in 1893 frank sheffiold was put in this jail for murdering his 5-year old daughter maggie. the jailkeepers wife seeing his melancholy, loaned him her rocking chair. frank remained here from august 28, 1893 until october 1893 when he was declared insane & moved to state asylum, howard ave, cranston. he died there march 14, 1901.
