Having listened to a few interviews with current indy wrestlers, a lot of them have backgrounds (ie, what they did in high school) more focused on things like theater and music than sports... which makes sense, as wrestling is a performance art.

No. He has really been pushed hard the past couple of months. They could’ve put literally 10-20 other wrestlers in this same position and got the same results.

He did all the dirty jobs every week as the resident babyface jobber, whether that's getting mauled by returning stars in brutal squash matches or getting slapped around on short notice as a replacement for other wrestlers. And with those opportunities, he took the ball and ran with it, often delivering awesome performances that showed off his talent while (more importantly) making his opponent look like a million bucks. A lot of other wrestlers with main-event aspirations would consider what Yuta did career suicide: jobbing to literally everyone and working your ass off without a guarantee of a long-term payoff. This is because doing so usually means that your career would have to stall as you wait for the stink of your jobber status to fade (which by no means is a guarantee). It is also VERY easy to botch a long-term push like this, ruining all the plans you sacrificed your body and time to put into place, and thus ambitious wrestlers would try to avoid these scenarios entirely. And at the same time, Yuta is also at the perfect age and skill level to represent someone who has amazing potential, has grown rapidly, and could truly take off under the guidance of high-level mentors. To imply that they arbitrarily decided to push him in lieu of "10 or 20 other wrestlers" who could do the same, dismissing the incredible amount of work all parties put into this, shows you either aren't paying attention or dislike something else about Yuta that you're not mentioning.

The Reau Chambeau was the perfect countermove to Jay Lethal’s finisher. That’s no small thing in light of what Lethal has done in his career. Starks might be doing things that the old man might want to steal. Ha ha

Yuji Nagata had a great match with Tom Lawlor at NJPW Windy City Riot.

I think he's also kind of a modern twist on Ricky Steamboat, using technique and wit to win rather than flashy finishers (which, as Kris Statlander repeatedly noted, no one has even seen). Yuta's excellent diving crossbody literally feels like an homage to the Dragon, along with the fact that he won his first match with BCC using a surprise roll-up (another Steamboat signature). And of course, the fact that he's one of the very, very few male Asian-American pro-wrestling stars to make it to TV since Steamboat kinda seals the connection for me.

He isn’t even that fun to watch. They had a British kid on AEW dark a few times, Ben something or another, and he was super impressive. That’s just one aspect of wrestling. Technical ability doesn’t mean the matches are fun to watch. The Rock was fun to watch. Always. More fun than Yuta is. We still don’t know if this guy can cut a promo to save his life. I didn’t even know what he sounded like until this interview.

@@JohnTorres1987 I beg to differ. Yuta has had fun singles matches on Dark and some one TV filling in for Trent in Best Friends. Watching his initiation into the Blackpool Combat Club has been a delight. He's shown improvement against Moxley in their trilogy of matches (Miami, DC, and Rampage,) and his performances in the tag match with Chuck vs. Danielson and Moxley, his singles match with Danielson- the same week he rose up and won the ROH Pure Championship at Super Card of Honor were great IMO. He might not be the strongest promo in the world, but neither are any of the other young lions that Danielson mentioned, like Pillman and Moriarty. Danny Garcia might be the strongest on the mic of the group, but he's in the same position as Yuta, but under Jericho. I think Yuta has potential judging by is interview with Mark Henry before the Moxley Rampag match e. He basically told him, "You've beaten and battered me but there's nothing else you can do to me. By night's end I will have your respect." And he showed some fire. The point of the story with BCC is for mentor young raw guys like Yuta with potential and mold them serious pro wrestlers. Yuta has already shown the fruits of his BCC training first trios match this week where they took on the Gunn Club. He's more aggressive and he's added joint manipulation and various types of mounted punching to his game. There's a fairly recent bio on him on KZfaq where he talks about how much he practices on his off time. I think he's a perfect first candidate for this faction, as he shows a lot of passion, fire, and potential. I don't think a guy like Regal would put his rep (Kayfabe or not) on the line of Yuta wasn't capable.

@@JohnTorres1987 If you mean Benjamin Carter, he was a little coy about signing with AEW in interviews and ended up signing with WWE and joining NXT UK as Nathan Frazier. He was a little raw and BCC would have helped but he's getting a high level or training at the PC now.

@@JohnTorres1987 Now that you mentioned a British youth, I'd like to see them go after Anthony Ogogo next. He's really raw coming from the boxing world and his mentor Cody pretty much abandoned him at the very least Kayfabe wise and he could use that Blackpool training.

He re-signed after letting his contract expire. I do not feel bad he is being wasted because he knew what was going to happen and went back for more.

And a new entrance theme. Love pretty much everything about the guy, but if he can somehow land an iconic entrance theme (instead of the CAW stock audio they saddled him with), he can get one step closer to being the complete package. One step closer... hmmm... maybe give him a Linkin Park track and let him enter with Mike Shinoda one day.

@@indiansfever11 Imagine a tournament where one wrestler earns their mask, and anonymity. The others participants will display new moves, new gimmicks, and new heel/face turns. It would allow talent rebranding and give people a showcase for change. Oh and every wrestler wears a mask with a new name and is only unmasked when they lose.

Yes, all of wrestling booking should be concerned wether something is specifically over with you and ignore the audience that chanted his name against Moxley and Danielson and the online excitement about him. You might not get it and that’s your taste and fine but he is over with large majority and that can’t be ignored.
