Wheeling at Katemcy Rocks Texas with a Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator NITTO JEEP EXPERIENCE - Part 2

Part 2 of MILD 2 WILD highlights the main event at the 2019 Nitto Jeep Experience presented by KMC Wheels. Although it rained on us for the better part of the day, Texas is usually pretty hot this time of year and so it was actually a welcomed sight being that it did such a great job of helping to keep things cool. Of course, the added water and subsequent mud we got from it did have a way of making trails such as Fence Line, School Bus, Devil's Draw, King of the Hill and Little Debbie, a bit more of a challenge. Because that this was an all breeds Jeep event, we did have the pleasure of wheeling with rigs other than your typical JK or JL Wrangler but I think it's fair to say there was only one rig, that everyone was eager to see in action - the badass EVO Jeep Gladiator Truck, also known as the OG 40. We hope you enjoy our presentation.
Oh, and because I know it's coming, yes, a number of people were having issues with their e-lockers including us. PSC and DANA were having issues with their front (faulty aftermarket switch system) and we were having issues with our rear (turned out to be a partially severed harness). Without question, this had a way of making things... a bit more interesting. But, at least we got to put our WARN winches to the test.
A BIG THANKS needs to go out to our good friends Mel and Lisa from EVO for inviting us to this truly amazing wheeling event. We'd also like to thank the good folks at Katemcy Rocks for allowing us to play on their awesome property. Last but not least, we'd like to thank Tom and Kim from PSC, Rachel and Randall from DANA and all the other participants who joined us in the fun. I have to say that Texans really are some of the nicest people we've met anywhere and we truly had a great time with ya'll!

Sat next to Mel and his family on the water taxi in Bullhead City this weekend. I would have loved to asked him some questions about the suspension. However family time is family time. So instead...We got off after them I just quietly told my wife you know those videos we have been watching of the black Gladiator....that is the guy that built it. On a side note I ordered my 19 JLU from Jim Marsh this weekend. What a great experience.

It's amazing how the JT wheelbase was a factor, and the SD XJ on the other end didn't have enough.
@wayalife
@wayalife 5 жыл бұрын
Across the board, the JT wheel base was more of a benefit than a drawback. Even on the one obstacle that it backed off of, Mel could have made it up with enough time. We just had to keep things moving. On the XJ, what got him hung up was the 14 bolt rear axle hanging up on the obstacle. A shaved base or smaller axle would have made a big difference.

To be fair, the Gladiator wasn't just running any ol' 40" tire - they were racing tires as in, stickies. Of course, Mel is a great driver too. Build his JL like he built his Gladiator and Eddie’s JL would do just about everything the Gladiator can do, and some it cannot because of different wheelbases. Just because the Gladiator came along, it’s not the end all be all. Now, with the coming diesel... just sayin 😁

Eddie I really like your JL. But for some reason I like Moby your JK. Just one question. Are they about the same when rock crawling? Second I like that meant looking grey Jeep.

Oh, there's no comparison - Moby will walk all over our JL. Hands down, he is still our favorite.

Question for Cindy, as I have always said "amazing videos". This looks like it was shot and edited in 4K, what camera are you using now.... just incredible sharp imagery. Keep up the great work, both of you.

Since you have removed the muffler have you thought about partnering with a company that could add a reserver fuel tank with skid in it's place to add more range to jeep? This is something i would be interested in to help on long overlanding adventures/lengthy cross country trips.
@wayalife
@wayalife 5 жыл бұрын
I do a lot of cross country driving and live in Nevada where there are areas that the nearest gas is almost 200 miles away on pavement. To this day, I have yet to see a need to carry anything more than an additional 4 gallons of gas to get me where I need to be. The LAST thing I would want is to carry a crazy amount of weight on the back of a Jeep - a space I purposefully got rid of the muffler to help free up some ground clearance. Not only will this cause a tremendous amount of rear end sag, it'll throw off your center of gravity just on the rear. However, the biggest problem I'd have with it is that I personally have a friend that a setup like this, lost a rear wheel on the highway and wasn't able to control his Jeep because of the significant load he had in the rear. He ended up rolling his Jeep 4 times and is lucky to be alive. Of course, this is just me and my opinion based on what I have seen and experienced.

@@wayalife Thanks for the input as i always appreciate your insight... Also, how do you like the new front CV style axle over the traditional? do you have any issues with the lockup on full steer?
@wayalife
@wayalife 5 жыл бұрын
@@dmboverland1574 I've run RCV's in the past and honestly, I'm not a fan of them. We only decided to run them being they were the only thing available that would work on a ProRock 44JL. They are hardly worth the $400 premium especially being that they start to snap and pop loudly after hard use. RCV considers this to be "normal" and they will not warranty it. I've always found that chromoly shafts with full circle clips work just as well. There is no crow hopping or u-joint bind with CV's at a full turn and when in 4WD but really, that's not something that occurs often enough to be worth the high premium and is hardly a problem. But again, that's just me.
