You know, I've been around radio since 1976 when I was 10. Some nights when I have my SW on, my mind goes wonky, and I get weird out of the blue thoughts. One is I wonder if there will ever be a connection that will replace the PL-259, BNC, and SO-239. I mean the PL-259 has been around since I've been around radios. The BNC has always been on any scanner I've had. It just makes me wonder. An antenna plug that looks like an old keyboard or mouse plug. How about an antenna connection plug that looks like a CB mic jack. Just makes me wonder if they will ever get around to change when it comes to that. My Icom 8600 has a N connection for VHF/UHF. Lots of people have ruined that N jack because it looks a lot like a PL-259 but a small BNC pin. They force the PL-259 into it and ruin it. I'm not much into portable radios, I do like them especially the H-501X. I think all portable radios should have a BNC connection for external antennas. Sometimes plugging that H-501X 1/8 plug makes me cringe with my big coax.
