When Cheapskates Go Too Far (Reacting to Extreme Cheapskates)
My team thought it would be fun to show me some clips of people who are the cheapest of the cheap to see if I approve or disapprove of their extreme money-saving tactics.
And what better place to find those penny-pinchers than the TV show “Extreme Cheapskates” - a show that ran for 3 years on TLC and featured people doing absurd things just to save a buck.
George Kamel is a personal finance expert and co-host of The Ramsey Show. Following Ramsey’s proven money plan, George went from negative net worth to a millionaire in under 10 years. His goal is to help people spend less, save more, and avoid money traps so they can live a life with more margin, options and freedom.
This channel will simplify complex money topics, bust money myths with actual facts, and debunk the stupid financial advice you're seeing in your social media feed. All with a healthy dose of pop culture, humor, and snark.

How are you so frugal that youd steal sauces from a restaurant, but still go to restaurants in the first place

I LOVED 'Extreme Cheapskates' and 'Extreme Couponers'! I don't care if it's all real or not, there were some good tips you could take from their frugal ways but there were also people who desperately needed prayer! Xx

on the cups thing: we actually save glass jars from certain kinds of items like small olive jars and alfredo sauces. They are much better than yogurt cups and still pretty cheap. We have also used egg cartons and restaurant take home containers for seed starting plants in our garden rather than using just the trays.

This video...what George said! These people are either issuing a cry for help or for attention. BTW the dumbest thing I ever heard was a nationwide contest for the cheapest person. My credit union has a coin machine for members (no rolling necessary) that counts your change and gives you a receipt. Take the receipt to the teller and they enter it as a deposit to your account. You can then get paper bills if you want the cash right away. Much better than being a jackass at a restaurant.

Hey gorgeous George! I got a question. What should the process be when I ask myself if I can “afford it ” I am wanting to get my family a new dryer (old ones been broken for a while) ,and sure I have the money, but what should my price range be? And should I even be getting this or have my parents face the decision they have made. I feel like that might be harsh but they have and continue to make bad financial decisions. Would love some feedback! Thanks!
@GeorgeKamel
@GeorgeKamel Жыл бұрын
If you’re in BS4+, and you’re paying cash, get the dryer you want. If it feels unreasonable, tone it down. I usually just look at reviews on Wirecutter, Home Depot, and Lowe’s and get something reasonable. I don’t do fancy tech dyers.

Like most reality shows, this one is heavily scripted, with professionals penning the dialogue. Roughly 20 years ago, production companies began moving away from unscripted reality shows as they were simply too uninteresting. I had an extensive conversation with a staff member of "The Bachelorette", and it seems that this show closely resembles a soap opera in its format. Participants receive a script and film scenes multiple times until they get them right. They don't even shoot the scenes in chronological order. There's strong evidence suggesting that "Extreme Cheapskates" employs a similar approach. Audiences do not really want authenticity, they just want entertainment.

@@kaelaleedaley According to the Energy Saving Trust, hand-washing dishes accounts for 4% of the average household’s water use - whereas dishwashers make up just 1%. In the past, dishwashers might have consumed 10 to 15 gallons of water per cycle. Modern dishwashers, on the other hand, are designed with water efficiency in mind. In fact, the Department of Energy mandates that full-sized dishwashers can use a maximum of 5 gallons of water per cycle. Energy Star-rated appliances require even lower water usage, at 3.5 gallons per cycle. According to a study conducted by the University of Bonn in Germany, washing a full load of dishes by hand uses an average of more than 26 gallons of water. The study also found that handwashing techniques vary widely, with some people using just 8.7 gallons for the task and others using 116!

@@Lifecounselor710 That sounds mental to me! In the UK it's most common to use half a bowl of warm soapy water to wash up in, maximum about 4 ltrs! I have known people to use more but that's considered "posh" as the hot water costs too much! I read in a Which? Study about a month ago that an eco setting on a standard UK dishwasher uses just over 4 ltrs, plus electricity (which is ridiculously priced over here!), plus salt, rinse aid and dishwasher tablets, plus initial appliance cost, installation and maintenance/repair costs. Washing by hand in half a bowl of warm water with a small squirt of watered down washing up liquid (we dilute ours by 50%), with a handmade dishcloth, water warmed on a gas stove is significantly cheaper xx
