the car, not the driver. The views from the drone & camera vehicle were a great edition, but unless your purpose is to use this clip as an audition, you missed your mark. No? Then put a stopwatch on the camera shots. This clip features the driver talking about a car he is driving. Please take this as constructive criticism, because, you can do much better. May subscribe & share later, if you focus on the automobile & it's features, which is what the subject of the clip is supposed to be about.
