Wheat Ridge Police will use drones to check for fires and monitor illegal fireworks this Fourth of July.

More reasons why I'm glad I moved out of Colorado. Why can't we have 1 day? Here in Wisconsin the city doesn't even do fireworks on the 4th because the people out do the city.

I didn't see Wheat Ridge drones last night, either they didn't fly or they didn't broadcast RID as required by FAA.

I don't know if they flew or not, but I do know that all of their drones transmit RID. All of their drones are new drones that are Standard RID compliant. Odds are your app didn't pick them up. If you're using an iPhone app, it won't pick up any standard DJI RID transmission. iPhones only pick up BlueTooth, and DJI transmits on wifi.

Uhm they are the police they are exempt from those regulations so they can sneakily spy on you with equipment you paid for duh. But they're just out catching bad guys is all.

Great use of drones. And I completely disagree with Mr. Kruegel. It would not be that hard to locate where those fireworks are coming from, and send a squad car to confirm. And Line Of Sight wouldn't be that hard to maintain.
