As someone who read these books as a pre-teen I can say they probably would've been more enjoyable at that age. Also the british accent killed me, it was great.🤣🤣🤣

The way I want to defend this series LMAO America’s behavior would be much more tolerable when you keep in mind that she was like 16-17 during the selection so immaturity isn’t really out of the window. I’m 20 going on 21 and I re-read the selection a few months ago and I still very much enjoyed it😭

I was a lot like America when I was 17. So even though she got on my nerves I could relate and put it down to immaturity. I still really enjoyed this series.

I read the books for the first time in August!! So interesting to hear your thoughts! I personally enjoyed it because they were super quick reads + got me out of a slump! But the sequels that follow were not it !! I hated them so much 😅

I am one of the few people I know who loves America Singer, she was relatable to me (EXCEPT the Aspen stuff) and her irrational actions were one of my favourite things, honestly.

I really liked that you did the video where half is not spoilers and the other half is spoilers, it made me able to hear enough to want to read the book then enjoy being able to come back once I’ve read it

I'm reading this book right now. I'd suggest reading it before the first 3 books. It's sort of back history for the series.

I read the first three in a little over 24 hours last august that I fell asleep at like 3 pm and woke up at like 12 am so disoriented but do not regret it. I finally read the last two this summer (haven’t read happily ever after but hopefully will soon). Wasn’t horrible but could’ve done without it.

i lvoes this series so much, it’s the books that got me into reading in middle school, BHT i don’t think being 20 i could read it again like i couldn’t reread cause i would lose my shit w anger

def was my favorite series when i was in middle school and got me to enjoy reading. i've reread it a couple times since then and i'm almost 20, so i get where ur coming from with rating cause i totally agree. the writing is trash but still a guilty pleasure read for me to this day if i want some comfort and cuteness. i personally didn't like the spinoff series but maxon and america did have some cute moments

That's so funny I was browsing my New York Public Library and decided why not read these although I'm so so late and just finished the third book two nights ago!! There's definitely things in these books that frustrated me and I'm exciting to watch the video and see what your opinions are

i read these super late in the game too!! Yes they were really cheesy, predictable, and very ya. i still loved them! I think because i read so much heavy romance or heavy fantasy that it was nice to read a quick easy book! Also i loved maxon but agree like the characters hurt me so much with the whole back and forth :/. But i did love the aspect of the series and honestly wish there was more books with the courting trope because i feel like it would be so interesting to read!

when I read this series, I had the same feeling like your. Yeah, I was pissed with America too in the 2nd book. I almost stop the reading the series in the middle of the 2nd book, but I just continue reading the series. By the way the other two book (The Heir and The Crown) is about her America daughter. My recommend to skip happy ever after book because it is a in between book just about after America and Max had gotten married, just read the other 2 books if you want, they are good, but not my favorite.

This was such a fun vid! I would be interested hear your opinion about more of the super popular 00's series/books if you haven't read them (hunger games, divergent, legend trilogy) just to see if they stand the test of time :)

I rated the first book 5 stars, the elite 3, and the one 4. But the series overall was a 5 for me. It is my favorite series because of how much I love maxon (but I hat how he has a relationship with kriss...)

It's so crazy because no matter how old I get, I recommend these books. Granted, I fell in love with them when I was in middle school so that could be it. So I am always so shocked when people don't love them! LOL

Not everyone like the books you like. Not everybody love the idea that 35 ladies live for a few month in the palice of the prince to find a marriage for himself. It's the same with harry Potter. Not everyone like Harry Potter.

I read the books about her daughter and low key kinda liked them better once I got past the first book and accepted that the girl is even more annoying than her mom, but also I gave all of these books 4 and 5 stars so there's that.

Nah because I hated America in the 1st and 2nd book and then I hated Maxon in the 3rd because this man was about to marry someone else because of a miscommunication, this series just pissed me off.

This series was poplar when I was in my early 20’s. I read book 1. And I HATED the MC. So I never read more. She was holding out hope that she could be with a crappy guy when a prince was in love with her. That other guy treated her horrible. She deserved better. But then I also don’t think she deserved better because she sucked 😂 It’s probably for a middle grade audience and not so much for a young adult audience. 😅

Great review. There are many things wrong with this series, I really liked the first one too. But America just gets more stupid with each book/chapter. And what a great hypocrite she is too, gosh. Also the lack of communication, or a sign of a character arch, that was annoying. And then Aspen is dragging this series down so bad, so I cannot enjoy it even as a guilty pleasure. 😑
