I guess Peyton Reed, aside from absolutely being drunk, was attributing Cassie's age to Abby Ryder Fortson's age DURING FILMING. Born in March 2008, She was six when they shot Ant-Man from August to December 2014, and she was nine when Ant-Man and the Wasp was shot from August to November 2017. And then, he didn't even do math, but knew Cassie had to be 18 in Quantumania.
@AbitofEverything4U

Yes I think you nailed it. What's just so weird is that Reed wouldn't take 5 seconds to do a word search on his scripts to find that they gave Cassie the age 10 in AM&TW. That's how I found that line. Took like no time at all. Sigh. But that's what happens when you truly believe that you can take the timeline and "throw it all out the window". Ugh.

The age thing with Cassie and miscalculation with Homecoming are equally frustrating haha The latter more so, since they have the big title card, plus it mentioned once or twice by Toomes about Avengers 1, and Happy with “8 years” mentioned in relation to Iron Man 1’s 2008 release date

Yes, I was very disappointed in Peyton Reed for not doing research on his own movies to see that Cassie was 10 in AM&TW. I do hope his sentiment that things "get thrown out the window" was more a case of him trying to cover up his mistakes. It certainly doesn't provide confidence in the book if it is Marvel's philosophy overall, but I hope that isn't the case. I agree with you exactly. I walked out of the movie theater on the premiere night at the 7 PM showing in Baton Rouge Louisiana. I walked out of that show thinking this was one heck of a movie. I really enjoyed it. It further the story along. I get to my car that’s in a parking garage and I turn on KZfaq and the first thing I see on KZfaq is people bashing Ant-man quantum mania. And I watch the first video. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing in that video. They’re trying to compare it to the comic books and it should be crystal clear by now that the comics and the MCU are two totally different separate properties where the MCU draws from the comic books, but has its own way of telling stuff. If these were selected straight from the comics and not changed, why would we want to go to the movies and see them in the first place when we know exactly how it will end. Don’t know when people will get it through their thick skulls that it’s two different properties.

5:54 Cassie telling Scott “its not my birthday” & he says “well I’m making up for all the ones I missed” Is why I don’t think its best to say Quantumania happens over the course of 3 days. Its possible what we see is him giving a full “catch up” from him returning to the snap because both him & Hope have a date on a red carpet, plus meeting with their suits in various places & the book tour. I would summate the actual plot does occur over a few days but not everything in the movie as its meant to give you a “heres what happened since the last time you saw me” Which means its possible the ending could occur months after the fight with Kang. Should be noted we also don’t know how much time passed in the real world from when he went into the Quantum Realm. Scott mentions “we don’t know how much has changed since we’ve been going it could be years again” It may not be years but it could have weeks or months.

I think when they made the original Ant-Man they intended her to be 6 in that movie because they hired a 6 year old actor and then that changed haphazardly in Ant-Man and the Wasp when they wrote in the quote from Scott saying she’s 10. But in the producer’s mind she was still originally 6 and it was reconned to fit better with the timeline they made.
@AbitofEverything4U
@AbitofEverything4U Жыл бұрын
Yup, I suspect you nailed it regarding them retconning Cassie's age to be the actresses age in AM 1. Ironically, the actress was around 9 1/2 when they filmed AM&TW, so the 10 year old line worked better for that film. But I do think they messed up the timeline, because AM 1 is in 2015 and if she's 6 in that, then she's not 18 until 2027, which is two years past when the movie is taking place in 2025. So if they really did mean to retcon her age, they messed it up pretty badly in the process. She needs to be 8 in 2015 to be 18 in 2025. Sigh. Oh well, it was still a great movie. So we just chalk it up as one more error that is annoying but in the end doesn't matter that much. Thanks so much for watching the vid and leaving your feedback. Really appreciate it!

@@AbitofEverything4U I think the other thing to remember is that for a lot of the people working on these movies, they aren’t super fans like we are. It’s work for them and they probably get tired of people always asking them about things they think are not very important. And yes it would be nice for there to be a unified Timeline Keeper or Script Supervisor on set that’s able to say something like, “no the math doesn’t work out for her to be 6 at the end of 1, She had to be 7. Can we change that?” Because of course that doesn’t matter to the rest of the movie, just the continuity of the MCU as a whole. But it seems like either that isn’t how it goes throughout the production of these movies, or it is and those timeline people also make errors and let mistakes slip through the cracks.

Yeah, very good points. But all I can say is if I was directing the third part of my trilogy, I would want internal dates to make sense. And since Cassie's age was a key factor in the new movie, I can't imagine not checking to see if we had given her an age in the earlier movies. Heck, I spent 5 minutes online, found the script, and did a word search on the word "year" and that's how I found the line about her being 10. Took like 5 minutes. So I just don't get not having enough pride in your work that you would double check your own movie. Again, it took me 5 minutes. Oh well, guess Peyton doesn't care that much. Yup, I totally agree that in-universe the mistake makes sense and is very understandable for Cassie to forget. My bigger concern was that the writer and director of the movie thought she was 6 as well...Peyton Reed said as much in his interviews. Additionally, Peyton said she was 9 in AM&TW (a movie he directed) even though Scott said she was 10 in the movie. So what drove me nuts was they totally retconned her age and didn't even seem to acknowledge they retconned it, making it seem like it was a lack of attention to detail. Very weird. But it seems the plan was to do the retcon to make her be 18 in the year 2026. I'm still not sure why that was so important to them, but it seems that was their goal. Hope that makes sense. In Shang Chi, Far From Home and Ms. Marvel, you state the errors in placing them due to real life celebrations not taking place where they should. My thoughts are that the blip caused these various events to be placed different in the MCU than the real world, like the Festival of Lights not taking place in October since maybe there were not enough people to justify doing it that month. Yes, I think that makes alot of sense. The blip was a catastrophic event in the MCU and wasn't even a nice clean 5 years, but rather was around 5 1/2 years (May, 2018 to Oct, 2023), so I could definitely see that messing up the timing of some of the festivals since they probably didn't celebrate them during the blip. Excellent feedback! Thanks so much for watching the vids and sharing your thoughts on the timeline. Really appreciate it!

I really liked this movie. A strong start to phase 5, even if I think it's the weakest movie to start a phase so far (many will say Iron Man 3, but I love that movie lol). Kang and MODOK were great, End credits were great, it was a solid 7/10 for me. The VFX were a really rough in a few places imo, but that's okay. Regardless, into Gotg3, my most anticipated MCU film since 2017. So excited!!

Haha, great video. Yeah, I'm of the mind that Quantumania happens in July 2025, and Cassie (and Peyton Reed) are simply wrong about her age in Ant-Man. But it's quotes like these that have got me skeptical about this timeline book (or at least made me feel validated about my skepticism, haha).

Yep, agree on all points. My hope is that Peyton just got lazy and didn't do his homework and now he's covering for himself by saying the timeline gets "thrown out the window". Just left the theater a couple of hours ago, and I'm in agreement with you, on both counts. While I realize time isn't what you think it is, the writers were clearly incorrect. Also, this film was much better than L&T, which I didn't hate, but was just okay. My letter grades for the two are B-/C+ for L&T, and B+ for Quantumania. Great video, but at one point, you said that you didn’t understand the Rotten Tomatoes rating of 48%. I think you are correct that you don’t understand it. The RT score is only the percentage of positive reviews, not an average of the ratings. So 48% does not mean that the average rating was 48%. 48% means that on average, 48% of the reviewers gave it a positive review (60+ points on a 100 point scale). To put it another way, a film that receives 48% of the reviews as 5 stars, and 52% as 2 stars, would get the same RT score (48%) as a film that receives 48% of the review as 3 stars and 52% as 1 star. I hope I’m explaining that clearly, and that maybe it helps a bit. Thanks again for a great video. I think you’re spot-on with your analysis!
@AbitofEverything4U
@AbitofEverything4U Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a great explanation of the RT scoring system. Thanks! Yeah, I should done a better job of explaining my response to the RT score. I'm down with the rating logic RT is using to determine the overall score, I was more just surprised that QM ended up with a score so low in comparison to other MCU movies as well as other comic movies in general. It wasn't my favorite MCU movie or even top 10, but I think several other MCU movies would rank lower so I was just surprised that it received an RT score beneath movies like Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Dark World and Love and Thunder, as a few examples. But I guess the box office does seem to reflect a lower score, as it turns out. Thanks so much for watching the vid and sharing your thoughts. Really appreciate it!

I don’t know if it helps out, but I watched the movie and to answer the Cassie ‘Birthday’ situation at the end, Scott said that since he missed a few birthdays with Cassie, she deserved to have an extra. I really liked Kang and Janet in this movie. It was finally cool to see Michelle Pfeiffer play Janet and be the rouge fun to Hank’s more scientific nature. My only wish was that Hope got more to do this movie, and that the chemistry between Kathryn Newton and Paul Rudd can improve because not gonna lie, in comparison too Emma and Abby, I didn’t really feel that connection that’s been the core of the Ant-Man films.

@AbitofEverything4U

Definitely agree that the age error didn't alter my enjoyment of the movie. It was alot of fun and I don't get the critic ratings at all. Kang was amazing and will be a force to recon with thruout Phases 5 and 6. My issue with the age gaffe, however, is due to the fact that it was Peyton's own movie that he was contradicting, which is just plain lazy. There was no reason to retcon her to age 6 and 9, as she would be age 18 in QM if he had left it as is with her being ages 8 and 10. By changing her ages, he created the issue with QM now being in 2027. Plus, then he said they "throw the timeline out the window" at the same time Marvel wants us to drop $50 on a supposed official timeline book. So ultimately, I care about the timeline because Marvel said they care about the timeline. Thus, Peyton's is really mocking Marvel more than us. The same people that paid him to make the movie are the same people he's thumbing his nose at simply because he was too lazy to spend 5 minutes (that's all it took me) to research Cassie's actual age in the movies. Really just sad. But yes, loved the movie regardless of Peyton's drunken interview. Phase 5 has started off well and will only get better from here! Thinking about it more, I think it would’ve been better if Peyton Reed didn’t say anything about Cassie being 18 in this movie. Because had that been left ambiguous she could be whatever age matches the actual timeline of events. By saying she’s 18 in the movie explicitly creates issues.

Yes, good point. I think Peyton should have left well enough alone and not said anything. However, he actually was correct that if the movie is in 2025 after her b-day in July, then she is 18. His screw up was he didn't look at his earlier movies to get her age right in those. He made up age 6 and age 9, when neither were correct. Considering that Peyton finished his quote by saying the timeline "is thrown out the window", I suspect that nothing he said makes much sense. But to your point, if he wants to retcon Cassie to be 6 in Ant Man1 and 9 in AM&TW, then she'd be 16 in 2025. Kathryn Newton definitely doesn't look 16 and I don't suspect he meant for her to be that young. So basically, Peyton made no sense at all, as far as I can tell. I'd rather assume she was 8 in AM1, 10 in AM&TW (which was stated in the movie) and 18 in QM. That makes the most sense with what was already stated in the movies and with what I believe was the intent with QM. Just so frustrating that something so simple is such a mess. Sigh.

A movie can have flaws and I still enjoy it. For me its definitely an 84/100 for me, loved it, it was so flashy and cool! Kang was fantastic, he's probably my favourite marvel villain ever. I actually have a collaborative writing project, kinda like the MCU, where all my friends write stories in the same universe as eachother and trust me, the job of timekeeper got so incredibly difficult we just threw it away. It's a personal project, so we have more leeway of mistakes, but trust me when I say forgetting stuff like this happens all. the. time with us Every few weeks someone will realise "Actually this age doesn't line up with this and this doesn't line up with that" and we just have to say "Dammit" and move on hehe.

I just don't see how Peyton messed that up so bad. Plus, the math puts QM in 2027 if she's 6 in AM1. Ugh. A very good explanation to the whole Cassie age thing could be that she is 9 in 2018 and 18 in 2026. What reed said could be right. I have a dad and he is always missing my age and my sisters by one or two years.same thing goes with my grandparents even if we are really close. So I think that the expression 10 year old could work for anybody between the ages of 8 to 11. 9 and a half is in that area. So then it can confirm what reed said about her being 9. An explanation to why he said that Cassie was 6 could be that she turned 7 since it was 2 and a half years or something prior to any man 2 but instead of considering the day that she turned 7 maybe he said 6 because he was thinking prior to her actual date of birth or something. It would be still wrong but it kinda works. Then of course though there’s Cassie’s age in 2025/2026. The reasonable thing to do, if listening to reed (hopefully not drunk reed), is to put her 18th birthday in 2026. That contradicts Nate Moore’s statement but I he was the same guy who practically said that he didn’t know what he was talking about. I don’t know. It’s caos.

Also, regarding Ant-Man, Cassie already had her birthday at the beginning of the movie, so when she was attacked, she would be her new age after her b-day. So if she was 6 at that point, she'd really be 18 in 2027. Reed is just wrong. He has to be. Well, drunk and wrong. 🤣 Thanks so much for watching the vid and sharing your thoughts. Yeah, MODOK's death was a little rushed, although I was okay with it in the end. There wasn't any future for his character, per se. But it was rushed. As for a video on the delays, I should probably do that. It's been crazy how fast things have been changing, so I suspect as soon as I make a vid on it, it will change again. But I do agree it's a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just watched the movie yesterday, so I'm now catching up on your videos. I believe Kang did die in the end. Or at least THIS variant of Kang died. The thing about Kang is that there are a million versions of him around the Multiverse, all extremely powerful. In this movie they're even explaining that the reason why this Kang was in the Quantum Realm to begin with is that he was defeated and exiled Realm by the other Kangs when he tried to fight them, so it's implied that this Kang is among the weakest of them! I'm genuinely excited to see how this new story will play out!

Yes, there's no doubt that predicting anything in regards to the Multiverse Saga will be very difficult. The only reason I think this Kang survived is it would be abit odd for Marvel to kill off a Kang so quickly. Plus, going into that multiversal engine doesn't seem like it would kill him but would instead making him infinitely more powerful. But that said, your theory makes very good sense, too. Gonna be alot of fun watching to see how the Multiverse Saga continues to unfold in the months to come!

I think you could compromise and have it be that Cassie is 6 but turns 7 during Ant Man in 2015 (if she literally just turned 7, Cass messing it up and saying she was 6 is only a few days off), 9 but only a couple months off turning 10 in Ant Man 2 (If Scott was talking to Cassie he'd obviously know to be specific, but conversationally to other adults, he rounds up), 15 in Endgame late 2023, then has just turned 17 in Quantumania and you can still place it in 2025 (close enough where the "becoming an adult" theme still applies, and Peyton is just slightly off) Maybe I've not gotten the timeline exact and there's something I've missed that doesn't make it possible, but I think it works if they went with that. I don't put much weight into the director statements (especially after the recent one), or the characters' conversational mentions of age 6 and 10 referencing Cassie in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
@AbitofEverything4U
@AbitofEverything4U Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've tried to run the numbers to make it work, but I just think Peyton was wrong. Here's why I think that: - Ant Man 1 (July - Aug, 2015): Let's say she starts and 6 and is 7 when she's attacked. And then in QM, she just says 6 by accident. - Ant Man & The Wasp (Apr - May, 2018): She would be 9 - End game (Oct, 2023): She would be 15 - Quantumania (July, 2025): She would be 17 instead of 18 (she'd turn 18 in 2026) So she's too young in QM and it means that Scott was wrong in AM&TW. I just think the issue is Peyton didn't do the math. It's very disappointing, but oh well, I still enjoyed the movie, so that's good. Anyway, I really appreciate you watching the vid and sharing your ideas. Thanks so much for doing that!

Great video. I personally enjoyed the movie and the villains, I think they were consistently good through the movie, my only problem with them is their last scenes/parts Spoilers if you didn't watch the movie . . . . . . . . MODOK had a very rushed redemption, the whole movie was taunting or killing people, but then just because Cassie told him something he bacame good in the last moment and call Scott a brother, I guess we have to assume he is crazy (the avenger joke was funny unlike the brother one) Kang, he was show as a threat in the movie, but "Kang the Conqueror" is suppose to be the main Kang and the main villain of not just the phase, the saga. And the fact that he was "killed" by Antman and co. kills a lot of tension for future movies, because if they can defeat him when the stakes are lower why wouldn't all the Avengers defeat him when the stakes are higher? I say this cause in this movie his whole motivation is to escape, after that he is going to fight other Kangs so he isn't an immadiate threat to 616, Marvel Studios could have him winning here an just defeat him later when he tries to conquer/destroy 616, that way you solidly establish him as a villain and threat. What is worse is that one of the trailers created controversy for showing to much, one of the scenes was from the final fight were Scott says "we both have to lose" but that dialogue ments nothing cause the good guys win 100%, Kang is sent to a probability world or whatever, Scott survives and even returns home safely with Hope. An storm is forming, yeah but that is tomorrow, today they won. One more thing for Kang, they nerfed him without shame during the battle, he was desintegrating people easily untill the protagonist appear, and there's no explanation of why he couldn't desintegrate them like the rest, seriously this movie aimed so hard to the simplistic happy ending. About Hope, all I can say is that I liked the moments of her and Scott, that being said I thing the movie should be Antman and Stinger/Stature Quantumania cause they focused more on Scott and Cassie and Hope barely had anything to do aside from figthing

I think Reed was correct that she's 18 in the movie, but incorrect that she was 6 in Ant-Man. Her stated age of 10 in AM&TW actually works perfectly with her being 18 in 2025. 17:09 It was too weird for critics & general audiences. It lacked the realism edge most MCU films have because that was their niche. Bring superheroes to our world. Iron Man is “What If Iron Man Existed in the Real World” thats why it was a hit. Its taking from the influence of Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The “how would this be possible” Quantumania defies this premise. Where the first 2 Ant-man films had a lot of realistic application, this film doesn’t. The Quantum Realm didn’t feel believable. I liked the film but the reason the MCU is successful because it forced audiences to suspend disbelief by trying to make it applicable in our reality its one of the reasons some ppl prefer Marvel over DC. No made up cities, Spider-man is swinging in NYC & people can relate to it. Also her intellect level is weird because in the comics, intelligence isn't one of her forte, but she could make a device to enter the quantum realm herself? There are only 3 certified child/young genius in the MCU that is consistent with the comics and those are Shuri, Peter Parker and Riri Williams. We never have any evidence that Cassie is super genius (she isn't even related to the Pyms/van Dynes) and bam she made a quantum realm device and the Stature suit herself? What? (Also after watching the movie I think I prefer Emma Fuhrmann as Cassie) - Peyton Reed can't do math and we all (us and MCU) suffer.

Ah, that could be as well. Can't wait to get a detailed screen capture of the date, but I think the 29th makes sense. Thanks so much for watching the vid and sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it!

Disregarding what Peyton Reed said in the interviews, maybe 18 year old Cassie said she was 6 because Scott and Hope returned to a different timeline where the attack happened earlier?

They would have returned to a different timeline if they went through a time vortex. Which they didn't.

Yeah, it would be wild if Peyton actually had a plan in mind with his comment. But I suspect he just messed up and is trying to cover his mistake. I mean AM&TW actually has Scott saying she's 10 and then Peyton says she's 9. He didn't even read the earlier scripts he directed. Ugh. Oh well, still enjoyed the movie. Kang was amazing! Thanks so much for watching the vid and leaving your feedback. Really appreciate it!

Yeah, you have to wonder if there is a greater meaning behind the age error. Sadly, I suspect it isn't the case, but it could be. Would be quite a twist if so.

Ikr? That seems crazy to me, but at least I guess the numbers were close. Still, I think AM 1 is much better than AM&TW overall.

I agree, T:TDW only suffered due to it's villain being totally meh. Otherwise, the movie is fantastic. I like it alot better than many fans do. TBH, I just mentioned it as I know alot of people rank it low and so it was strange to see QM be a full 20 points lower on its RT score.

@@AbitofEverything4U In another comment, I mentioned the visuals & the believability of what people are watching. Thor: The Dark World took us to Asgard & made you feel like “this looks real”. Despite people thinking the film is bad, people don’t criticize the visuals or how the film was presented pther than maybe the Accursed & Dark Elves costumes even though I thought they looked fine.
