Met Diahann and Vic Damone on Maui Island when they were flying in a helicopter together.She was beautyfull inside and out..best dressed lady eye ever saw too!What eye loved most about her was her earthiness as a mother figure to me when eye offered her a gardenia to put behind her 👂.And she told methat gardenias mean death in the South.But i reminded her of her own child and I told her I had a bobby pin in the back and she let put a gardenia in her hair.A very spiritual moment for us both

Merv Griffin did very well in this episode, catching onto the baby business through the audience's reaction! His quickfire exchange with the final contestant was also a refreshing change - that last gentleman knew his line well enough to give his answers quickly and confidently, without needing John Daly to step in for him all the time!

@castinmeadows69564 жыл бұрын
@@disvids8754 Hmmm, one never knows. It is possible. But, then, sometimes the underlying nature of what is perceived as arrogance may be something else entirely. Context is all. As is one's stripe of overall character. In other cases, many a genius comes across as abundantly arrogant - what is, in some cases, evidence of acute, interminable frustration in having few or no peers who truly understand what one's work/passion/thought processes and drives (and attendant sacrifices) are about. Such individuals, many of whom are deeply sensitive beings, endure great loneliness, what would kill many. In other words, that quality of arrogance can mask anger of no small disaffection/alienation, pain and suffering in the face of massive ignorance or baseless prejudice (of any kind). For all her talent, Ms. Carroll was hardly a genius. Nor is this to say or assume that what you perceived as her haughty demeanor, in that interview, is without merit. Not having seen the interview myself, and my not knowing really anything about her personal background, I simply cannot say, either way. Her emphasis on a glamorous appearance, apparently at all times (in the public eye at least), may mask personal insecurity/vanity issues and/or deeply ingrained impositions of the entertainment world which she was well-suited to comply with/adapt herself well to, given her stunning physical beauty. There is one interview I saw, in which she recounted an experience with Marlon Brando relatively early, I believe, in their respective careers. If her story is true, I respected how she said she dealt with it, and how Brando himself responded afterward. If so, safe to say that Brando likely very much respected her response as well - if only for the rarity of it. Apparently, she did not fall for what countless other women had where the young Brando was concerned. Quite the contrary. Yet, in later years, she also openly admitted her insecurity to live alone, not knowing how to live alone, her expectation of her husbands to make her happy, and how difficult a person she was to live with. I don't doubt that. So, arrogance? Not unlikely. But, again, what lies underneath a person's arrogance. Is the arrogance, however off-putting, backed up with legitimate accomplishment and brilliance (e.g., the genius musician-artist-bandleader Miles Davis)? Or does it conceal tremendous personal insecurity? Or something in between? Human beings are rarely black-and-white. Observing any person closely and fairly is, often, to find some quite interesting things. Including, in reflection, about ourselves, yes?

Diahann Carroll had such natural beauty. Gorgeous with little to no makeup. She didn't need makeup at all. Her figure was to die for. And she was gorgeous even when in her senior years. She never showed her age. I was born in 1955, & in the 60s I would always watch any program if she was on it. I loved the TV show she starred in, "Julia". I loved her appearance on Sonny & Cher. She sang beautifully. Her beauty & figure were incomparable. I was Diahann's biggest fan.

Indeed, they played uncharacteristically poorly on that round. Usually when one line of questioning is going nowhere someone will try to change tack and come at it another way.
@Vitte43 жыл бұрын
At 4:13, Cerf's question of Hillary: "Do you appear before the public in your sporting affiliation?" Answer: No. At 4:55, Griffin: "Would you be managerial staff of a particular team?" Answer: Yes. All the sports then ticked off were in regards to the managerial aspect (e.g., 5:32, Cerf: "Is the sport with which you are associated baseball?") So these questions were understandable.

Watching this show again I am reminded of how I actually loved that the pickle purveyor and Merv got a little rhythm going with only one or two words back and forth to get to the line. It kept the game going at a brisk clip and everything was quite clear without a lot of extraneous words. It was a pleasing Noel Coward-style interlude.

To think that Merv Griffin created Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He became wildly wealthy thanks to his creativity. BRAVO!

@@janetmarletto6667 I specifically recall in regard to "Wheel of Fortune" that Merv gave credit to his wife for creating it. It is a sort of "hangman" and she suggested it to him when they were driving together and he carried it out.

In the spring and summer of 1962, Merv guest hosted "The Tonight Show" a number of times between the time Jack Paar quit in March until Johnny Carson's contract ended with ABC and he could ascend as regular host on October 1st. Merv DID get his own daily 55 minute daytime talk show on NBC the same day that Johnny took over late-night.

Wow. Sir Edmund. Kind of had a tragic life. I think his wife and possibly child died in plane crash on way to visit him.

From Wikipedia: On 31 March 1975 while en route to join Hillary in the village of Phaphlu, where he was helping to build a hospital, Louise and Belinda were killed in a plane crash near Kathmandu airport shortly after take-off.
