A normal, every day conversation with my children, sparked a very thought-provoking question that had me second guessing what I thought would be sure and absolute answer. "Mom do you wish you had been homeschooled?" My initial thought was "Of course not!" But I didn't let her know that. I danced around the real answer and talked about how homeschooling wasn't very common in the 90s. The question kept plaguing me and the more I thought about it, the more I began to question my initial answer and surprised myself with the conclusion I came to about this simple question.

My mom passed away when I was in my 30’s. I wish I had been homeschooled and had been able to spend more time with her.

As someone who went to private and public schools and got bullied at both, I 100 percent would have chosen homeschool if it had been an option. We have a beautiful homeschool community here and my kids have such healthy relationships with everyone, total opposite from my experience growing up!

I went to public school and i always think to myself my children are so blessed the life they're living as homeceducated children, compared to the public school experience.

I was a kid that thrived in school for the academics (not socially - that was awful), but I would have LOVED if either of my parents took any interest in me and my education. I had boomer parents and we were kind of an afterthought. Even as an adult, we are cordial, but they don't make an effort to know me.

I’m sorry to hear that. A lot of parents in previous generations didn’t interact with their kids as much as parents do today (I’m obviously speaking in generalities). But thankfully we can change that narrative and give to our kids wasn’t given.

I wish I had been homeschooled. I don't really know that my mom would have been very good as far as being my teacher, but I loved curriculum from a young age. I was a quick learner and got bored in school easily. I would get used curriculum from our school sales and work through them on my own. As a teenager I was very into coding and would stay up late at night working on teaching myself and making webpages, but I ended up stopping because I didn't have the time for it between going to school and then working the evenings/weekends. The only thing that I enjoyed in school once I got to high school was choir, but we had one or two homeschooled kids that participated in our arts department. I don't have much good to say about my time in middle school/high school, which I understand that's not the same experience for everyone. But as of right now I plan to homeschool our girls the entire way through. I do think this is a question that homeschooling parents should ask themselves though, even just to be able to discuss it with our children as far as what the pros and cons are of each. I try not to talk to my kids like public schooling is the 'wrong' choice, just that it's not the right choice for us and what we want for our family.

I’m not sure they even were honestly, I think it was just the perception. But yes, I think the perception has definitely come a long way since then!

I don't know about me as much, but I think homeschool could have *really* helped my little sister. I don't mean that I wouldn't have loved it, just it could have really made things easier for my sister who really struggled.
