Have you ever tried working as a manga assistant? Like the traditional way of being able to get your own manga published after working a bit with a mangaka and then get that “card” to get your own work published?

I instantly really liked your character creation for the contract work - I think they call that a "blink test"? Your analysis of the discrete features such as eyebrows and other allusions of course cemented that impression with analysis. Excellence in character. The reduction of features in the editing process/brief (well imo and taste) improved the character or else another way of putting it, the sometimes but not always useful saying "less is more". To capture the essential nature in the simplest way perhaps? In fact studying films, it's incredible how much editing improves the film with the exact quality, pacing and beats of the story of the film 9 times out of 10 put together thanks to the right edits removing and arranging: It reminds me of distillation chemistry to refine the final product for example increasing it's ethanol content while reducing down the total volume! Kanpai! You told a story that was like a camp-fire tale, of exploits into the wider world, with your experiences of commission work which was entertaining, thank you and great news also on the colour of money: My thoughts on remuneration would be centered around a fair price in both directions, some of the value in the work might surely be covering the other points you made, consistently, and thus word of such good standards may spread through 'word of good mouth' and goodwill? For sure I'd be interested in commissioning some Manga art for a project in mind. The advice you gave was very useful.

I plan to open commissions early next year. I have a small nice fanbase on Pixiv and there's interest in commissions from me, but the issue is, is that I'm a silly procrastinator. whenever my mood is high I go crazy and push out works. but when it's low like now I tend to laze around and works that should be done in like half a day I finish in like a week. I'm gonna start off low just to test myself and only open 3 slots. The works definitely won't be be big projects like yourself, but I'm gonna give it a shot. Maybe the juices will get pumping again if I'm successful. Love you style btw, the energy and discipline is soothing to watch.

awesome video, but need to ask, what do you recommend to artists who want to do comissions if twitter/instagram/pixiv/etc. algorithm doesn't like them or just don't have enough visibility to have clients?

Is it just me or did the picture of the characters your just drawn in the video looked quite similar to the works of those who worked at Mappa?

Not sure what you are referring to but if my art is similar to art drawn by Mappa artists I'll take that as a compliment!

@@kusanagi420 Yes, that was what I meant. What your drawn in this video was given me the Makima vibe. And assuming that you managed to create a story and it gets published, which company do you wanted to be the one to animate your story? I mean, you get the right to choose, right?
@kusanagi420
@kusanagi420 7 ай бұрын
@@lerneanlion Thanks! Makima was indeed an inspiration for those "Crazy/Intense" anime eyes! Regarding the anime industry - from what I know the mangaka (especially new ones) don't really get to decide the animation studio. It's usually a bidding war involving different anime studios, after they get the proposals from the manga publishers and the production team for the series. Regardless, if given the choice, I would love to have my work be animated by KyoAni as my first choice. My 2nd choice would be Ufotable.

@@kusanagi420 Well, when your manga finally get published, I hoped the studio that will get to animate your works will be one of these two. And I asked such a question because I heard Mr. Isayama was heavily involved with the production team when it comes to animating his series, Attack on Titan.

Hey Kusanagi, I have been watching your videos when you suddenly got recommended for me, since then I have liked and enjoyed each and every video you have made. BTW. I am always amazed by your works. Knowing your experience in making mangas I want to ask for your opinion on what I can do regarding my situation. Just like the person above, I am 16 year old script writer(I mean it) I have been working on my story(long story), and I have written three chapters so far. And I am trying to learn drawing in order to back up my writing. The opinion I want to get from you is, what should I have as a priority: should I consider on just creating the world, the characters, the plot; or ; Learning how to draw, how to story board, how to ink, how to draw poses? Also, one more question, should I consider making a youtube channel potentially promoting my story? If yes, how do I do so?
@kusanagi420
@kusanagi420 7 ай бұрын
First of all, thanks for the support! My answer is basically - It depends. Your situation and circumstances are yours alone so take everything I have to say with a grain of salt and not as advice - but as considerations to think about. If you are dead set on learning how to draw and you enjoy it, by all means, develop it as a skill. As for what you should learn first technically - try to identify your weakest points and maybe work on those. But since your writing sounds like your strongest point, I'd say learning how to convert your script into a storyboard would have to be a high priority, since the storyboard is the backbone, while everything else is just garnish. You seem to be developing a really long story, but if you want to present your draft to a publisher (assuming that you want to present to them directly instead of joining contests), they will really only care about a one-shot. That means you have to find a way to make sure that you have a self-contained story in around 45 pages or less. Consider reading Romance Dawn (Oda Eiichiro's one shot for One Piece) as an example. Publishers will not care about chapters 2 and beyond until you actually get a serialization proposal. But if you want to publish independently, you can ignore everything I mentioned in this paragraph. Also, I don't really think this is an industry secret or anything, but the most important things in manga are the characters. Editors would most likely only ask questions about the characters when you present a storyboard (based on personal experience). The world and the mechanics of the world might be fully fleshed out and interesting, but the real drivers of any story are the characters. You have to make a reader subconsciously think "This story won't be the same if we replace this character with someone different". I think every KZfaqr has their own motivations and triggers for wanting to make a KZfaq channel, so you have to find yours. You also have to consider if you have the time to dedicate for it, since you have to learn an additional set of skills if you want to make videos. Try to find content creators you enjoy and get inspiration from them. My personal inspiration for this channel is actually Casey Neistat, a vlogger. But I always try to learn from other content creators as well. At the end of the day only you can decide how you want to go about handling your KZfaq channel (if you decide to make one). Phew, this was a long response! This is one of those rare days I actually take some time to read the comments section of one of my videos. I probably won't type a response this long for quite a while. Hopefully you can find a way to use the information I typed out to find success. Best of luck!

@@kusanagi420 Thank you man, I really appreciate your help. I will most certainly look at the one shots route, cause I have heard from a lot of people and you that it's important for presenting your work. And for the characters, upon hearing my readers(friends) and reading my stories thoroughly, I can say that my two main characters can be considered as non replaceable, but the main main character(the voice of the reader) needs some additional work. Thank you, Kusanagi I am glad that you could answer to my comment and help me and other people who had the same trouble! I am looking forward for your new videos!!!
