@Layal Zamar gosh when i first put them on they told me the therapy would take 4 years, but my orthodontist said i'd take them off by september last year if i put my elastics properly but i didn't care so now i don't know lol

My ortho doesn't talk ... Unless i ask him something which is rare because i'm awkward he doesn't speak to me at all

Mine doesn’t talk either. He just changes something like wire and elastics and says « see you in 6 weeks ». I know nothing about what he’s doing to my teeth. One day his assistant told me he has 90 patients per day and I thought « that’s why he has no time ».

i got my braces on over 3 years ago. i wear rubber bands all day everyday and my teeth are completely straight. my bite and teeth are “perfect” (as they said every month) and they keep waiting more months to get them off. any advice to get them off sooner? UPDATE: they just told me i could get them off on february 7th!! i am so happy :))

You do realise that the medical profession (including orthodontists) are in the employ of the patient, NOT the other way around!? Orthodontists MUST obtain consent for every part of treatment they provide and if the patient wants the braces to come off, the orthodontist MUST immediately comply with the instruction!

Thanks for the nice video doc. I had braces for about a year and my orthodontist told me that it's good to be taken off. I have on overbite but he didn't use elastic bands or any sort to correct it. I am now wearing retainers and as what I have observed, my upper front teeth is shifting. Rn, one of the upper front teeth appears to be longer than the other. What's the best thing to do? My dentist told me that its just fine. I'm afraid I might get braces again.

Why do some people have the wires/brackets in the middle of their teeth and some have their wires/brackets either closer to their gums or towards the bottom of the teeth? Does it depend on how your teeth are?

Bella._. Hi Bella, great question...very astute! The spot where the brackets are placed on the tooth is totally dependent on the patient’s diagnosis and treatment plan and is determined by the orthodontist. Orthodontists are trained to think in terms of fractions of millimeters so subtle changes in the position of the braces can make a big difference in the outcomes. Every patient is different so it’s tough to compare one to the other. Also training and treatment philosophies differ among doctors. As they say, there is more than one way to skin a cat. That said, orthodontists are specialists and have the education and training to treat any sort of patient. Hope this helps!

I just had my 24 month visit. Four months over estimated time but I'm hanging in there. I got a new elastic configuration so I'll be in braces for several more months. Thanks for the detailed explanation from a doctor's perspective. I see mostly straight teeth. Good to know what you're looking at. It helps to know there's more being considered like the jaw and stability topics. Thanks again. UPDATE. 31 MONTHS.. My ortho finally uttered that word I've been waiting to hear 'debonding' appt! So maybe removing them soon. Although I have a feeling it may be the following appt because of minor changes.

I wore top braces for 6.5 yrs and bottom braces added on and installed since 4 yrs ago ... I came from a bad underbite where many of my molars are rotated and take so long so my orthodontist told me probably I can get them off this summer if everything goes as planned!!

i was only supposed to have my braces on for 16 months, but my orthodontist told me i needed to get 4 teeth pulled out. i have had them on for 5 years now and i cannot wait to get them off.

When I got them I was told it will take one year until it’s all done. I did everything I was told and after a few months both my bite and teeth looked amazing but I didn’t get my braces off. It’s been 4 years and my doc keeps telling me I’ll get them off soon but this “soon” never seems to come....

I recently went to my ortho appointment and they said it was possible to get them off that day, or wait 3 more weeks and add a rubber band from the left canine to the far left bottom molar and a triangle at night on the right side. I’m not sure how effective these positions of bands will be in 3 weeks. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the question. Hard to say without seeing your teeth in person, but perfect cooperation with elastics can work wonders, even in a short period of time! I'm sure your orthodontist would not have prescribed those rubber bands unless there was a good reason.
