In this episode Coach Alina and Coach Daniel answer a question from Ryan who is wondering what to do apart from reassuring oneself the it's safe to be awake when it takes a long time to fall asleep.
Andrea asks about how insomnia can change how we approach other problems in life. Rowdy wonders about the likelihood of SFi for a 19 year old and Thanmayi has hypnic awareness. Finally Bhaswat is peeing a lot despite having been to a urologist who found nothing wrong.

Daniel, I was diagnosed with intractable chronic insomnia. I can't fall asleep till 5 or 6 am only to be awakened 40mins later to get ready for work. I suffer with dysfunctional sleep latency and atypical dysfunctional sleep drive...basically, I don't have it. I am very ill, chronically fatigued, and have crushing headaches 7 days a week from not sleeping at night. I really enjoy your videos BUT disagree when I hear your guests say that insomnia does not cause physical illness...it does. I'm proof of it! My life has been destroyed by chronic insomnia!

Just by watching this video last night, I was able to overcome the panic of catching myself falling asleep. But then when I woke up, another thing came in to take its place, I started focusing on every time I blink (I have OCD as well.) Then I forgot about that, which is good, but now I'm afraid when I try to go to sleep I keep seeing the word "BLINKING" in white letters and I'm so worried that will be enough to keep me from falling asleep. It's like once I beat one thing, another one hurries up and jumps in. Any tips on not letting a random word popping up in my head stop me from falling asleep? It's like one mind game to the next. ☹️ Just allow it, observe it, but don't react? Thanks in advance. I appreciate this channel so much. Highly-anxious and hyperaware (breathing, swallowing, blinking, etc.) The nighttime ones are the worst.

So I have newly developed some sleep problems. Is the general idea to pay them little attention and when I'm awake at night just to do something I enjoy, to teach my brain that I'm safe? Thank you 😊

@@thesleepcoachschool8192 so, after several nights of no sleep, last night I settled in for the night with a good book and said to my brain, okay, so let's enjoy a night of reading together, fully accepting another night of no sleep. Guess, what, I was out like a light and slept for 8 hours! This was only possible because of the information you have provided - thank you!!!!!!!! 😊

When I'm drifting into sleep, usually in the morning when I want to fall back asleep. Or on a car ride home from work in a car pool. I close my eyes and then I start thinking random things. In my mind I feel like I'm awake. But then I start acting out the thought. I'll nod yes if I'm speaking with someone. Or open my mouth if I'm thinking about like ice cream Or something like that. And then I realizeall of a sudden that I'm physically moving. And then I "wake up". What is this?? And why?

Regarding that comment that someone used to fall asleep when just thinking random things, that's my experience too. I know we can't control sleep, but for ex. if i'm worrying about something in bed, I for sure won't fall asleep, but if I think something neutral or nice, there's a big chance I'm going to fall asleep, so in a way we do have control and then I'm more likely to try to think nice thoughts. What do you think?
@thesleepcoachschool8192
@thesleepcoachschool8192 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, I think this is true that when we are in a neutral mindspace, sleep happens easily. But, often we can’t decide what to think… like when we are scared!
@itslukadelrey
@itslukadelrey 2 жыл бұрын
@@thesleepcoachschool8192 thanks for the reply! So when we are scared for example, how do we get back to a neutral mindspace? Because when I’m anxious at night, even when I let the thoughts be, they’still kind of in the forefront, and all the focus is on them.
