Hey Jason and Lorraine. You might consider getting and raising Orloff chickens. They don't lay much during the summer when other varieties are pumping them out, but go into egg production when it gets cold and dark early. I like having a few Russian varieties in my flock as well. I really don't like using artificial light to keep regular chickens laying.

Hi, my concern is the adhesive used in the cardboard. When it breaks down, the chemicals leach into the soil. I have not done the research yet. Many people use card board in many garden applications. Thank you for the video. Much success to you all.

If you want to find the level of water in the tank attach a piece of clear hose to the outlet and hold it up at the top outside of the tank and it will find the natural level. You will then know how much is in the tank. From Neil in the UK.

This looks like Bermuda grass growing in the beet bed. I am in N TX and you can't kill it. At all! No amount of cardboard will kill this. I recommend that you remove the dirt. then put 3 layers of weed fabric under it and then replace the dirt with completely new dirt.

Roof area square footage X amount of rain in inches X .623 = the amount of collected rainwater. I figure out how much each roof collects with 1” and then it’s easier to keep track. Also just knock on the tank - you can tell where the water level is by sound.
@gypsyheartsouls
@gypsyheartsouls 9 ай бұрын
A Way To tell what level the water is at in your tank is: "knock, knock" your knuckles on the side of the tank, starting at the bottom. Listen carefully, knocking a little higher each time. You should be able to tell when you are past the waterline, as the sound will change to a hollow and echoing sound, compared to the flatter sound that it makes when you knock under the water level. (Also, depending on the air temperature, sometimes after a cold night, or in the heat of the day, the side of the tank feels colder/hotter, when you put your palm on it, below and above the waterline). 💜💙💚💫

No amount of cardboard will eliminate that Bermuda grass! Maybe if you put down cement under the beds it would stop it from growing up from the bottom. I have dug sweet potatoes that the pointed end of the rhizome has grown straight through the huge potato!!

ABOUT THE EGGS. I live in Iowa and have about 30 chickens. I am still getting about 15 eggs a day. This is partially due to the fact that I have 3 roosters and for sure about 7 older girls (at least 3 years old). So, what I am saying is I don’t think it is the season of fall that is slowing your egg production so much. I do not have any special lights or set up for my chickens. Just wanted to share that maybe look into other reasons for the slow down of eggs.

When you train animals to a bucket every time they get out, this encourages them to do it again so that they can get fed again! Permissive parenting with no consequences for being BAD! They have tiny feet and when the soil is dry there’s not enough conductivity and they don’t get zapped. You should have a two foot high woven wire 4x4 openings fence with a single metal hot wire along the top and a stand-off wire along the bottom. Fencing is a lot more complicated than what you’re led to believe. Winter is the same situation in regards to conductivity as dry season. Raising cattle is simple comparatively. They have big feet and get zapped more easily. We used two hot wires and if trained properly before releasing them into the pasture, we had few issues. Fallen trees/limbs were the biggest problem, especially during wind storms.

I enjoy beet tops as much as the beet boiled they taste similar to swiss chard , i plant thick rows and then thin them out depending on variety some geve more tops than others i keep harvesting outer leaves as they grow and keep soil loose and moist so beets grow bigger. Great job on rain collection as well.

I always cover my raised beds with tarps for the winter and it makes the best soil! Of course you need to amend every year as well. As far as your well goes, as you improve your land and add swales, you might raise the water level underground and help your well perform better. That would be interesting to see. 🤔
