The Asian community has been winning in the media lately with dominating works like Squid Game, Shang Chi, and A24’s Minari. With the recent celebration of Asian accomplishments in the media, there has also been a rise in the hype towards Asian men. Asian men have been celebrated more than ever, but this was not always the case.

Hi to everyone new on this video, I appreciate all the comments & opinions you are sharing below. I love engaging in conversations like this. I just wanted to put a note stating that I am NOT dissing Asian men by saying they were never attractive. That’s simply just the title + I am explaining how they were not always portrayed as attractive in western media. Thus, now they are getting the recognition and celebration they deserve after all these years of being limited to Hollywood’s boxes. If you watch and listen to the full commentary of the video, the point is to uplift and praise Asian men. Thank you. :)

When I first got into kpop 10 years ago, I remember getting made fun of for finding Asian men attractive. I was terrified to show my friends videos because I knew they would say something awful about their hair or clothes or makeup, some even misgendering them or assuming their sexuality. But slowly that's changed! Even in the last 2 or 3 years I've noticed how almost no one misgenders or emasculates them but instead I have friends sending me pics of idols they saw on Twitter and demanding information because they find them so attractive. That's something 2012 me could have never imagined!

The main issue Asian men have is their height. I know this because I am white and I struggled and it was simply because I was 5'7. Asian men also have a less masculine facial bone structure. These blue pill videos gas lighting Asian men are not helping them. I get the thought but al it will do is decisive them into thinking they're suddenly hot and the real world will quickly bring them back to reality
@KFC431
@KFC431 Жыл бұрын
@@StevenSmith-mk5fg don't worry about height. Due to good nutrition brought by industrialisation, the average asian height is growing rapidly. New gens of asians are getting much taller and you can notice that from some white country that used to have an average height of only 165cm for men and went up to 185cm due to food being available. Asia didn't had early undustrialisation due to war as well. About masculinity... america has it's own taste of what is masculine. But they are not able to reach both being masculine and pretty. It's kind of like a unique case for asians. About reality. I personally don't want to date white girls because in terms of appearance I think they age faster. I've had many girls from different ethnicity asking me to date them but sadly 80% of them were white, french, ukrainian(thought she was russian💀), arabic. Tbh I don't even know what type of girl I'm into. I'm also not even interested in the kpop type... It's probably also because it's about personality as well. I was really surprised when I heard all these bad things about asian guy's being disliked during the pandemic, since I live a completely opposite life of what media is portraying and that really baffles me. Maybe it's because there's more racism in the US compared to canada? Idk. But what I hear from media only encourages me to imprive myself even further. It gives me motivation to get better in all aspect.

i mean the first Hollywood sex symbol was Asian. Sessue Hayakawa was a massive silent film star during the silent film era, but due to anti-miscegenation laws, he can only play villains. He makes all women moist to the point that every time he appears on-screen, women scream his name. I'm so disappointed no one really knows the story of this legend.

Talking about nerdy, unattractive, feminine Asian men while showing John Cho (easily one of the sexiest men alive) seems contradictory. The ability for Asian men to embrace their femininity without loosing their masculinity is precisely what has ALWAYS made them insanely attractive. Also Asia is a big continent...seems that you are restricting "Asian" to a particular sub-set within a massive population that includes India, Russia, Sri Lanka, Nepal among many others. That is akin to defining all "Americans" as being from the US. A single viewing of a Bollywood movie features countless beautiful Asian men (Dev Patel anyone) who are clearly not who you are talking about here.

You have a very big miss understanding here. Let me educate you about most of tge uneducated mean by asian: When most people in modern day society say asian, they refer to ethnicities that mostly share similar traits to east asians like chinese, korean, japanese, vietnamese, taiwanese and more. Russians and indians for example share no similar facial structure to east asians since people see indians sharing more features with the middle easterners and russian more white that are geographically on the asia continent. Here's a bit about history: us east asians who received the title of asians were discriminated for a long time from propagandas during wars in east asia such as japan and vietnam war. Media portrayed us as tiny, violent pricks, ugly, rappist that are drooling over white womens(chinese exclusion act propaganda) and holding them at gun point. Then over time we are portrayed as effeminated, weak, nerdy. So looking at history: as you can see, no one wanted to associate themselves with being asians, even the ones living on asian continent. Most of them didn't give a sh*t about being asian and didn't want to associate themselves with it except east asians who were stuck with that title by default from americans. Now that east asians are gaining more popularity, I feel like people want to associate themselves with being asians. And using geography to do it. Yes, in terms of geography you are asian but not in term of identity. It was just to identify continents and not groups of people. We were clearly called asians as a meaning of a sub-human class term and it identified who we are as a group and we kept marching forward and progress with that identification as being labeled as asians. Other countries that are in asia but are not east asian countries are not called asians and are called directly by the name of their people and country name. I just wish that people stop plsying dumb. We all know where this started and people knew what they meant by the term asian to identify east asians and not asia as a whole. Once we will start using the term specifically east asians then will people all identify themselves as east asians to simply have been born in east asia? It's as if I'd call myself white because I was born in america. In conclusion, we were already stuck with the term asian by default and everyone got used to it. Everyone knew saying asian they meant east asians but magically until now, things ha changed in some people and want to be called asians as well. FROM NOW ON CANADIANS ARE AMERICANS BECAUSE THEY ARE IN AMERICA. Let's keep following the same logic. Mexicans are americans, jamaican are americans. But those people would rather not want to associate themselves as fat eating people who thinks they are superior by race(stereotype but sadly some americans online are renforcing them). There's literally nothing wrong calling east asians as asians since we were already identified that way and there's nothing wrong calling only the ones that lives in the United States americans. It portrays history and identity. It doesn't limits itself as only geography but because of the name people play dumb. Just stop playing dumb pls. Thanks.

@@KFC431 if you'd call yourselves east asians and not reserving the asian term only for yourselves, no one would have a problem with that. as it is, asia geographically and politically stretches from the mediterranean east to the west pacific ocean, encompassing all the countries that fall inside this area. all the people who live in this area are thus also "Asians", not just the peoples who live in east Asia.

Thank you for making this vital video. Should definitely get more views. One thing I'll add is that it isn't so much that male Kpop bands are challenging what it means to be masculine with their more feminine fashion/make-up - that has already been done early on by other male artists, from 70s glam rock heroes David Bowie and Marc Bolan, to rnb legend Prince, and also many new wave bands like Duran Duran and Psychedelic Furs. However, Kpop boy bands are challenging Western acceptance of Asian males fitting into that market. It's as if to say, hey, other races (especially white) have been accepted (and even celebrated) as feminine fashion forward music artists - why can't Asian males?

It's incredibly important to note Korean dramas and shows have always been this way. They don't cater to an American audience like Crazy Rich Asians tried to. The Korean cast and Korean show did nothing different to appear attractive. They just were themselves. It's nothing new that Korean actors and actresses get widely famous from acting but Netflix just gave them a bigger audience. To say that a Korean cast was "not stereotypical at all" is really silly and doesn't have anything to do with American shows who intentionally add Asian characters to get a laugh out of mostly a white audience. Also Crazy Rich Asians should have been named Crazy Rich Chinese bc it doesn't and didn't represent Asian people as a whole.

Thank you for making this video! We need more Asian men and women supporting each other. I think other topics to explore are “traditional masculinity” which is heavily influenced by white/American culture as well as mixed Asian actors/East Asian actors (as opposed to darker skin or SEA) who are marketed as ‘acceptable’ to American audiences. Maybe the most important of all is celebration of any Asian aspect being ‘accepted’ by Hollywood/Oscars/Grammys or mainstream white/American culture which inherently means we still give them power to deem what is acceptable instead of holding our own power and worth through our own means of celebration 💪🙌

I think I moved to US from East Asia at right timing back in 2012, I witnessed how K pop was storming the the entire Asia with Girls' Generation and Super Junior. But at the time, I never know Asian men are considered unattractive in the West, especially US, I remember Gangnam Style was the first K pop song that successfully landed in US market back in 2012 because at the time, my PE teacher told us we're going to have a dance competition for our class, he told us to find 4 people and make our own dance moves for competition. My classmates were fighting to get me into their group because I was the only East Asian guy in the class and they all want to do Gangnam Style for dance competition in PE class, but as I said, I never knew Asians were considered unattractive in US, so I thought racism in US is overrated, Americans are actually nicer than I thought. Then I also got a couple Latina and white girls that shows affections or just straight off confessed to me the next year when I still barely speak any English. I never feel Americans think Asian guys are unattractive when I was in high school, nor I ran into any racism(I do get it from Asian Americans for self hate though, but that's another topic), perhaps I don't fit the typical short Asian guys with small eyes stereotype, so people usually don't mess with me. The only one time was a black guy from Guatemala framed me and got me into trouble which ended up with detention time for me, and I was so pissed the next day, the dude still try to make a joke about it, then I went to his face and was ready to punch, he then apologized. On the other hand, my sister gets more racism experience than me, but she always refuse to talk about it until we're all in our 20s, I guess it has something to do with her being an Asian female who doesn't speak English at the time. After I start working, I noticed Asians are indeed got discriminated a lot by other older Americans, for Gen Z Americans and Americans who are age 35 under now, most of them are just nice, I think it's because we all growing up with internet and Asian influence such as anime and K pop, so these Americans are "normal" most of time to treat POCs. With that being said, Covid-19 hits while K pop was rising, Americans seem to hate Asians again at a large scale,and currently dating market in US is not very good for American guys, 60% of the American male under age 30 are single, so Asians having K pop and getting some girls pisses off other guys, especially non-white American guys, I've noticed that multiple times at multiple occasions. America was good to live for me back in 2012-2018 I'd say, but now it's just getting worse and worse with hate crimes and robberies, many people are getting poor then blame on immigrants, whether they're legal or illegal, and they certainly dislike Asian face more. I do start thinking going back to East Asia, since many western girls nowadays go to East Asia to find love and escape from US dating market, I personally have a preference to date non-Asian girls due to my personal experience interacting with girls in US. I can still have a chance to date them in East Asia without feeling live in danger and worry about being suddenly attacked for my race, I get to be with my entire family and see my friends again. The only con for me to go back to East Asia is I'll make less and with longer working hours and stressful working environment, so I'm still thinking if I should do it.

Hi there, If you watch the video it’s a commentary on how Asian men have been portrayed in western media over the years. The title is just a title, and ofc Asian men are attractive! However, even the most handsome actors have been given stereotypical roles that portray them as “unattractive Asian men” before. It’s gotten a lot better for Asian men in western media though as we’re breaking those barriers that limit them to certain roles or stereotypes.

Just recently a comedian asian men said let's start being fetishize. I get it and understand what he meant by that. Not asian by the way. But an asian women who is also a comedian doesn't want that and if you seen comedy stands out from asian women they bash the asian men. Here in the usa we saw them as weak and nerdy types of men and weird too. But if you start learning history of the past for an example japan. Japan was a power house during the early 20th century and the history behind. Bruce lee encouraged men from different races or inspired them to become mma fighters. If you look outside of Hollywood, you see from the asian men being tough and good looking(no homo). This could also help the Asiancels( incels from the asian community or black pill) that it's time to step out of that dark shadows and start learning to be a men in the usa now. For me I thought of them that way until I started realizing the history of ww2 between usa vs japan, the rise of kpop during my high school, one of my favorite soccer players from Korea( who is well respected by the country of Mexico and the Mexican community in the usa). An asian man name jonny kim who became a navy seal, doctor, an astronaut. Jonny kim backstory and his time during war back in 06 got me to cry in tears one day from walking back home after work. Which is also why I'm joining the military(the marines). Its their time to shine and hopefully it will be well done.

Good looking Asian men always had pretty privilege in the West, it’s just more represented. When women says they love Asians they usually mean some kdrama actor or bts member. Just look at how they ignore RM from BTS, because he’s the member who’s closer to what an average looking east-Asian would look like despite being handsome ( darker skin, small slanted eyed, monolids, chubby cheeks, small jaw, recessed chin). They mostly fawn over taehyung who’s unsurprisingly the ones who fits most of the westerner standards and who’s the most white passing member. Jackson Wang is also super popular with westerners because he have a masculine face and westerner features. It’s like saying that black women became the new beauty standard, and then showing a pic of Beyonce and Zendaya when they are extremely light skinned.

I really wish people would stop saying Asians and black people (Africans) have western features we don't unless we are biracial or heavily mixed (Zendaya). Asians have asian features and black people have African features. Longer, slimmer noses and wide eyes are not western owned. Plenty of black and Asians have those features and can trace them thousands of years with little to no European contact. You think you sound woke but you sound ignorant saying "western features". Black and Asian people have "acceptable" African and Asian features for western audiences we still look black or Asian we just don't have features that "offend" white people because they are not as pronounced or are features white people like.

Also Dev patel’s performance in The Green Knight is a great one. Let’s not forget Anupam Tripathi’s incredible performance in Squid game. So when you say Asian you mean East Asian with almost complete exclusivity on south Korea? Yellow face doesn’t mean American actors playing Asians it means American actors playing *East Asian* actors. And yellow face in classic Hollywood referred to Chinese characters played by Americans, and overtime some Japanese characters too but it’s only more recently there has been were Korean characters not played by Koreans. “Koreans have been represented in North American film and television for almost a century. However, in the early part of the 20th century most representations took place only through the actual bodies of Korean American actors who were portraying Chinese or Japanese characters in American films. The practice of crossethnic, and even crossracial, casting was common for Asian characters in these earlier productions. It was not until the mid-20th century that Korean American actors began to portray ethnically Korean characters. However, these roles often required them to speak, dress, and act as if they were not assimilated to American culture, contributing to the stereotype of Asians as perpetual foreigners to Western society. Since the turn of the 21st century there have been more opportunities for Korean Americans and Korean Canadians to draw from their own lived experiences in their portrayals of characters who speak unaccented English and whose cultural backgrounds are not necessarily their most distinguishing features. Consciously challenging discriminatory practices and countering stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans led to shifts in media representations and more fully developed portrayals of Korean North American characters” Korean North Americans in Film and Television, Eun Joo Kim, Oxford research encyclopedia of literature, 2019 So this video is almost meta irony, the video tries to explain the implications and harm of orientalism but simultaneously also just orientalises all of east Asia and just forgets 40+ countries. What about west Asia? That has a completely different history of attractiveness and stereotypes in western culture. What about other east countries that aren’t Korea? Japan, China, Taiwan, Mongolia have different history and contexts than laid out in this video while actually some of their context has been lifted and put into Korean/“Asian” historic context If you’re talking about Korea say Korea if you’re talking about east Asia say east Asia. If you’re talking about Asia as a whole then say Asia.

the order of sexual attractionis of east asia men is pretty messy. why?due to the instinct of gender,Women rarely express their inner thoughts! since east asian males have the same gene as females, only the difference at XX or XY, how could it be possible that east asian women is the most attrictive then completely oppositely the east asian men with the same gene become into the least attractive group? I supposed, In previous periods the right to speak out originally from white women's mouth ,in this point, has been taken by white men, who were filled with sexually competitive conscious . then in the white Western world,the attraction of East Asian men are acctually evaluated from the white male, rather than female! Formed the mainstream consciousness of the poor image of Asian men. Yes,in east asian you would see that some East Asian women choosed a Western white man, don't forget the social and living environment of East Asians.(Helplessness,Poverty,Dictatorship,) it is most because of her own’s ,or her country's poverty ,or she needs to face economic problem, life problem ,and other social problems, then she can not consider more in choosing a mate, she would choose the shortcut for wealth and status! Don't forget that : in east asian ,you also usually see that a beauty would marry a ugly rich man,rather than a handsome without money! besides that, black guys are also on the list that some east asian women got married with!Can it prove that East Asian women prefer ugly guys or black guys? however it seems this situation rarely happened in the western 1st world and no one is going to pay attention to that,own to that almost all white 1st world are developed countries,and white women needn't to fact these economic or life promblems in the reality,which makes them have more independent consciousness following herself instincts! You can assume that if the white guy has a same circumstances of birth,growth,and status as the native East Asian men,who could become the east asian women’s prefer? [another way]: we should also find that in the upper echelons society of East Asia, most beautiful women with wealth and status..., such as TV or Movie Stars,how many of them had prefered a white guy in their first marriage of life? How many female stars in China, Japan and Korea,get married to white guys? hardly any Unless they get old lossing their beautiful face or divorce . --------Taiwan's Lin Chi-ling married a Japanese entertainer, --------HongKong's Lin Qing-xia(Brigitte Lin) married a Hong Kong businessman. --------Chinese movie star Gong Li's first three husbands were all East Asian or Singaporean,till her 4th hunsband finnally was a white westerner's turn when she was in her 50s ...etc... I know it's hard for white guys to accept it , however it is a FACT! The above is overall and on average. at last ,Nothing is absolute, it all depends on the person.a balck woman also can be more beautiful than a east asia women, this situation of course is existing!
@user-mm3ge6br3g
@user-mm3ge6br3g Жыл бұрын
In fact, East Asians are not competitive character . On the aggressive character of the World's 3 major races: Black > White > Yellow (East Asians used to call themselves "Yellow",I know this word ,if in west ,is not a good word. ) in the early periord of west white world(EU,NA),There is a very small East Asian population (immigration) ,many major media venues, like Hollywood, are dominated by white,they tended to pick up East Asian male who looked older,shorter, or weaker,to join them, which can be considered as a part reason of creating the stereotypes of east asian of today. But when it comes to East Asian women's turn, they can't hide their instinct that East Asian women are the most beautiful women. (Of course ,in the early times of East Asia,white settlers from west were also described as bearded, dirty savages,never young handsome!This is also a stereotype!) So,If you want to know whether the East Asian male is as bad as early rumors, Or they are in the same Level as East Asian women? then don't listen to the media. come to east asia 5 countries: Japan, Taiwan(R.O.C), China(P.R.C),South Korea, North Korea(--!),( some of South Asian countries, such as Thailand,Singapore... also have the same race as East Asia,) it would open your eyesl..

That book did not stand the test of time because it was not a best seller. The same can be true today in terms of an Asian man dating a White hot attractive Woman. It will take many years for the majority to accept the minority when it comes to dating, smashing, one night stands, and marriage. Anglo Women have 8 billion years of Preference for their own race of Men. One day in the late future, but you will see a Marina Anna Eich ( a hot German Anglo model) date someone who looks like Brandon Lee. But for anyone to say that this will be the standard right now or in 3 years is totally mistaken. It's easier for an Asian Anglo lady be married to a White man than it is for a pure Chinese man be married to a Kelly Christiansen or to a Marina Anna Eich Anglo Woman. Some things will take many years to come to fruition! October 29, 2023. USA.

After having grown up NEVER recieving that sort of attraction, suddenly receiving it feels therapeutic. Then again, are these women actually interested in me, or are they just into the feminized aestethic as a power fantasy, like how white men fetishize asian women for their "docile nature," or are they just closeted Bi sexual or lesbian women who think they like men, but are attracted the feminized look?

ABC. Born in 83. I’m with you. Frankly, attention from women now pisses me off. Females are followers and most are too damn stupid to know they can’t form their own opinions. Yes, I said it.
