I don't get the rage or the sense of entitlement. Employees can't tell if someone is the most or least honest person in the world by just looking at them. RECEIPTS EXIST for an OBVIOUS reason -- to PROVE purchase was made. Her going bonkers over that when she HAD the receipt is pure insanity. Is she confusing that with failure to identify when there's no reasonable suspicion of a crime? They think she STOLE the stuf -- that's reasonable suspicion right there.

In the case of the last woman, the video evidence showed she had paid and went past a register on one end of the wide store, then she turned the cart around and went back into the store, walked until she was as far as possible from the register she paid at, and then she dramatically pushed her cart past that clerk without paying or responding to the concerned store employees. In other words, she drummed up the controversy and basically tricked the employees into thinking she had stolen in a very brazen way. It looked like she was trying to generate a law suit so she could easily win a big payday. She was tired of waiting for actual racism. Her actions appeared to be so intentional about misleading the store that the judge agreed any reasonable person would think she was stealing and decided to dismiss her case with prejudice.

Knowing that it was entirely intentional on her part is infuriating. This was never about her own pride, racial profiling, or messed up store policy; it was a scam attempt, and an idiotic one at that. This is effectively ‘slip and fall by cop’, instead of faking an injury in the store and suing them, she thought if I antagonize a cop into tazing, hitting or shooting me, I can sue the city/county/municipality. 🤬

My former elderly neighbor received shipments of medicine and catheters from her pharmacist. She was immobile for 3 years and suffered without medicine. These fully-fledged pieces of garbage would steal her packages and then probably toss them in the garbage when it wasn't something they could use or sell. Then, re-ordering the medicine and equipment was a nightmare. Pharmacies have to be VERY, VERY careful about people ordering the same medicine twice in a single week. She suffered for about two years from these human pieces of trash. So all the medicine was re-delivered to MY address and we used a lockable drop box for her medicine. If I ever got my hands on one of these putrid wastes of oxygen, I would definitely spend time in jail...and I'd feel good about it. I would posit the cop had something to do with it too. She offered to clear her name by going back into the store. The cop refused, stubbornly wanting it his way and only his way. Yes, it would have also been the easy way, but she obviously had something to prove and being put on the spot, made a big show of it.
@cjtheslumpgod24564 ай бұрын
@@conscientiousobserver8772”His way” was the most reasonable and easiest way because all she needed to do was SHOW THE RECIPT. The officer here was extremely patient and nice and I’m sure he would’ve just looked at it for a second and sent her on her way. There was no need to return to the store for anything when you can grab the receipt and verify in literally 5 seconds.
@SimonASNG4 ай бұрын
More than a simple case of refusing to show her receipt (by law she doesn't have to help with the investigation while she is detained although most people do), the video footage showed the woman had first created the controversy by paying at a register on one end of the store and then quietly going back into the store with her groceries, walking to the far end of the store and the loudly leaving in a way that forced the store employees to notice she was leaving without paying. On the surveillance video, it looked like she was trying to get herself arrested so she could sue the store or police or both at the end of the game. Her actions appeared so intentional that the judge dismissed the case with prejudice.

The last woman is just ridiculous. I've bought back pills at Walmart dozens of times. They're almost $40 per bottle and the cashier almost always forgets to deactivate the anti-theft device so I set off the alarm when I leave the store almost every time. I get stopped by security every time I trip the alarm. I pull out the bottle of pills, show them my receipt, they deactivate the device and I leave the store with the items I've purchased. I'm a mid-50s white woman and it doesn't matter to me or the security what colour my skin is. It's their job to protect the store, not to protect the feelings of the shoppers. I could get upset. I could refuse to show them my receipt. I could blame the store for forgetting to deactivate the device. I don't because it's a simple misunderstanding. Their machines are saying I didn't pay for something. The colour of my skin makes no difference. If I refuse to comply, I would end up in cuffs in the back of a cop car. It's just common sense which is sorely lacking in far too many people these days.
@deathbycheese8504 ай бұрын
You have to admit though, that people of colour aren't treated the same by police. The security guard might not care, but all it would take is some nosey parker to whip out their phone, and ring the police. Then it's a different story altogether.
@Exxtol14 ай бұрын
What color is your skin? The police most definitely profile blacks and latinos in my city. Don't be so naive. Racial bias is insidious and often subconscious. That said she should've just handed him the receipt, but honestly as a black person that has been profiled by security at my job (black guy no less), in stores (followed multiple times), in Spain, in Argentina, & in the Dominican Republic, I can understand her becoming indignant after being asked for a receipt even though she paid.

@@Exxtol1I’m black and in a city. Never ever been profiled or targeted but I’m not trash like some of you!
@xdropperzonline99784 ай бұрын
@@Exxtol1 There is a distinct difference between "profiling" and and officer making contact with a possible suspect based on the description given by store employees as in this video. People also fail to understand that if a police officer patrols in an area that is 70-80% black residents, then the VAST majority of their citizen contacts are going to be with people that are black. And in regards to your statement of it being understandable that she'd become indignant - any reasonable person that paid for items, who the store then questions whether or not they paid for them because they didn't see them do it, would simply show their receipt showing that they did. It's the overarching victim mentality that most people in society want to have that cause situations to turn out like this. Every person in this situation would have the same two options - be argumentative and earn yourself a trip to jail, or just simply be a reasonable person and show your receipt (like this supposedly racist police officer was doing while he was literally begging her to just show it to him so he could leave her alone and they could both go on their way).

It looked like she was trying to generate a lawsuit so she could easily win a big payday. She was tired of waiting for actual racism. Her actions appeared to be so intentionally misleading the store that the judge agreed any reasonable person would think she was stealing and decided to dismiss her case with prejudice.

Last week, while walking around in the Best Buy store in Manhattan, I picked up a $9 earbud and then continued browsing. Minutes later, I was approached by a security guard who asked whether I had paid for the item. For a moment, I thought about feigning outrage, etc., since I was still inside the store, but good sense prevailed, I offered to hand it to him until I was ready to pay or leave. I eventually purchased another item, paid for both, showed my receipt to the same security guard by the exit, and took the subway home. Couple decades ago, when I was in my late teens, I might have chosen an alternate, unnecessarily confrontational route. Only reason I am sharing this anecdote because I am proud of how much I have matured. :)
