Available often exclusively in Avant (Estate/Wagon) form, the combination of serious firepower, all wheel drive and a sensible German interior has made them the choice of executives and hooligans alike for 25 years.
Today I'm driving one of the most overlooked, but equally amazing RS products. A 2010 RS6 Plus - the one with the 580HP V10. But this one's not standard, running 650HP and 700lb ft of torque!

I run moderately tinted windows on my C5 RS6 but its a ceramic tint to block UV rays, thereby preserving the longevity of the interior materials. More a strategic decision on my end.

Monkey Harris had his primer grey RS 6 Avant longtermer with the blackout windows deleted. Apparently it took a bit of persuading to get Audi UK to sign off on the spec.

A good friend once asked me if I wanted to come a drive a new car in his dealership. It was this very car... Like piloting a lightning jet... Like stepping on a grenade.... Like being fired down the road by a massive elastic band.... Everything made me smile except watching the fuel gauge visibly go down at an extremely alarming rate. Christ what a car.

I still have a C6 RS6, and the bonkers thing with it isn't the 0-100, it's the 100-200. It just pulls no matter what gear/ what speed you are doing when you put your foot down.

Yeah, this is a top-end beast through and through. Honestly I really don’t think it’s really any slower up top than the new C8 RS6. It’s only slight disadvantage is the old 6-speed auto, but at higher speeds that hardly matters.

I’ve owned a saloon S6 C6 for four years and it’s been relatively trouble free. No big bills outside of tyres and servicing to speak of. I’ll be upgrading to a RA6 C6 Avant in the coming months. Love it.

This is one of those cars that car enthusiast love to hate. Its too front heavy, it understeers, the feedback is numb etc, but then once you get in one and take it for a spin you just sorta get it. Had the same with the AMG G-wagens. I never really understood them until I got to take a 500hp G55 Kompressor for a spin, and then it just all clicked.

It's a great car for what it was meant to do. It's not a car for track days or twisty B roads. It's a car to pick up the kids from school on a Friday, pop the dog in the back and drive down the Autobahn at 150mph for a weekend break.

I cannot understand the Jdm or american car fan who dismisses a powerful German sedan. While a Miata is the perfect car for the hills, it is certainly not the greatest car for blasting down the highway for hours or a track day where you need power to pass. Another thing is these cars are dismissed because they are expensive and while that is fair, they are expensive because they are impeccably engineered. What this RS6 lacks in dynamism and agility it makes up for in stability. Modern german performance sedans are even more impressive. I took a 5000+LBS S63 AMG 4Matic+ up a tiny road suited for a miata and it didn't feel extremely out of place.

@11 17 best guess (admittedly a quick Google for images) is Lincoln Continental circa 1976. Definitely not the Town Car circa 1979 as the grille is much narrower 😊. Really pleased you mentioned the RS2 which, until recently, I had not been aware of...... probably the first Avant type "sleeper". The vehicle featured here, debadged perhaps, is for sure a Wolf in sheeps clothing.... civilised on the outside & raging insanity under the hood. Quattro definitely a plus!! Great review James. Respect 👍👍

Lincoln Continental with all the chrome murdered out! My uncle Larry owned one in roughly the same blue as that Audi. And he lived in Detroit and carried a 45 caliber. True story.

His speed test on a German was particularly pleasing, especially hearing that supercharger screaming away o that thing! DeMuro needs to switch it up a bit.

I owned a 1999 A6 Quatro with the RS Badge, and was a rare find since it had the V-10 engine under the hood. I had found it on a Vancouver car lot , traded in by the previous owner. I've owned many sports cars throughout the years, but there is no other vehicle that became such an absolute joy to drive under any and all road conditions. That car had 510,000 km on it ,when she died a tragic death, under the tires of an 18 wheeler. That car saved my hide under multiple circumstances including her tragic ending. When you spend so much time behind the wheel of such a vehicle as this, there is a bond of knowledge and trust that develops between the auto and the driver. That car could literally dance upon the highway, and she gave a daily commitment of understanding to my driving nuances. It was a love affair that has never died .

I have an 2010 Avant 80k klm. Great family car. Dynamic mode when just cruising about town.Only mod, New downpipes, cats, filters with a tune, now 700hp. Though I had a 2018 version loaner with the TT V8 wow they are quicker, better gearing, but the old girl has been faultless, couldn't trade her.

I miss when in the early 2000's the German car engineers engaged in a bit of "Oh ja, halt mein Bier!" I mean the utter lunacy that for another couple of grand at a specialist's place you could leave with a mundane looking 4-door saloon that makes 750 furious Oldenburg Horsepowers and about the same number in stump pulling torques. They were stupid, and fun, the ultimate sleeper cars. Oh and that gigantic lump you passed was a mid 70's Lincoln Continental, likely with the humongous 460ci V-8. As a kid in the 70's we had a 1974 Ford LTD Brougham 2-door coupe with that same 460ci motor. It was the car I learned to drive and got my driver's license in. Parking it was roughly the same as parking a detached garage, only without the visibility or road feel of the shed.

I love these C6 generation of Audi A6/s6/rs6. I had a A6 with the 4.2 and was the most comfortable car I have ever owned and had plenty of power. I had mine tuned to make 300hp to the wheels

My uncle had one of these which I got to drive a bit. A grey Avant, totally stock. It was sodding quick in a straight line and the way the engine really got into its stride above 100 was nuts. It gave you a bloody big shove back into the seat when you floored it. Didn’t really like corners and there was no hiding the weight when you hit the brakes. I remember the running costs being mental too. Stock it sounded way too mute. Ride was pretty poor in the dynamic setting.

Glorious, though I lean towards the V10 M5 myself. If I ever have brand-new BMW money it'll actually be second-hand V10 money-pit money, with the savings on the initial outlay set aside for massive repair, and tax, and fuel bills....and perhaps a Hamann exhaust.

Agree sports mode for suspension is way too harsh (my RS6 Avant I’m Track setting just jumps around on our broken roads) but why didn’t you put it in dynamic mode - that’s what it’s for. It’s far more reactive and handles the back roads really well for a 2100kg car. Comfort is for cruising.

I've heard that pretty much every job that might need doing on that engine requires the whole thing to come out. Alternator? Engine out. Timing belt? Engine out. Makes even the simplest of jobs ruinously expensive. Still an epic car regardless.

Turn off traction control and add Michelin Pilot Sports AS3+ or better, and it'll drive amazing. Aftermarket suspension such as Bilstein dampers or KW setup will make it amazing in the corners as well.

These can make the E60 M5 seem cheap to run. 50p oil seal which leaks every 40k or so miles which requires the engine to be removed. Water pipes rusting near the wheel arch? Yep, another job that needs an engine out!

Yeah I've heard a few horror stories about these. That's the thing with these old luxury barges. The cars depreciate like mad but the parts and servicing costs stay as expensive as always

@@DanLMH I actually like the C6 RS6, but they really are another level of borkage. Yes I do like BMWs, I own an E60 M5, also known for its wallet destroying abilities, and I have seen enough reports from owners about the issues with these.

Awesome cars and for around £2200 at MRC you get 730+hp with 740lbs/ft which, as a video on my channel proves, gets you from 0 to 206mph in just 36 seconds whilst still maintaining extremely good reliability. Yes the steering "feel" is very numb but it goes around a corner far faster than the "handles like a barge" comments give it credit for, as my track day video shows too.

I have a bog standard 2009 rs6 avant. In my opinion the people that slag em off don't drive them for what they are! Out of the box there are very few cars that are as fast, comfortable. As for cost anything that is a performance car will cost but owning one is not about the cost of servicing or running it. Its the desire to have it for me. Ian I have seen yours on u-tube mate its a weapon!! 👏👏👏👏

My biggest gripe is that Audi have never done a saloon version of the latest RS6 or RS4 for that matter - they are missing a trick surely?

Really nice car. Wouldn't be my choice for the ultimate audi as the thumbnail says, if they made an R8 GT/LMX Manual, that would be my choice so I guess R8 V10 Plus Manual will have to do.
