One thing to clarify: after the Forsaken's imprisonment, Ishamael was the only one still able to wander in the world, but only as a spirit, while his body still lay imprisoned with the other 12 at Shayol Ghul (like Prue Halliwell's astral projection in Charmed). If he was really there when Lews Therin destroyed himself and his palace (Eye of the world prologue), then the Forsaken should've died too and been reborn with the Dragon at the end of the Third Age. Instead he returned in the world as a spirit for 3 times (1 for millennium) before being finally freed, soul and body, with the others from their prison.

Lews Therrin must have been so annoyingly cocky if like half of the forsaken were his friends who turned to the Dark One just to spite him.

I wonder how the Shadow was so successful early in the war since most of their future top generals were against them at first.

No one knew what the shadow was, or what war was even, early on. Easy to win a game when your opponent doesn't know the game exists.

The way this "iteration" of him lived this life was part of the motivation for a number of the Forsaken. Did they develop jealousy from the manipulations of the Dark One, or was it the transience of free will?

Assuming he actually did kill ten thousand people a day for ten years straight, Aginor killed three million, six hundred fifty-two thousand, and five hundred people over the course of the war. The real number is probably smaller than that but even halved that's insane.

The society in the age of legends had tech more advanced than what we have here and now, alongside use of the One Power. Population might have stabilized with food production aided by the Da'shain Aiel and the Ogier. Aginor might be comparable to n*zis like Mengele or Himmler who oversaw atrocities before & during WWII.

Ishamiel’s logic is flawed. Just because something is inevitable doesn’t mean you should accept it. Entropy & death are just as inevitable but we still value fighting against it for the value & meaning we get from life. Same goes for the battle against the shadow. But I suppose that’s the danger of true nihilism without existentialism.

Also, the thing is that the wheel has already turned an infinite amount of time, and the Dark One had infinite chances to destroy the world but failed every single time. This literally means that the Dark One has a zero percent chance of winning, so it would be more logical to stay with the light.

Does the Wheel of Time fit as mid-fantasy kind-of like Tolkien's books where magic is limited to a few and magic artifacts can be quite rare and powerful? For reference, A Song of Ice & Fire would be low-fantasy imo, while D&D Forgotten Realms is High Fantasy

I would say that Magic features quite a lot in the series, in the overall universe the Aes Sedai are few, but in the books we spend a lot of time with magic users so they don’t appear that rare, and magic is used quite often. Furthermore the magic is a lot less subtle compared to LoTR
