Schrader that's when lava meets water. If you put water on lava it makes Obsideon but when you put lava on water it makes cobblestone......I think..... Its either that or its the other way around or vise versa.
@Schradermusic
@Schradermusic 6 жыл бұрын
It's not that simple. It depends if the lava block is still (source block) or flowing. If you pour water on FLOWING lava, it makes cobblestone. If you pour water on STILL lava, it makes Obsidian. If you pour lava on water, no matter if still or flowing, it always makes cobblestone. Check the game (or Minecraft wiki) if you don't believe me.

This is great. It helps us better understand that transition phase between the rock being magma and it becoming lava. Because this normally happens in the vent and for obvious reasons is too dangerous in most cases to get observe at close quarters, experiments like this in a somewhat controlled environment are very useful for understanding what is happening.

EVAN CROCKETT SLATER that’s a lie. And obsidian cannot be formed unless under extreme pressure from the earths surface while being formed. Obsidian is a form similar to glass. Cobblestone can be carved into cubes, but in its natural just built state it is not a cube. Most of Minecrafts logic makes 0 sense. Cobblestone isn’t a cube and obsidian is formed under the earths surface near volcanoes.

Heat capacity of liquid nitrogen is pathetic compared to basalt's. You'd need LOTS of nitrogen to cool down a lava flow. It's perfectly useless compared to water.
@AtlasReburdened
@AtlasReburdened 6 жыл бұрын
Well, there's a slight difference in the amount of dissolved gases in lava as what is vented in nature is coming directly out of a gas rich, high pressure environment and can make much of its journey to the water fairly well encased and shielded within its native gases whereas I imagine the furnace is vented to avoid pressure problems and significantly more trapped gases are allowed to escape. I suspect that might result in non-negligible differences in results between the "lab" and field, but I'm hardly a geologist en even the loosest sense of the word, so there's that.

Theres a couple of locations where that sort of explosion has occurred in Oregon near Fort Rock called Hole in the Ground. It's an impressive blast crater caused by groundwater reaching Magma.The street view in google maps will let you see just how big that kind of blast can be. The area is scattered with house sized boulders blown from the crust.

Dear National Geographic, why are you making your documentaries more like very shitty drama movies where you try to fill time with boring plot and try to create some fake tension. I've seen that some time ago, Discovery Channel did it first with it's programs, that's why I don't watch it anymore, it's all cheap, fake drama instead of knowledge being displayed in an amazing manner. I know it sells well, because it's easily digestible (baby food level actually), but I don't think that's what a scientific channel is supposed to do. You're supposed to make people smarter and try to convince them that science is the way to go and they should not only try to understand it but give it a go themselves at looking at the world in a scientific way. What you're doing is the opposite. Scare people away from thinking about nature and only come in for some cheap thrills when they have nothing else to watch on TV.
