It’s not Boondocks was ahead of it’s time, it’s the fact we are stagnant in progressing.. same thing with Malcolm X speeches, and why they still resonate till this day.. we haven’t moved forward, nor take heed to lessons, wisdom, and speeches provided. So no, it’s not ahead of it’s time.. we just haven’t caught up, as of yet.

Over time many people criticized the show for being either racist or just detrimental to the black people. I'm white and from Eastern Europe, and this show taught me a lot more about black people than any other show or movie. It also did it with love and respect to its people, while openly admitting their flaws. It also had its tender and serious moments. And even the most popular and "problematic" character in the show, Uncle Ruckus is not only funny, but also speaks to you about something more than racism and stereotypes. Every culture has an uncle Ruckus. Post-USSR countries have loads of uncle ruckuses - people who use hateful speech and stereotypes to bring down their own people, while hating themselves and claiming to be a part of other, supposedly better culture (in our case it's either Russian or just general West-European). This is an amazing show. This is art. P.S. Season 4 doesn't exist. We don't talk about it in my house.

many people have said these things both before and after BUT the sad truth of this world is that "the few are always more powerful than the many". a king that rules over a million people does not need anyone's consent or approval to chose what he will have that million people do, but if that million people want to get rid of the king, they need to come together and organize their plot and that is extremely hard. the easy solution is to find another king, give him the power to lead them and then follow him against the former king. this is what you see in all revolutions against "tyranny", the russians replaced the tszar with a dictator, the chinese replaced the emperor with a dictator, the cubans replaced one dictator with another and so on.

I feel like what people miss about the Boondocks is the fact that everyone is wrong in some way. For example, Huey was right about a lot he was, but at the same time there were so many situations he was wrong, even if we thought he was right. Be it things like him just being way too much of a pseudo intellectual, ruining happy situations and others' fun for the sole purpose of making social commentary, or him just not being correct about the issue he's talking about. Most characters are balanced commentaries on the types of people they portray. I loved that so much.

It wasn't ahead of its time it was real and truthful in times(which still continue)when white people close their eyes and act IGNORANT and black people skill keep turning the other cheek and act out of IGNORANCE. If it was the sixties or seventies Aaron McGruder would have been assassinated it sounds extreme but he would have, one black person being awake spreading KNOWLEDGE is to much of a risk for them so things like South Park show vulgarity and crude humour gets a pass and those in charge love that keeps the sheeple in line.

The one thing I enjoyed was that although McGruder has written Huey to heavily criticise society he always has characters who challenge that thinking and there are also moments where Huey has been wrong and too stuck in his ways to see reason or see other people's perspectives. Huey wasn't portrayed as the character who comes out on top everytime and that's what made him relatable.

I became a fan of The Boondocks in 1992 when it was just in the comic strip of the daily newspaper. I had just turned 18, and Huey Freeman just jumped out at me, and others. Kelly made great music, let's continue to love and support Bill Cosby who brought the black family together to laugh on the couch after dinner, we already know you can't step on a man's Nikes, Adidas, Reeboks, Tims, or Clark's, so what else is new? Clothing companies make money off our style! @@MrJadeHappy Peace and blessings. The things you mentioned are not inherently our culture. Some of these attributes were born out of oppression and a lack of knowledge. For example, Ain't nothing beneficial about eating chittlins, pork chops, or pork products. Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge". A lot negative images were downloaded into our spirits via B.E.T and many other 'black' media platforms. Gangster rap music has only benefited the umbrella companies that produced, sold, distributed the music. And secondly the artists. While many of our people idolized that mindset and treat each other as less than humans. The 'positive' things that you mentioned have seriously hurt our people for a long time. And these actions were perpetuated mostly by our people. We were and active participants in our own demise. Black business and black people were used to destroy an area, it’s the one thing that was pushed IRL with liquor stores and corner stores. The best way to get a message across to the audience is using a well written character to represent the writer's point of view. For example you can have Riley comment on body acceptance saying something like, "Being fat isn't cute. Lose some weight." And naturally, the audience will see it as a joke and to not take it too seriously. But if you have Huey speak on it and mentioning how it's "unhealthy to be so big," that would make the bigger impact.
