Ashiok really is. Card is good even in Constructed. The large starting loyalty with a +2 can soak up so much damage while generating value by doing -1 or -2 here and there to steal cards like Noble Hierarch, Dark Confidant, Baleful Strix, Tidehollow Sculler, Gilded Goose, etc.

I thought the same thing, I would've at least hoped for a discussion as to why it wasn't a good card. Maybe we just weren't likely to get other good targets for it?

@@pelolep How many targets do you need? Lotus and Strix both seem great with it. LSV is probably right, but I also would have loved to hear the discussion.

I think the problem was the lack of artifacts. Emry is awesome with Strix and Lotus, but those were the only two that benefit from being replayed. His only other artifact is Shadowspear. He can pitch it to some discard outlet and replay it, but that's it. I think if he had LED and/or Mishra's Bauble, Emry might be worth considering.

If anything having two very good targets at this point is an outlier situation in favor of Emry, not against her. Hindsight shows that he had opportunities later to get LED and Bauble. There was even a Mindslaver in a pack where he just hate drafted. If he had taken Emry sixth pick, I think there is an argument he could have gotten to 6 targets with minimal effort. The best guess I can see to the rationale against it comes later when he takes smugglers copter to some degree on the premise of not passing solid colorless cards. If he expects the other drafters to work under similar precepts, he might fear getting those cards cut to a degree that he doesn't get to the needed count. Even if hindsight tells us he could have. Its not so much that the pick is wrong, Ledger Shredder is a fine card and is almost surely going in whatever deck he makes at that point as long as blue doesn't completely dry up. Its just that it could have been an interesting point of discussion of what the upside of an Emry pick would have been, and what he thought would have needed to go right afterward for it to reach a threshold of better than Ledger Shredder. Something like: "With just Lotus and Strix, Emry is a solid 5/10 right now while Ledger Shredder is a 7 or 8. With two more targets Emry would catch up, and more than that could shoot her ahead, but relying on 3 future picks is more than I am in for right now, I think the safe bet is better here. The Esper control deck I seem to be headed towards is paid off more by having a solid set of good cards rather than needing to spike the power of a card like Emry."
