I’m Ellie and this channel follows me on my journey through life, navigating chronic illness and disability in a world that wasn’t designed for us. This week I went shopping in my wheelchair for the first time in 7 years! I tried clothes on in the fitting room and talked you through why I chose what I did and why I left what I did.

This made me start crying when your mom started talking. It’s so moving to see you guys talk together. I wish I had a mother figure like this and I’m so glad you do! I hope you’re feeling okay and get to rest and find all the clothes!!!

I hate shopping in my wheelchair for two reasons one you mentioned and changing room to be used as storage facilities. Second is often cram things in so cannot get down isles or turn around in the store. Ps also steps going into shops are a absolute bug bear of mine.

I agree! Luckily I live in a relatively new town so everything was built with accessible entrances but even then some shops put their stock so close together that I can’t get in! After doing this small trip though I feel more resilient for if that happens in the future

The more wheelchair users go out, the more people see them and realize they exist. The more wheelchair users ask for a change room, the more people will realize that they aren’t storage rooms. The more wheelchair users say “this is blocking the isle. Can someone please move it, I cannot get through.” People will realize that wheelchair users exist and need to be able to get through. I’m not trying to force you of course, just want to let you know these things

Did you go to Topshop? That's the only UK clothing retailer I can name, since it was mentioned in the UK comedy television series "The Mighty Boosh". Thanks for the interesting and informative video!

Top shop actually closed down a few years ago but I used to shop there a lot! This shop was H&M which I think you have in the US?

@@SmallandStrong66 Yes, there's an H&M in the local mall where I live. I miss the days when malls were relevant and it was fun to hang out there.

My mom usually is the one to go to the employees and say something about it, because it is really draining to do. She also does it really well so I just let her. Win-win situation for me haha

agree l hate trying stuff on it nightmare beening wheelchair there was one room yesterday and it was someone in there it easy buying on line and trying on at home Is that your new wheelchair X

Buying online is deffo easier but I end up spending more! No this isn’t the new one yet… it’s on its way though!

as l was going go to the nhs and get one but dont know what they like my neuorogen always telling me to go and get fitted for one as l just have a quickie wheelchair

Mine is a quickie now and my new one will be a quickie too so there might not be much difference in the nhs one to what you have now

It’s an emergency pull chord for us you need assistance in an emergency. When they’re tied up many people can’t reach them
