Whats the BEST way? How to upscale images in Photoshop (Photos, Ai Art & Lineart)

Explore how to upscale images in Photoshop, while I workout which way is gets the best results. In this Photoshop tutorial, i will increase photo size, upscale midjourney images for print and enlarge an image of a drawing I made a few years ago.
Afterward you will know how to properly upscale a image like photos or AI Art (great also if you want to know how to upscale stable diffusion images, or Leonardo AI Images. Gigapixel is a total game changer. I've been upsizing MJ images x6 and printing them on canvas and acrylic wall art sized prints to 2m wide with zero image loss. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hello, im trying to upscale some anime wallpapers to have them printed in a3 size from a regular printer. Could u tell me what i could best do to do this? Shall I use image size and set it to a3 dimensions? or should i really go for gigapixel? i dont know what is appropraite for a3, since some of the wallpapers are already 4k, but some are really terrible screenshots (original wallpaper was deleted)

I spent lots of time with GigaPixel and i would absolutely go with this app most of the time. But SuperZoom did also a great job and i think i will try this method out from time to time. What keeps me so motivated to spend time with AI is the fact, that most of us cant imagine where this is going and whats possible in 1-2 years. Kinda creepy at some stage, but also fascinating. @Wade we talked about it in the comments from an older video... think back when you need to sharpen images with high pass filter, duplicating layers over layers, sharpen here, sharpen there blur mask there, clone stamp tool to get rid of unwanted pixels. these took hours and some days it took days to deliver good result or lemme say "acceptable results". Time is running so fast...

Im with you 100% there. Ive been working as a graphic designer for 20 years and the ability to do to good work without having to invest obscene amounts of time is amazing. You really can focus o your vision more. But yeah i find superzoom isnt bad but topaz is next level for sure. Imagine 5 years from now! Haha

Thanks, Wade for all your info, awesome. I have always sent all my works to the printers at 300dpi... 72dpi scares me, they look fine, so will try it!

Gigapixel changed the eye iris colour from green to brown.

I didn't notice! It is only a slight change tho, easily fixed with an adjustment layer - there's always some give and take with upscaling

all good, but 72dpi? you never mentioned dpi.

Dpi in bitmap images translates to pixels per inch - so a 3000x3000pixel image is 300dpi at 10x10inches printed - but the same.size image is 150 dpi at 20x20inches. I hope that makes sense. The reading isnt necessary and confuses people.

I’m confused how these are able to print well if they are still 72 dpi. Yeah they’re bigger but the resolution is still 72. I’m not understanding

Well if it helps, no image has a dpi reading without a print size to accompany it. It literally is 'dots per inch' or 'pixels per inch' really. A 300x300px image is 300dpi at 1x1 inch - but its 150dpi at 2x2inches. I hope that makes sense. The dpi measure attached to an image file is actually just confusing for most people. It comes down to pixel resolution and how many pixels an i.age equates to for every inch of print. I hope that helps

thanks - but gigapixel "invents" eyelashes where they aren supposed to be. other than that it seems best.

I didn't notice, but sometimes the AI does do weird stuff. It's still the best option, the newer recovery mode may fix that issue
