I think the worst part of this is that "Robyn" is still a common spelling for that name. 😆 I'm not 100% sure, but I was under the impression that "Robyn" was used more often for girls, and "Robin" was traditionally used for boys. I could be mistaken, but either way, I don't think it could have caused that much of an issue. I mean, people would get "My name is Robyn with a Y", and any confusion would be cleared up pretty quickly, whereas, saying something like, "My name is Connur with a U" would result in people still not knowing how to spell it. Lol

That exists here on Guam. Or probably other Pacific Islands too. Because different types of islanders might have German, French, Spanish or British blood, but they also have Japanese or other Asian names from being colonized more recently or other relatives. So we have white dudes with names like Kenji and Yosuke. My name could be because my great grandfather was Japanese, but it's okay that it's not. 😂

I guess it never occurred to you that most "English" names have biblical and European origins and are still in use with their correct pronunciations, but it's the English speakers, who not only pronounce Latin letters they're written in wrong, they also absolutely will pronounce any name wrong, if a lot of Americans have this wrong-spelled name. Hispanics are a lot better at this and actually call Maria, like most Marias across the world, Maria. Not Mehreay. Why would you, as an Asian, try to present your child to people with history of mostly doing you violence, with a name that they WILL NOT pronounce right, not even if you write it exactly in THEIR OWN Roman letters? The same people, who saw Commedia Dell'arte characters from ITALY and just copypasted it with greasepaint as "yup, that's a clown, wahey, hyuk hyuk" and later with black greasepaint, JUST to be racist? And with that same racism, YOU sneer at a white person who might be Kentaro. If you see an Asian Sebastian, well, at least he cowtows to your culture by being a Sebastian. If you can check out Baccano and Durarara, you might find that Asians, not that Japanese are the best example, are pretty OPEN with their naming conventions overall.

That's interesting! In Greece they're not considered to be unusual, especially Hermes, Dionisius and Ares. I suppose you wouldn't see them everyday, but it's common enough like Sean and Matthew. Personally I've known at least one Ares, Hermes, Aristotle, Athena, Artemis, Demeter, Apollon, Nike, Erato, Euterpe, Orpheus, Rhea, Alkmine, Cleopatra, Diogenes, Orestes and Dionisius, though interestingly enough never a Zeus, Poseidon or Hades XD

@@Heroism4499 I suppose, (though Dionisus was more than just the 'party god', and Dionysius is such a common name at this point that no one would raise an eyebrow) In Greece people are traditionally named after their grandparents, so chances are the kid was named after his grandpa and his great-great grandfather. Not an instance of parents trying to be quirky.
