I will take quality over quantity every day of the week. I sub to these types of channels because I want to see what homesteaders are doing on their homesteads and not just listen to them talk. I think you are taking the right track.

I agree. I'm a newcomer to this channel. It started with the saw milling and progressed from there. I grew up on a dairy farm so I'm very familiar with the time it takes to care for animals and all of the unseen work it takes to do so. I LOVE this channel! One day a week or seven..... I plan to watch them all. Praying for you and God bless.

Trying to be special on the internet is a narcissist's game. Since the beginning. I refused to put a lot of effort into it. No editing. One cut. No fancy microphones and cameras. And it's a good thing, because I've been purged several times.

Perfect! watching 3 videos a week cuts into my "getting things done" time too. I love your videos but with this You Tube pushing content providers into producing more means that I have to delete shows I would normally like to watch just because I haven't got time for it.

Quality of content is significantly more important to the vast majority of KZfaq views than quantity of material. I personally have dropped a couple channels that I was following because they had started to follow KZfaq’s rules and their material went to repetitive garbage, very sad to see. Therefore I for one am grateful that y’all are adjusting to a quality over quantity philosophy. Thank you.

Troy, your videos are excellent and the information you share is worth many thousands of dollars especially in marketing evaluation. Producing the number of videos you currently produce is anything but easy and you are to be commended for the quality of those already produced. Your wife is a sweetheart and we enjoy watching and listening to her meal preparation videos. Your entire family is 4+. You are 5+. Thanks for all your efforts and please do not be discouraged. Many of us love watching you and listening to your words of wisdom that are always spot on. Thanks for everything you do for so many, and thank your wife as well. I only found your Chanel recently, as I was a farm owner for over 20 years, but moved to town to help care for Mother she’s gone, now it’s Dads turn, but he’s 86 doing well, just looking for property again, I found a few contracts pending already. If I was you, do only what works for you, Don’t loose too much of your quality and most productive time anyway, maybe go once a week, if it’s not making you much, there’s patrion, where people can donate so much month for special videos for paying clients, I see lots You-tubers doing that nowadays, like you said your time is money 🙂🙏👍🙂🤪😜😃 Thanks Sharing

Like what you have to say here. In reference to Mother Earth Broadcast: Just meeting your expenses doesn’t include an allowance for your labor. Profit is good and most people invest profit back into their business but fail to pay themselves. Do you know any corporation where the CEO doesn’t get paid? As for working and video content: Check out Red Poppy Ranch for working videos. Red Poppy Ranch voice overs his days work and adds some soul barring moments too. ❤️. I can really see this working for you too.

Heath has a nice pace to his work, videos and narration. He's good at picking projects and completing them pretty fast. The work is number 1, and only during pauses or evening breaks he takes the time to shoot a monologue in the field. While making voice overs his mind wanders through pastures with old stories anyone can relate to.

I'm following a number of homesteader channels, but your content is unique - you are so business-like and competent on the land. Even though you do things so differently to how we would here, I can see the reasons behind that, and I can learn from the things you talk about. I don't need to see projects only when they're completed, though, I'd be fine with an instalment - this week we finished putting the floor in the new loft, this week we picked up firewood, whatever - life is lived in instalments, not completed projects. Can anybody else in the family take over editing your videos while you go on with farm work? Btw, the footage of the sawmill has a ceiling fan flickering in the top of the screen. If you're able to adjust the camera position or angle to cut that out it would be pleasanter viewing.

KZfaq likes more videos a week because they can put more ads on them and get more money , but if one chooses quality over quantity they may be loved by their audience but KZfaq would like someone else to be pushed out more . I'm glad to see you and your family had a great vacation and have arrived back to the homestead safe and sound. That said, I will miss your videos, but your homestead needs to take top priority. I've thoroughly enjoyed your more recent videos on topics NO other homesteaders have even mentioned, but are important to know, such as the mineral rights and such. Some homesteaders seem to get all hung up on their homestead needing to "pay off", and it's great if they can find revenue streams, but the main payoff, IMO, should be the healthier food you're providing your family. You know what is and isn't in it, and that animals were ethically raised and harvested.

Well from my experience the fastest way to fail is lying to yourself.I have 4 acres and I planted it in 100 ft rows of rasberries. They where large and very pretty..First lie I told my self was that every one is going to want some of these.I started a you pick operation. That is when I lost my faith in humans.Yes every one wanted some but when the first trickle of sweat ran down there back they didn't.Same thing happened with all the sweet corn I planted. And I was selling cheap. So I learned my lesson,If you do not have a real good handle on a market for your stuff, then you are going to fail.So morale is be truthful and don't decide something just because of how you feel about it and build up a dreamy Idea .

KZfaq broke their contract with us creators. What loyalty I had is gone. But content created is different now. What KZfaq is carrot and sticking is almost unwatchable and that is by design. They don't want to make America Great Again and that is their own foot in the grave. But what a great opportunity for that next great platform to emerge. Just holding on and entertaining myself now, using KZfaq to document things I don't wish to forget. You will find your new rhythm, just know your not the only one dealing with this changing landscape. I look at it as a grand opportunity coming soon. The hayday of KZfaq is over but what comes next will be worth the birthing pains.

@@RedToolHouse, this video is one reason I need to focus on one main thing, fabrication and mechanical work, along with the steps it takes to get a shop built with not much money. Drawing inspiration from several channels. The only thing holding me back is a safe place to weld. Hard to weld when surrounded by dry grasses and pine needles. Yeah, going to focus my videos on those things instead of the random stuff I do now. Then add in the random video. Less content means more time spent focusing on the core of what I want to do.

I want to have Nigerian Dwarf goats. However, I have limited space so need to really research whether I will be able to do the things needed from proper care of goats, use of products including whether I’m willing to eat male goats that I may not be able to sell and the expense of feeding and buying the beginning stock. Bittersweet to see the 3 video a week format ceasing but its completely understandable. Will a change to once a week format precipitate restoring the intro bit you recently jettisoned?
@RedToolHouse

Thanks for the feedback. I have waffled so much on the intro. Viewer stats show people bail out when I have it but the traditional marketer in me says each video has to be intro'd with some back story. That is a tough one for me.

@@RedToolHouse why do you not group in with the other home steaders who get viewers ( and support and help out and assist one another in a hands on practical way ) UTube doesn't rule all home steaders...there are some folks who just build a chicken coop; go to Alaska and show how they went solar; etc. etc... maybe you just need the community behind you for that UTube feed ?

Hi Troy, I hope that You Tube is now paying you for double adds. Every time they break for an add they play two instead of one. Just thought you would be interested in knowing about the adds.. I'm personally sorry to only be able to see you once a week, but I too understand the time restraints. Your videos are some of the ones I really look forward to seeing...

KZfaq offers advertisers skip-able ads or nonskip-able ads. The costs are different for each. They have made quite a few changes to the ad structure lately.

Hmm, i'm in Europe , and agrocultural land is very expensive here. I want to set up a bamboo farm.this would need to be set up under a foundation , since i cannot own land myself (on wellfare) I have trouble deciding to start small and expand later , or start large.. (note: takes about 4 years before the first bamboo harvest after planting)

You should invent the Homestead Autopilot. It's a sure winner. The commercial almost writes itself: "Endless chores gettin' you down? No time to live the good life? Honey Do list eatin' you alive? Get the Homestead Autopilot 3000! Get back to the free and easy life you moved out here for! Once again find time for the things that make life worthwhile: Hiking Hunting Fishing Day Drinking Naps And making KZfaq videos! All these and more can be yours with the Homestead Autopilot 3000!"

I'm sure you get a lot of feedback, so I don't know that this will be reaffirming in any way, but I have often wondered how you could produce three great videos about homesteading each week and still have time to actually BE a homesteader! Now, I understand that you aren't claiming to be a full-time homesteader, and you declare that in your introduction of each video, but I think you have a passion for these things and actually want to DO more of them, not just talk about them. I can very much empathize with that, because it's how most of us who have an interest in homesteading feel, ourselves. So, if you want to spend more time practicing what you preach, and less time filming and editing videos about stuff you wish you were doing, I totally get that. Here's hoping you are very successful, or at least know when to concede that you've failed. :) Please keep posting videos, because your efforts allow many others to live vicariously through your efforts, and plan for what may some day be.

I far prefer quality over quantity. It really bothers me when channel content stoops to the point of all but clipping toe nails to get out 5 videos per week. Another channel (besides yours) that I enjoy went 'ghost' for about 10 days then posted an update to let subscribers know a few details and apologize for not having any video worthy content. That is far better than 'clipping toenails' and posting it.

If the income from the videos can justify it, perhaps you need to take on some help - either from a family member or an outside source. That could be on the projects themselves or the video editing which I realize is time consuming. I agree completely that sacrificing quality for quantity isn’t an answer but I look at my own viewing habits on your type of KZfaq channel and admit I do prefer those with more frequent videos. I don’t give up on those that drop off to one a week but I have quit looking for those channels when their output dropped below that point. Good luck with your choice. I’m sure you will give it due deliberation.

I would much rather have 1 quality topic covered in detail! Im looking forward to the next project video! Individuals can use the age old 'word of mouth' method to help promote your channel, and you dont need to rely so much on the advertising machines like KZfaq to push of volumes of endless rambling and revolting amounts of pet footage... Here is to some pee in everyones Cherio's to stat the day!

This video was "what we do on our hiatus", "homesteading is less likely to fail with a business plan", "My projects on the back burner", "the farmer market model", "goals and recognizing progress or failure". Twenty minutes is too long for one topic, four minutes might be too short, 10 minutes was supposedly optimal for KZfaq. A video can be one topic and only be part 1. This video could have been easily two 10 minutes video's and this video could have been five 10 minutes video's. 19 minutes is less quality than 10 minutes.

I am going to test this for a couple weeks and see how it works. I think there will be times that I can easily create 2 or 3 videos out a project if I have time to work on the project. That may allow me to publish more on one week. I am committed at this point to do at least one per week. Thanks for the feedback!
