WHEN is the best time to behead succulents

Not only is it important to 'behead' succulents just so, the timing can also matter a great deal. This applies to any succulent propagation as well.
The question of when should always be considered and the success of getting the cutting rooted and the roots-stock producing new offsets may depend on it.
In this video i'll discuss why the timing can matter and how it can influence new growth.

Slight sidebar…do you ever use a root growing spray/medium. I see it a lot on some of the Asian growers reels , it looks like they get high growth from it. Thanks 🙏

I'm going to make a video about rooting hormone next but, personally, i don't. Succulents grow super well without it here and it wouldn't make much of a difference. There are some exceptions though and i'll talk about them in the video :)

Thank you Kat for the video ,time and efforts 🙏 I am just hoping if you know a sure shot method to get the head to root quicker ,like the application of rooting hormone when calloused. Or just let nature do her job? The reason to this question is quicker rooting of the Succulent head the more the chance of survival without dropping leaves and dying eventually This is just my point of view please excuse my ignorance coz this is what I do for my foliage buddies 😅

I'm making a video about it next. I don't bother with rooting hormone as it won't make much difference for me personally. Succulents grow and root so well here that it would just be a waste of money. But i will talk about when and how you may want to use it in the video :)

I ordered a 2" live pot of an Aeonium Sunburst... it's roughly the size of a US Quarter. We don't really have winter frost or freezing Temps here, however, summer is extremely hot here. Which we will be going into very soon... I'm unsure if it will survive now. It's outdoor, morning sun mostly shade. Should I be worried?

You sound like me in the Phoenix metro area. Because of how very dry and the excessive heat here and the lack of cool down here, I’d keep a shade over it at 50% and ensure it gets watered early in the morning or as late in the evening as possible. Do not over saturate and make sure you don’t get water on the leaves. Keep an eye on their leaves to know when to water, as it can and will evaporate very fast If it’s in a pot, make sure it’s a light color pot, as the dark colors will absorb a lot of the heat and can bake the roots/plant. Check your plant to see if it will go dormant and water accordingly to that. The heat in my area is ridiculously high and very little cool down due to being in the city and surrounded by asphalt, cement and the heat dome which doesn’t allow for a cool down as those out in a more natural desert. At the time of this comment, it’s only spring and I’m soaking my succulents in terracotta pots with coconut coir 4 times a week and they’re still showing signs of not enough water

That sounds like our climate 🙂 You should be fine, Sunburst is a tough plant and should make it through just fine, even that small. The comments below summarize it well- keeping it out of the very hot sun will help greatly (morning sun & mostly shade is good) and if it's dry, don't be afraid to water it but let the potting mix dry out between waterings. 🙂
