This week did not go as planned. It's been raining a ton, and on the dry moments we have been working on our digger. After replacing several parts it is still not starting though...

New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our toddler Puck and baby Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

Lol Don't you love it?... When there is no rain? We pray for it, we look for it, wait on it and we wonder about it. Then it finally comes and it's always so damned inconvenient! Try to keep a sense of humor about all things....and remember that, this too shall pass. There is a lesson in this (I'm sure) that will be of benefit to you later. A cheap battery tester is a must. Especially out in the country. I know, I know..."thanx for the after thought"😝. Right? Best of luck and our prayers are still with you and yours. Thanks, for another delightful, decompressive Sunday Morning!

Great video Lea. Beau already knows he's a KZfaq sensation. An adorable handful. So good to hear Puck is loving school. You and Maarten are great parents. The part of the video with Beau and Maarten walking up the track, Beau reaching for his hand was really touching. Ouch re the digger. I'm so glad you have a good friend who is an mechanic you trust and believe in. Loved your little text overlay comments throughout the video. Well done. I'm off to add a little cheer to your coffee fund. It's not much, but everything helps, right? Take good care of your precious little family. Yes Portugal channels have become hot property on KZfaq. REMEMBER - to stay true to who you are, be authentic, let your own light shine in this space - there is enough room for all of you on here. Don't let that knock you off course. Hugs and love from Perth, Australia.

Starting a fire with a pine cone. Yes. I love it. Our house in northern Portugal has a pellet heater, and I’m not fond of it. I much prefer a real wood stove. I’m hoping to replace the pellet stove with a wood stove, but maybe it’s not practical.

Lea sorry about the digger issue and the rain stopping you from harvesting the olives. Sometimes things do come in 3’s. Tomorrow is another day. I’m saying this for myself as well. I just found out I have a foundation issue in my house and the lowest quote I was given to repair is 78,000 dollars. I don’t have 78,000 dollars. I have never cried so much in my life. But I have to remind myself that there are people who have more problems than me so I need to keep that in perspective. I keep thinking of parents who used to have a saying when things went wrong, ‘This too shall pass’. So we will just have to have a positive outlook that things will get better. See you next video.

Funnily enough, as I was listening to the digger turn over I thought "compression problem, it´s turning over too easily for a diesel". If it´s just a blown top gasket it´s not a big deal.

The starting sound sounded like it is starved of fuel, even though you replaced the fuel lines... is there a fuel pump & is that working? I don't know but that would be worth checking. Also, if air is somehow getting into the fuel delivery system, that can also starve it of fuel. If all of that is good, then check the choke. Try starter fluid. Key idea here is getting fuel to ignite.

Yes, starter spray was my idea as well. That will always ignite. And run for a few seconds at least.
@ourportuguesehomestead

We tried starter fluid, but that didn’t work. Might be that there is still air in the system, we’ll try a hand pump first before taking it apart more.

@@ourportuguesehomestead I know it must be annoying to hear the comments, especially since we don't know how much has been tried to do. I don't even know if the engine is diesel, but when dismantling the parts, the same problem must happen as when the engine runs out of fuel and air enters... I know about this problem but as I am a woman, I didn't pay attention how was done the purge of the air and, in Portuguese, perhaps I could explain it better but I've been looking for something in English similar to what I thought it was done, a situation I saw at least 10 years ago so, forgive me, if my comment it's too stupid ;) "how to start a diesel AFTER it ran out of fuel" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/edyIabekspu-cqs.html
@nvdb-77
@nvdb-77 Жыл бұрын
If it is a diesel engine, but you probably know this, all the air needs to be out of the fuel lines. Try loosening the metal fuel lines (nuts) on top of the engine, then start the engine (on the starter) until fuel comes out. (then stop starting the engine) Then tighten the nuts on the fuel lines again, and done. Air in the fuel lines is one of the main reasons a diesel engine will not start.

I noticed white smoke coming out the exhaust when you was cranking the motor over .This is vaporised fuel so you have fuel . The sound it's making as you crank it over sounds like lack of compression,ie worn piston rings . I would also check the pump timing marks to see if it's correct .It's strange it was working fine one minute and not the next .

You may need to install a cheap Facet style 12VDC fuel pump in the fuel line just after the fuel filters to draw a solid stream of fuel through the filter from the tank...and then pressure squirt it into the injection pump...and up to the injectors. This allows you to bleed all the air out of the entire system without running down the starter or requiring the engine to be turning over at all... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eqqVeZyfv7jOnIk.html 27:00 minutes
