Not true. Herbivores are animals, and they do not eat meat, so your comment "Every animal" is wrong. Herbivores only eat plants, they do not and will not "eat the face off" other animals.

Apparently Orca pods develop very particular tastes and can be very picky with what they eat, and go to great lengths to hunt their favored prey. An orca pod will often ignore easy prey if it isn't what they prefer. Presumably since orcas would only rarely get an opportunity to eat a human, they never develop a taste for them to begin with.

Something I think he forgot to hit on was the difference between transient and resident pods of Orcas. Where as the transients travel the worlds oceans and feed on other mammals such as whales, dolphins, any and all variety of seals and penguins, the resident pods tend to stay in one location and eat nothing but fish. So it's only a fraction of the worlds Orca population that is involved here suggesting that with a smaller number of Orcas the behavior changes would be even more radical.

one on one , a great white could kill an orca. Great whites teeth are particularly sharp and nasty. However, orcas run in packs sharks do not, it's like angry wolves nipped at your heels from every direction and all at once. Best just to get the hell out of there than to stay and fight such a lopsided battle. Sperm whales like the one is Moby Dick can also kill orcas. kodiak grizzlies and polar bears could kill an orca, they can dig in with their claws and wrestle because like orcas, bears have 4 very long limbs. Orcas could try cornering a grizzly, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the first one to die as a cornered animal is the most dangerous kind. Also, I think a pride of lions could take on a group of orcas, and one on one,a Tiger or Liger is gonna have a good shot at it, as their strength and lethality is unmatched in the animal kingdom. they don't mind water, they could try to drag a big cat underwater to drown it, however as said earlier, I would not want to be the first one to try to pull this off and get maimed or killed. Also nile crododiles sometimes live so long they can get to be so large that nothing but a shallow water attack from elephants or a big pride of lions beat them. also I think crocodiles have better underwater vision than land predators. don't screw with crocodiles they swim fast like a torpedo underwater and can live in freshwater or salt water shaboing!?! :O :O :O

I feel obligated to make one correction, here: Blue whales don't have dorsal fins, in the typical way one would think of a dorsal fin to be. It hadn't been bitten off. What we are seeing is their natural shape: Just a small ridge along the back, which is only slightly remnant of a dorsal fin in the traditional sense! The orcas are still incredibly powerful though, and I don't doubt the extent of the damage they inflicted, overall!

There was an incident near the Farallon Islands some years back that may be what you're referring to. The way I recall the story, a great white was attempting to take a seal away from the orca which had killed it. The orca rammed the shark, stunning it, then flipped it on it's back until the shark suffocated/drowned. (Some species of sharks cannot pump water through their gills, and need to keep swimming.) The orca then ripped the shark open and ate it's liver. There's also a pod of orcas that showed up off the coast of South Africa in the early 2000s. It's the area where the "Air Jaws" shows were filmed. The sharks left the area and moved to a location quite a distance away after at least 5 great white bodies washed up on shore with their livers missing. The orca pod was easily identifiable as two of the males had collapsed dorsal fins, and had been nicknamed "Port" and "Starboard" for the side the fin ended up. There are also orcas near New Zealand who hunt sharks and stingrays as a major part of their diet.

Definitely. There's even a video, of a diver whom was suddenly confronted by a Hump Back Whale which continuously pushed her in the direction of her boat. And no matter what the diver did, the Hump Back kept circling around her and pushing her towards her boat. Turns out, there was a Tiger Shark in the area and the Hump Back was trying to protect her.

There is a documentary about this cooperation between orcas and whale hunters. It is Incredible. They didn't just ambushed the whales trapping them in the bay, they also had a way to contact the community to tell them that they have gotten some whale. So soon some whale came to "tell" them about a whale that was trapped by the orca, somebody from the community run to the church to ring the bells. So each whale hunte would go to the sea.

Yes u are absolutely RIGHT !!!!!!! HOLLYWOOD SHOULD MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THE ORCAS IN EDEN AUSTRALIA HELPING THE WHALE HUNTERS BY THEIR OWN DECISION. ORCAS THINK AND DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES , NOBODY ASKED OR TRAINED THEM TO DO SO. FAR BETTER THAN SHEEP DOGS I VE BOUGHT THE BOOK !!!!! ORCAS ARE V SPECIAL BEINGS AND CAPABLE TO DO MANY UNIQUE THINGS THAT FASCINATES ME ! SUCH AS GIVING PRESENTS TO HUMANS LIKE AN ORCA OFFERED A DIVER FROM NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC A PIECE OF STINGRAY TO SHOW FRIENDSHIP I VE READ IT. IN A BOOK ABOUT WHALES. ALSO A GROUP. OF DOLPHINS IN BRASIL , IN LAGUNA I BELIEVE AND ANOTHER COUNTRY HELPED. FOR MANY MANY YEARS. FISHERMEN. TO CATCH FISH BY THEIR OWN DECISION. ORCAS ARE DOLPHINS , BOTH INCREDIBLE BUT ORCAS EVEN MORE AND HOW MUCH ORCAS LOVE MUSIC EVEN MORE THAN HUMANS IT IS AMAZING !!!!!;!!!!!!;!! ORCAS❤ ORCAS❤ ORCAS❤❤

The narration. Ok, I'm captivated by every topic on this channel- yet increasingly I'm transfixed by the quality of narration. Where else do we know this voice from?? I am subscribed to another KZfaq channel with this narrator, but where else do we know this voice from? Television?? Assuming it's a human being and not some clever A.I., I'd say their delivery is among the best out there. And if this person isn't already a well-established pro, they deserve to be in high demand. 🤔...Oh, Steve will never let that happen, will he?

I was coming to.say the same.thing. They said it isn't humans fault that orcas are starting to feed on larger whales more frequently. But really, it is. Between pollution and over fishing, species are dying more and more causing there to be less and less for the predators, in turn, causing them to turn to other sources for food.

Wasn't expecting to see Astoria show up here! I will say, a barrier would be extremely impractical without severely disrupting ecology and culture of the area, so I wouldn't say cost was the biggest factor. The Columbia river and nearby estuary can't be gated off from the ocean, and the docks and piers where the seals rest are either part of historical structures or businesses. Rebuilding the piers is a tough sell for a 200+ year old town that prides its historical identity and the tourism that brings. Plenty of tourists and locals also like the seals. I remember various attempts at getting rid of them were always controversial. I also believe that there are factors stronger than the seals leading to declining fish population. If there truly are too many seals than something will need to be done, but the numbers are in line with historical populations I don't think we should try to decimate them, and should conserve the fish in other ways.

I was confused on many occasions when you changed whale species being discussed and yet displayed a different, and incorrect, species of whale. 0:40 - Discuss Blue Whale, show Humpback Whale 0:51 - Discuss Blue Whale, show non-Blue Whale (likely Gray Whale) 1:33 - Discuss Blue Whale, show Gray Whale 8:14 - Discuss Southern Right Whale, show Sperm Whale 9:35 - Discuss Beaked Whales, show Humpback Whale 10:51 - Discuss Humpback Whale, show Sperm Whale 11:56 - Discuss Humpback Whale, show Gray Whale There are likely more after this, got tired of looking for them. Normally I don't spot so many disconnects between what you are saying and the images on the screen, but this one seemed to be excessive.

14:31 Since the Humpbacks didn't prevent the Grey Whale calf from being killed, only stopped the Orcas from eating it, this could be a survival strategy for the Humpbacks. If they prevent the Orcas from eating, after putting in the hard work of hunting, this weakens the predator significantly..which means the Orcas are less of a threat. Keep them from eating long enough, the Orca will start dying, or maybe even leave the area. Either way, the Humpbacks win Edit: @14:38 yeah...because they don't have any other food. We saved the whales, but continue to pillage, pollute, and destroy all other life in the ocean. STOP EATING SEAFOOD! STOP FISHING! It's bad enough we're filling the oceans with plastic and raising temperatures, but we're also scooping out ALL of the fish! "But wait," you say, "It says sustainably caught on the bag!" Sorry hun, that's bullshit. There's no laws and no oversight in international waters. Just because there's a process, doesn't mean everything's gonna be okay.

So are you gonna make China stop? Its not the us causing the problem, not by catch and not by consumption. Americans eat very little fish, alot of it is farmed inland anyway and the rest is the same 4 heavily regulated species we catch in out own territorial waters. China on the other hand has been sending massive floating factories into protected waters like off the galapagos and yes even into Alaska and the uk because what are you gonna do about it.

Humback own calf also get killed and eaten in front of their eyes by orcas while orca didn't yet feel the killing of a child infront of a mother and being dinner of someone's who recently killed her child so stop your over love for orca, humpback try but they get succeed sometimes and sometimes not and it take time so child got killed, I hope orca get wipe out because they are letterally like human who kill for their benefit, shark also do hunt whale but eat them whole not like eat a special area of a child and then search another and do the same with them, filling a belly of orca is take 3 10 whale children's tongue but shark only take one whale calf even hardly

@@noelhalwick1568 As long as we're still consuming dairy products, there will always be steak as a byproduct. Hopefully in the future lab-grown meat will help take the pressure off, which will reserve actual cow meat for nice steaks instead of, like, pizza beef.
