crossley and dean saunders stories are one of the best of cloughy.. both flawless voices of him . we so need managers these days to bring these egos back down to earth .im thinking part of the problem is the agents... cloughie hated the extras ..probablly why dean never signed for him

I am a birmingham fan, and when i was a kid we was playing forest, and we was outside the ground when the forest team arrived, and there was only a handful of people about and he made all the team sign everyone's program, we hadn't asked, and find particularly want the forest teams autographs. Proper character. Loved him.

I remember going to the forest training ground when I was a little boy with my grandpa and my autograph book. Stuart Pearce signed it then so did Steve chettle. Cloughie then shouted over "oi shithouse, go sign that lads book" I said "Sorry Mark I don't want your autograph, your not very good" They all thought it was hilarious. 😂

Back then managers dealt with players, not through their agents, it's the agents that have killed it, there's no father/son relationship any more, teams used to be extended family, now the only thing a team has in common is the shirt, a shirt that USED to mean the world to a player, now it's just a functional item

I think you'll find 'greatness' is measured in achievement. On that score Clough will be in the lower reaches of a 'top 20' of all time British club managers. If it's 'character' you're referring to then that title will have been retired when he passed away.
@swanseagunner20465 жыл бұрын
@@apathyintheuk265 with clubs he achieved greatest with is unheard of back to back European cups with Nottingham Forest league champions 4 League Cups he got derby up to division 1 champions from the bottom of division 2 in 3 years these were small clubs back then the only thing i can compare it to is Leicester City winning the premier league in 2016 clough done it in the 70s 80s no money im an arsenal fan clough was the best for me Peter Taylor needs a mention aswell his no2
@apathyintheuk2655 жыл бұрын
@@swanseagunner2046 I think Peter Taylor deserves more than a "mention". I don't think it's any fluke Peter Taylor's absence coinciding with Forest's decline as far as titles were concerned. I get what you're saying about Clough - I'm old enough to remember him at his peak (Forest days) and you're right about the achievements at two unfashionable and not particularly rich clubs, add to that his unchallenged charisma - gets him elevated comfortably into the top 10 of all time greatest British club managers.
