I share your opinion & observation. Best to change tires on a flat horizontal ground. If that's not possible, as in this case on a slope, at least put on 3 wheel chokes on the other 3 tires that are still in contact with the ground. Safety First!

I took the car out for a ride right after I put the wheels on down this really twisty road ... just to get the suspension to settle before I took the 360 "after" pics. I swear I could feel a positive change just from the wheels. Not the grip, mind you ... wasn't going to push it on new rubber. But seem to feel a lot more ... planted ... for lack of a better word. Realize it could be a kinda placebo effect (me just knowing I had new wheels/tires) but I wasn't really expecting or looking for it. I'll put some more miles on it and then do another drive video before I do anything else to the suspension. Give any impressions/observations I have and it will also give me an excuse to fancy things up a bit with a couple of new GoPros I got. Let me cut to some different angles during the drive and work on my pretty woeful editing skills. Thinking about a thicker sway bar too. There's no company that officially makes one but a guy on BenzWorld that has them made in batches of 10 ... think he might have a few still. That'll still keep me within my goal of only doing mods that can be reversed in the future if anyone might want to.

Thanks. I've seen the stock wheels on these (in chrome) and think they look good. Works with the rest of the chrome and anodized trim. Was really hoping to do the springs this weekend but still not 100% sure what I want to do so that may be a week off. Will be posting another drive video soon, this time just with the silver car, and give my take on any changes made just by going with the different wheels and wider tires. Will also probably put the new bumper chrome on this weekend. I'll make and post a video of that process but that will be more of a how to and likely only of much interest to someone that's getting ready to take their own bumper off.

Thanks. Tires are Goodyear Eagle Sport AS but I probably would have gone with the comparable Michelin if I had it to do over. I don't have any issues with any aspect of the Goodyear's performance but I think the Michelin have a more rounded looking sidewall which I would have preferred. If you do it I think you'll like it. When I did this video I had only put probably 50-70 miles on the car but the more I drive it the more I'm aware of how much it improves the handling feel of the car while not impacting the ride of the car. At least not in any way I find to be negative. When I go drive my red 1990 which is on the stock wheels and tire size the difference is very noticeable.

I too am struggling to like the new wheel and tire combo. There's something conservative and adequate about the original. The new combo feels a bit too modern urban, and that's the best way I can put it. I like the idea of more tread, and a wider wheel, but I feel like it changed the look too much. That's just me, though. On second look, it may be the tire tread design that feels a bit aggressive. A different tire choice, more like the original tire, might have done the trick. It's the tire tread. It's a bit too sporty.

@ponkritasilp9282 Think I saw the video where he talked about that before I bought the wheels. I respect the hell out of the guy and watch his videos all the time but he's about as hardcore a purist as there is so pretty much anything that deviates from stock he isn't going to dislike. While I totally respect the folks that want to keep these highly original the quality of the Maxilite wheel is very good. Not sure why he singled them out in the video I watched. There are definitely some lower quality wheels out there. Previous owner of the black 420 I've yet to decide what I'm going to do with put some BBS knockoffs made by Alzor on the car. They're of noticeably lower quality then the OEM or Maxilite wheels. But, they also cost about half as much as the Maxilites.

@redcapote4760 I don't have an issue with the tread but I wish the sidewall had a more rounded look to them. I just replied to someone else that I wish I had gone with the Michelins because I don't think they're quite as "square" on the sides and carry over some of that OEM look. My main issue right now is that when I had the picture in my head of how the wheels would look that picture also had the car slightly lower. I have the springs to do that but decided it was a little more than I wanted to tackle in my driveway. And I need to finish up some things before I try to find a shop to do it for me. Having said that .... I do realize there will be some folks that like that even less than the wheels. But I really have put a lot of effort (and extra $$$) into making sure that anything I'm doing to the car is 100% reversible if some owner in the future might want to take it back to stock. I'll have the original wheels, springs and whatever else I might change out in storage just for that purpose.

No problem. Everyone has their own tastes and would get pretty boring if everyone did the same thing. I really wanted something pretty much exactly the same look as the OEM wheels but with the 17x8 size .... these are really the closest you can get to that. I do think the wheels are going to work better once I get the springs on. They look a bit more modern and think getting rid of some of the gap between the wheels and the fenders will suit them be4tter.
